sigmarsbulls:
Atilla finished his drink, then languidly leaned over to whisper their excuse into their host’s ear. Gorthir seemed to grin, and size the Stormcast up. “I would ask to join you, but I fear that might be a step too far in bravado,” he said. “So we will settle on betting while we watch.”
Balthor laughed and stood.
“Well that is settled then. Come, Dantomer,” the Lord-Celestant said. “Take us to Merle.”
Nyphen and Dantomer rose, nodding to their host, then weaved their way through the tables to outside the Greathall. Dantomer fell into step behind the Lord Relictor, who did not stop to see if their brethren were following. Outside the Greathall was just as jovial, if not quite so densely populated. Some cheered the sudden appearance of the Stormcast, or bowed their heads in respect. Nyphen paid them no mind beyond making sure not to bowl anyone who hadn’t noticed their approach over- the alcohol had been free-flowing and more than one a ruddy cheek had startled at the sight of their towering armor.
The further they got from the Greathall, the quieter it got, the merry makers giving way to the occasional sentry or mischievous youth.
“How DO you define fun, friends?” Dantomer finally asked. “If crafting and sword play is not lively enough for you?”

sigmarsbulls:
“Not a lively lot then?” Atilla asked from behind his goblet.
“It does seem we define fun differently,” Balthor said with a laugh. True enough, there were few who would define fun the same as the Brass Bulls let alone Balthor’s chamber. Perhaps only Hamilcar Bear-Eater could profess to be more “fun” than the brazen stormhost and have his words ring true.
“Though I am intrigued of this jouncing,” he continued. The Lord-Celestant could smell a challenge where any game was concerned, and he was never one to turn down a perceived challenge. “Describe it, if you would.”
“Or better yet, why don’t we go find this Merle and see for ourselves what she does,” Swiftwind added.
“Yes!” Balthor slammed his goblet down on the table hard enough to draw the attention of everyone around them. A moment of awkward silence passed but when the Lord-Celestant’s beaming smile failed to fade, most turned back to their drinks and meals. “Where would we find Merle?”
A shift in the air pressure around the Lord Relictor betrayed her irritation at Atilla’s comment, though she did not justify it with a response.
Dantomer glanced at her before setting his mug down. “They’d need a bit of space to play, so at the edge of where ever they’ve made camp.”
Nyphen’s voice was soft as she pulled her skull helm down. “Lord Aquilor, bid our host adieu, then we may go find Merle.”

“I would like to see you spend so many eons in the belly of a chaos god and be in a better mood,” Balthor replied with a laugh. “And to be spurned by your creator-god afterwards to boot. Teclis has new favored playthings these days.”
With any further conversation drowned out by Gorthir’s cheering, the Lord-Celestant lifted his glass in recognition of the men and women that would be fighting and most likely dying beside him and the rest of the Stormcast in the battle to come. He wondered how many of their souls would be ferried to Azyr, and how many of them he would see again reforged and returned.
“No sense in bickering about the fish aelves,” Swiftwind said, reaching to refill his goblet. “Might as well enjoy the night before the work begins.”
“Indeed.” Balthor turned his attention back to his comrades. “Lady-Relictor, tell me, what do the members of your stormhost do for fun?”
She blinked, called back from the roar of toasts and drinking. “Fun. Our Host favors retaking and reinforcing strongholds, so each of the chamber have their favored trades. It does the Host good to get to build. But outside the duties laid upon us, it varies. Merle and her lot seem to like a game they call jouncing, and will usually try to get either the locals or another retinues. Justik’s retinue are partial to scrimshawing and whittling.” She tapped her chin with one finger as she mentally walked through the Chamber. “Mutkanian tends to round up as many Evocators as he can to drill them on their bladework. Otherwise they end up seeing how big of fireworks they can make, or I end up shepherding them through whatever archives we can find.”
“Merle’s probably got a game going with our new friends as we speak.” Dantomer laughed. “And as many as the mortal folk brave enough to challenge a Stormcast to a game of kickball.”
“These folk seem more than plenty brave enough.”

sigmarsbulls:
“Well certainly,” Balthor replied. “Beastmen are brutal, but most of them are not the most clever. That’s why they rely on their leaders. Take out the leader, break the breyherd. Not unlike orruks in that way. Vampires are intelligent, and already dead, technically, which makes them significantly harder to keep down.”
“Balthor has opinions on the things he has killed,” Swiftwind said by way of explanatory anecdote. He dismissed the sour look his Lord-Celestant gave him with one of his own. “I am surprised the Lumineth have not taken to keeping their backyard clean, however,” he continued.
“On the plus side, I am sure they are infinitely better neighbors than the Idoneth.”
“Violent delights have violent ends. It makes no difference to me, only that our lives are spent in the defense of mortals, when we could be continuing to build them up. These conflicts drain the good that might have been.” Nyphen sighed. “But perhaps the Lumineth are too busy with their own diversions to bother with human concerns.”
“Idoneth- that they are tolerated at all is unfathomable to me.” Dantomer looked out over the greathall and the mortal men and women feasting. After a moment, he took another drink and set the mug down. He looked as if he were going to speak again, but the thought died in his throat as he laid eyes on Gorthir, who had risen from his seat at the other side of Balthor. He was barely shorter than the seated Stormcast.
The room quieted a fraction, eyes turning to their leader. “A toast, to our allies and friends!” He roared, raising  his goblet. “And to our impending victory!”

