the way some people talk about hs is fucking wild. people act like act 6 killed and pissed on their grandma. people act like their favorite character not getting the ending they hoped for should be a criminal offense with the death penalty. people act like the retcon was a more nonsensical plot beat than the highlander 2 aliens reveal. get real.

i will say though that although i think the article is in extremely bad faith and should be taken with a heaping pile of salt, i do think that bringing up past bad blood during the negotiations of a new deal at all was a poor tactical choice. regardless of whether they have the Right to ask for lies to be disavowed or harm to be apologized for, it does a few very negative things without really any positives:

brings the bad blood back to the table. just sets it square in the middle of the discussions and makes it impossible to treat as water under the bridge.

if it had gone through, rather than taking advantage of the internet's short attention span and letting the hiveswap situation fade into obscurity, it would have brought eyes directly back onto it. this would lead new people to look into it and find the same information everyone else did.

also if it had gone through, there would have immediately been theories that it was coerced. which would be way worse than letting it stand.

and the positives would be

some people would feel vindicated

a small subsect of people reading the new statement may vaguely change their minds, maybe? if the theories about it being coerced don't get to those people first?

it feels good to set the record straight, but that often doesn't really sway people's minds. so i think trying to get that was a poor choice and should not have been attempted. and the thing about point #1 is that it just increases the chances of everything blowing up the way they ended up blowing up.

BUT that article smells so bad, i'm not even entirely convinced that this looks the way it seems to look, yknow?

when reading an article, it may be salient to think to yourself "what is the language in this trying to do? why are long chunks of its extensive length spent hammering in over and over that the author is patient, reasonable, and righteous? and that the subject of the article is a domestic abuser that is running a cult? why is so much if the bulk of the text made up of metaphor and speculation on the motives of the evil cult leader and their minions? why are so many of the screenshots made up of mostly the author ranting about their feelings? wait, why are the screenshots censored of private information by *editing the text* instead of covering them up? oh, they're not screenshots? they're html recreations? that are literally visibly edited? is the main claim of the article, in its scare-mongering headline, even true?" like just stop and think about that while you read. that's my statement
