Your skin is a blank canvas
Punctuated with a few moles
And a sparse hairs
But as the night goes on
Your back bears streaks of red from fingernails
And the pallor of your skin
Is lost as blood rushes to the surface
Painting my masterpiece on you

I watched the hate grow inside you
Small at first
Until suddenly it expanded rapidly
In all directions
Curling around your organs
Until it was as encompassing as veins
And as deadly as cancer

I want to know what you would feel like
Inside of me
Not just because of the way
That you make my stomach flip
But because I want to know you
Better than before
And fucking is more honest
Than the courtship dance
And well constructed desirable forms
We create for ourselves

When I first became aware that the colour
Of my brothers skin
It was not because I saw it
But because they pointed it out to me
They didn't see how we could be the same
Because our colour didn't match
The chasm was opened then
I found myself on one side
While my brother was on the other
Pigeonholed before given a chance
Told he was lazy and predestined
For any failure that occurred
While any failure that occurred by my hand
Was a whim of adolescence
Or a test for me to learn from
An exception an not a rule
All the while the refrain played
That racism is a prejudice of the past
So what I would like explained
Is why I am treated differently
When all that separates us
Is the womb we grew from
If racism is not alive and well

You are maddening
You are intoxicating
I think of you when awake
And when I lie down at night
Ready to take respite from my thoughts
You pull me into my dreams
Whirling me around
With gravity defeated
You tease me with pleasures
That melt away with the night
The morning sun leaving me cold
And awake without you once more

The things that define me are not
What you use to define me
You ask if my tattoos hold the password
To my soul rather than merely
Ink upon my skin
You theorise that the ring in my nose
Tells of a need to rebel
You see the top layer and no more
But that is enough for you to know me
And you correct me when I stray to far
In trying to tell you what I think
Might define me

You talk about terrorists
And how they are in the wrong
That their actions are born of hate
And religious fevour
You site the Qu'ran as though you've read it
And you understand the passions
Of an entire religion
Because of a book open to translation
You call them sand-niggers
Say they smell
That we should nuke their countries
That we will never stand down
We will never be afraid of their act
Of insolence in the face
Of the great British power
Which the savages can't question
Because there is one culture
One way of living
That is right
And it is British
And anything else is wrong and evil
And will we kill them and call it justice
And they will kill us and we will call it terrorism
And we will continue to condemn the different among us
Defining their actions by our hypocritical acts before them

We took photos at every moment
Smiling or screwing up our faces
Kissing boldly on camera
Showing the world
We were happy
We were together
We were love
Years after that love faded
The pictures curl
And gather dust

Words seem to capture how I feel
At first as I try to express the longing
The lust and the plethora of emotions
I receive at your hands
Multicoloured and intrinsically linked
Expressions become disjointed
Turning to black and white characters
Holding nothing of the electricity
I feel between us

The excitement dominated at first
Every touch made my stomach flip
And my loins burn
Contact was electric
And I could think of nothing else
Alone at night
The moment of truth came
When you sought me out
The erotic excitement turned to nervous energy
And doubts about the change
That can be made my two lips touching
Two bodies fucking
Came into play

Coffee, cigarettes, and an Amnesty shirt
Define you, and define me
Fallen into a predictable trap
Of middle-class white student
Love story
Angst, late nights, sweating rooms
And longing broken hearts

You've intoxicated me
With your scent
Becoming more familiar than air
Awakening something animalistic
Somewhere deep within me

Seeing you sends my internal organs
Flipping backwards
As though they don't know
That its cliche

Today was your birthday
You should have been seventeen
I can picture you
Surrounded by love and light
Fictitious though it is
For you will never know
The toll of time on your features
The kiss on your wedding day
The blooming of life in your belly
Even the heat of the candles
On your sixteenth birthday cake
It was all more than you had time for
You remain fifteen eternally
But this remains your day
And we who still remain
Picture you happy and full of life

All the best lines
Turn into cliches
Manipulated from original meanings
Perverted for mass consumption
Depriving them of their original beauty
And me of any way to convey
My innermost workings to you

I used to think
That jealously
Was a sign of
A love so deep
That to share
Would cut me
To my soul
Now I know
That I would
Share you with
A million others
If it meant
I could have
You just once
Because my love
For you goes
So deep that
It is intrinsic
And jealousy is
Nothing compared to
Living without you

You said you liked
The way my skin
Veils my veins
That the bones
Which jut from
Beneath show my
Delicacy and feminity
You like my
Small stature for
Much the same
Reason that it
Makes you feel
Big and strong
Only achievable through
My perceived frailty
But despite my
Appearance I am
Far stronger than
You will ever
Be you asshole
