When it hits you again on a random Monday morning that Robotnik looked his own death in the eye like, yeah okay cool, no loss. The whole planet? Thankless place anyway, fuck it. But the second he realized that Stone's life is threatened? i think what's so compelling about crab era stobotnik to me is they're presumably closer than they've ever been before but there's still this distance. they won't put a word to it, not friendship, not love, but they'll dance and laugh and watch tv until they fall asleep on the couch. they'll think i missed you, it was hell without you, i love you, and never say a word of it. robotnik can't conceive of stone's affection as being anything but sycophantic and stone can't conceive of his love ever being mutual. so they go on with their lives entangled and this invisible, unspoken, completely manufactured wall between them that they can't break.

we know wade went to the mean bean possibly on a regular basis but can you imagine if the wachowskis did too. as far as they're aware this is just a completely normal new barista who acquired this old coffee shop in a completely legal manner. tom comes home one evening after work and hes like. maddie. i think that new barista has a crush on robotnik. and shes like. wh. what. the guy who tried to fucking kill us? what makes you think that?? and he shows her a photo of stone's latest coffee drawing (robotnik, grinning madly, hearts around him) and she's like. ohhhhhh. and never goes back again. tom and wade keep going though. the coffee is just too damn good and well the barista's so polite :-) meanwhile stone's trying to kill them with his mind

i should write more short/silly things... my longer stuff takes me A While so posting it feels quite vulnerable but i used to write these short fics in a morning or an afternoon just to post them here and that was so much fun. i should do that. playing touys

robotnik and stone are both characters who can't conceive of being wanted... to me... i think during the crab era they could admit to needing each other. they might even believe each other when they say it. even if robotnik wonders a bit at what stone could possibly need from a man whose given up on ruling the world (waiting for him to snap out of it, he reasons, nothing else)

but there's a difference between "i need you, you're useful to me, there's something you can give me" and "i want you around, unconditionally, even if we never do anything big or ambitious, even if we just sit around and read together in bed"

i don't think either of them have ever had the latter. they've spent their whole lives being tolerated just because they're useful. but the thing is they just... want each other around. that's it. i don't think they realised it's mutual until the ark explosion, but i like to think they know by now. how fucking lovely to have that for the first time, however briefly.

Like I feel like it was something that I knew subconsciously but seeing it spelt out has completely obliterated me.

The idea that everyone around ran off to spend their last possible moments (as far as they knew anyway) with their loved ones before being wiped out by a weapon of mass destruction.

Meanwhile Stone stays in the street, in front of the screens because that’s where his loved one is. He spends what could possibly be his last moments alone on the streets of Piccadilly Circus because where else can he go?
