#Repost @nytimes (@get_repost) ・・・ Ready or not, Florida found itself face to face with Hurricane Irma’s galloping winds and rains today, as evacuees and holdouts alike marked uneasy time in homes and shelters. After tearing through the Florida Keys and making landfall along the state’s southwest coast, #HurricaneIrma crawled up the middle of Florida tonight, slowly spinning toward the Tampa region. The storm, which was downgraded to a Category 2 #hurricane, continued to lose strength as it pushed inland, but its reach extended from South Florida to Jacksonville. Across the state, power failures sprawled by the hour. There was no TV to keep many residents updated, with only the remaining battery on their cellphones keeping them in touch with the world. The photographer Johnny Milano (@grief) took this photo earlier today in Jacksonville Beach before Irma was set to arrive. Visit the link in our profile to get the latest updates on the storm.