sigmarsbulls:
“Is Dagon Thundercrier pleasant?” Balthor asked in return, as if that anyone might ask that question was utterly baffling to him. “I suppose that depends on your definition of pleasant. I certainly would not trust him to act as equerry or diplomat, but he’s jovial enough when he gets to swing his hammer and summon thunderstorms. You can hear him laughing miles off and know exactly where the thick of battle is.”
“Balthor and I tend to be the faces of our respective Chambers,” Swiftwind added. “I think only Greymane has underlings do his diplomatic work. Mostly because he often forgets he has to do it, lost as he usually is in some tome or ancient scroll. His Knight-Incantors have varying feelings on the matter.”
“Doesn’t Lady Starbright keep a number of equerries?”
“Yes, but she’s in Ghyran overseeing Ocean Point. I imagine she has far more diplomatic duties than either you or I. She has the Idoneth to keep in line, and Lord-Veritant Hidesmith skulking about.”
“Peonas? I hear he’s an absolute bear to work with.”
“I would prefer working with a bear.”
“Lady Dragonheart does try to pawn diplomatic assignments on you, now that I think about it...” Dantomer nodded, his eyes on Nyphen.
“As is her prerogative as Lord Celestant.” Nyphen sighed. “She is better at the head of combat focused engagements. It would have been better for her to attend to this.”
“Lady Dragonheart is currently in Hysh, dealing with another ghoul king troubling one of the settlements the Guard had helped establish.” Dantomer explained, gesturing with his goblet. “Not sure what I’d like to fight more- beastmen or vampires.”
“Like there’s some big difference.” Nyphen reached for the pitcher of wine on the table and refilled her goblet.

Pirate Archetype Quiz: the captain
you are inspiration and desperation all at once. whether you are sailing to find aztec gold, to hunt a mythical sea creature, or to discover a lost sunken city, you are determined to go beyond your limits and make a name for yourself. perhaps during your time on land you were not given all the love you deserved, so you believe you must earn it. you impassion your crew with speeches from the bow and you lead by example, but when you are alone in the stern you wonder, what if all of this is for nothing? what if you fail? what you dread is that at the end of the journey, after you’ve harvested all the gold of the seas, it will not fill the aching void in your soul. what confidence and faith you cannot give yourself, you imbue on your crew. you hope you will not let them down. you don’t realise that your crew follow your colors not because of your treasure trove, but because of your heart of gold.
Well that’s certainly a take lol. Not quite introvert Nyphen but I guess she does have to have the skill to lead and inspire as a Lord Relictor.

Knight-mage Chell, portaling her way through an ancient dungeon full of traps
I genre-swapped Portal for an art challenge, and it may or may not have become a whole AU…and there may or may not be a part 2 on the way. Or should I say, a part DOS
Re-designing the portal gun and long fall boots into more fantasy-appropriate forms was a fun challenge
Edit: This isn’t Dragon Age related in any way. Sorry!

sigmarsbulls:
“Dantomer Thunderborn,” Balthor repeated. “I am Balthor Stormblade, Lord-Celestant of the Brass Bulls. And this is my Lord-Aquilor, Atilla Swiftwind.”
Swiftwind nodded his head in greeting. “Why does Lady Allera eschew the festivities?” he asked.
“We obviously don’t align to her taste in company,” Balthor replied with a boisterous laugh. The Lord-Celestant grinned at Thunderborn. “Is that it, Dantomer? Be honest. I know sometimes we can be offensive to the nose.”
Swifwind smirked behind his goblet.
“But we are in Ghur! If it’s not us she’s smelling, it’s something worse!”
The joke was met by a roar of laughter from the locals seated close enough to hear.
Nyphen set her goblet down on the table hard, looking back and forth at theb men she was seated between with an incredulous smile. “I am sure Athelstan’s evocators would happily summon buckets of water to dump over all of you, given the request.”
“He has the sense to wait until after the battle.” Dantomer gave her a wink before taking a swig of the goblet in front of him.
She shook her head, then turned her attention back to the Celestant and his Aquilor. “I am not typically expected to entertain, Lords. Is your Lord Relictor any more pleasant?”

daughter-of-khaine:
Sestia’s smirk grew at the sardonic tone of Resle’s voice. Whether or not the comment was made in mockery, Sestia could appreciate a Stormcast who could keep up with her own verbal sparring - it made for far more interesting conversation than the absolute bores that some of their number were.
Speaking to a Hallowed Knight was like speaking to an especially pious fortress wall.
“A prudent idea - I will have my own line of advance move with yours. My scouts-” She gestured to one of the misty-looking archers, whose head dipped in a deep bow even as her snakelike eyes fixed on the Stormcast. “- Will provide additional guidance. They are most familiar with traversing these mists.”
The Priestess-General gestured again, and one of her archer-bodyguards turned, making for the Khainite column. For the briefest of moments, it almost seemed as if she were slithering. The Witch Aelves had formed up a short distance away, indistinct even from there by way of the thick Ulgulian fog. All the same, the cauldron that formed the center of their formation was easily identified by the hulking statue that topped it. Its eyes seemed to flicker with ruddy light, seeming to push the fog back with its very presence.
“Chelanhearth should be half a day’s march,” Sestia continued, watching her archer’s progress before returning her gaze to the Stormcast. “A Freeguild settlement, if I am not mistaken?”
“Yes. A regiment of the Fresnel Dusk is currently out-posted there; they made the request of our presence.” Resle nodded.
“From there we will be moving to Deep Well. Reports indicate they’re struggling to keep chaos forces at bay, and may already have fallen.” Nyphen added, her words clipped in her impatience.
Resle pulled on her helmet and hoisted herself up into the saddle on the back of her stardrake. The sight of their Lord Celestant in her saddle caused the Host to fall into tight formation behind her. “We hope for less than half a day’s march, but we understand the challenges that lay between us. At your departure, Lady Sestia.”
