When I saw the scene in the last episode when Johan suddenly sits up out of bed, hair disheveled, giving Tenma a really intense but also somewhat groggy stare, all I think was that he looked like he was just rudely awakened and wants to go tf back to bed.

Maybe in a more peaceful AU, that is how he stares at his sister or his alarm clock when he's woken up for class.

And then that had me thinking about Nina and how she probably would look just as if not more murderous, so I drew her too.

 Minutes later, she was in her bedroom, with a collection of haute couture dresses over her bed, wondering how to seduce a monster.

 Johann expected innocence; she was certain. Pastel colors, maybe. And there they were, pink and yellow and soft and girly. Predictable and comfortable, but ultimately underwhelming.

 She was looking for a weapon. And an armor.

 And there it was, quietly calling her. A floor-length dress of red silk with a vintage design: minimalist in the front and a V cut on the back down to the waist. The embodiment of the femme fatale she wished to become.

 She picked it up, holding it in front of her as she assessed the softness of the fabric, its deadliness. The dress almost fell from her hands as he suddenly knocked on the door, opening it the bare minimum for her to hear him.

 "I'm going out now. You still have twenty minutes. Meet me by the building's main entrance when you are ready."

 "Y-yes..." Her attention on herself, the mirror, wondering if it was too much, or even enough.

 Not the dress, but herself.

 Was she able to match his charm, charisma... force? It was there, within her, but could it resurface now... by sheer will? Or did she need yet another monster to awaken it?

 She looked back at the door that he had left slightly open as the apartment was now empty.

 Was that his plan all along? Or simply an extremely sophisticated maneuver to make her forget Kinderheim 511?

 She shook her head, and with it the paranoia.

 She had a mission, so focus on it.

tw abuse, parentification

i think johan was also parentified or at least adultified when in relation or in juxtaposition to nina but no one talks about it. whats interesting is that the trope of “elder sibling parentification” is typically relegated towards elder female children and their assumed responsibility as stewards for their younger siblings.

Johan/ Nina’s relationship I think btw, is more akin to a “overbearing father-(or mother, since Johan identifies with his mom) daughter that crosses pseudo romantic territory” dynamic than a proper sibling relationship.

I’d say the core of it is Johan’s extreme codependency and inability to see Nina (or himself) as a separate person, which dehumanizes both of them. Nina actually does fight to see herself as Nina, not just as Johan’s other half, which makes the dynamic even more warped. Johan ends up acting less like a sibling and more like an overbearing parent figure, someone who wants to absorb her rather than relate to her.

I think Johan and Nina's (canon) dynamic is absolutely incestuous, but not in the direction of incestuous sexual abuse/grooming to which the term "incest" is connotative of. Johan is an emotional incester, and Nina is the "muse" for him to project on.
