Derek was conceived after 3 rounds of IVF. My water broke at 25+2 and he was born at 30+5. He was diagnosed with subglottic stenosis but otherwise thriving. This is my blog on being his mom!

Derek is 2! Some photos from last week. In other news--I just put myself back on metformin. To potentially try to help me get pregnant again. I'm not going to do another IVF round for at least a few months, but this is a (very) small step towards a second.

Anyone have a Montessori room?
We are going to switch Derek to his “big boy” room in the next couple months per suggestion of our OT. That way when he gets up in the middle of the night one of us goes to him rather than bring him in our room. We are probably going to do a floor bed for safety, which led me to research Montessori rooms. How’s it going for those who use it?

Nanny vent
I’m starting to get very annoyed with my nanny and I’m not sure what to do.
She’s been napping in Derek’s room while Derek naps. I guess if I wasn’t here I’d have no idea, but I work from home and it’s weird to be paying her while she sleeps.
Lately, she just seems to be slacking. I changed a diaper this morning and found the bags of the diaper genie to be gone, and diapers thrown in there with no bags! 1. Gross 2. Put a new cartridge in, we have stock piles of them.
I also left a basket of Derek’s clean laundry in front of Derek’s door yesterday, so she’d know to fold while Derek was napping. I went upstairs to put Derek to bed last night and it was moved away from the door but not folded.
She also taught Derek to play a game of throwing books back and forth. We saw her do it and both Mike and I said we’re teaching him not to throw things, especially books, and then I caught her the next day doing it!
This was after she was out all last week because her son was sick.
Daycare has an opening, and we already decided to up his days to 3 days a week, but I’m starting to think maybe we should do 5 days. The reason I don’t want to is because I like our nanny for the most part, Derek loves her, and she’s good to have as a babysitter. And we have PT and OT on the days we don’t have daycare, so it’s just easier if he’s here.

Those with nannies, what do you do about sick days? My nanny will be out at least 3, if not every day this week. We both work from home, but are at our wits end. This happened 3 weeks ago for 2 days and is becoming more and more of an issues. We are thinking of putting him in daycare fulltime, but it seems silly since we’re both home. What do you guys think?
