My Own Top Five

This is a purely self-indulgent update of my pinned post and my own top five favorite fics of those I’ve written since joining the 911 fandom. MWAH!

the dancer’s dance – I really don’t have the words to describe what this fic did to me/for me. I wasn’t even sure the concept would work when I started writing it, but then I poured myself into it and it burrowed into my heart and here we are. Anyway, it’s one version of Eddie’s queer awakening, with Buck very much at his side while they figure things out. (~9000 words, rated e)

breathe out now and we fall back in – Fake dating! Or Buck and Eddie barely faking anything while dating, I suppose. This was so much fun to write and it kind of ran away with me (and I didn’t bother to stop it). I also got to introduce two OCs, which was very new for me, and it’s entirely possible that they’ll make another appearance someday. (~32,000 words, rated e)

if i told my secrets (if you knew the truth) – Well, let’s see. There’s a love confession at the beginning, and then it takes Buck and Eddie another 15,000 words before they kiss? They have a lot of honest conversations while holding each other, so much of their relationship building before they make it official? The firefam goes on vacation to Mexico? What a ride. (~28,000 words, rated e)

bitter the taste in my mouth – I really wanted to poke around at Buck’s self-destructive tendencies and write something raw and difficult in the wake of Eddie leaving the 118. It’s messy, yes, but also full of love and hope. Actually, love and hope can be really messy sometimes. (~4500 words, rated t)

things that might have been love (things we pretend never happened at all) – Oof. Another one I wasn’t sure would work at all, but ended up kicking me sideways by the time I was done. It’s a 5+1 of “five times Eddie kept his back turned to Buck and the one time he didn't” and it kind of hurt and healed me all at once. I was pretty overwhelmed by (and grateful for!) the reaction to it, too. (~4500 words, rated t) Bonus (maybe?): I have an ongoing series of ficlets, mostly prompt fills. Some of them are…not fantastic. I’m really proud of others. *shrug*
