We need to have a discussion about this right here:
Lauren Ridloff mentioned a few times in interviews that, like Druig, Makkari has a hard time not interfering with humans, and this small moment is enough to show us that she really does care for them, even if it isn't as prominent in the story as it is with characters like Sersi and Druig. Let me explain:
At that moment, Makkari was supposed to be helping the other Eternals fight off the last few active Deviants. Where is she instead? She's running around in Tenochtitlan while the Spaniards are destroying the city and killing its people. A human conflict which the Eternals are repeatedly instructed not to get involved with. That kid wasn't in danger from a Deviant, purely human destruction, but Makkari saved them anyway, and who knows how many other people she saved while zipping through the chaos. But she can't stay in the city, saving people left and right, or else Ajak or someone will notice, so she returns to Thena's side as they commune in the forest. When Ajak asks where the others are, Thena gives Makkari a look as if she knows what she's been up to, but lets Makkari say they had to split up instead to cover her tracks (yea I might be reading into this too much but just let me have this one ok). I mean we know how much Thena loves fighting, so it isn't too far fetched to suggest she let Makkari leave the fight to her for a little bit to help a few humans.
And now for another minuscule thing: that little convo between Makkari and Druig in Babylon. Obviously from that scene, we are shown Druig's desire to step into and end human conflicts, but we also get a subtle hint that Makkari has her own history with interfering. (And before I say anything more, just know I'm not Deaf or HoH, and I only have a base knowledge of ASL from some classes I took years ago, so don't take my word for this. I just wanted to mention it in case anyone else got the same idea). When Makkari is reminding Druig that Ajak told them they aren't supposed to interfere in human conflicts, the sign she uses specifically refers to her and Druig. She didn't sign "the Eternals", she signed something that can be equivalent to "us", or "the two of us", despite it being captioned as "we" (which could technically also refer to only the two of them, but it isn't as specific). So we could assume at some point, Ajak caught BOTH of them trying to stop some sort of dispute between humans.
So in conclusion, I headcanon Makkari and Druig sneaking around like vigilantes behind the backs of the other Eternals, and the only person to notice is Thena, but she just lets them because they're her family and she loves them and she lowkey agrees with them and even helps keep it a secret for as long as possible.

I'll always wonder if the unintentional Drukkari ship messed with any of Marvel's plans for future projects. Because now they HAVE to write in their relationship, no matter what they had originally planned for the characters or the plot. And they must know by now that if they ever break them up/kill one of them off, Marvel is gonna have a full internet rampage to deal with. I've literally never seen so many people get behind a canon MCU ship from the beginning, and Drukkari managed to pull that off with a couple glances and a few lines of dialogue.

It haunts me, but I do think that Druig and Makkari are the basis of the Hades/Persephone myth in the MCU, based on his pain at the deaths of humankind and desire to sequester himself far away from the rest of humanity — though possibly allowing himself to witness loss throughout the ages while grappling with the fact that he can do nothing to stop it — and her seasonal appearances, passing so quickly through, but always appearing like clockwork at certain periods just to visit Druig, who actually comes alive when he sees her because she is a reminder of all that can be so joyfully alive, even if her time with him is brief and she dashes off again.

Some eternals definitely kept in touch through the years.
Druig knew Phastos had given up on humans a long time ago and he put Thena to sleep once for Gilgamesh to have a vacation to Fiji. They also knew how to find each other. I’m curious about how some of those meetings went and how they communicated through all these centuries. Letters? Phone calls? For Druig I’d say maybe letters, I doubt the cell service is great in the middle of the Amazon (unless you have Sersi’s amazing phone), and I can see that happening. He is not exactly the ‘let’s talk over the phone to catch up’ kind of person, I can see him preferring letters. For Gilgamesh and Thena too, they also were in the middle of nowhere.
I also don’t think this was a long time ago (vacation to Fiji sounds recent to me) and I wouldn’t say that Gilgamesh traveled with Thena, that’s too risky (what if she has an episode with people around?) so I think Druig went to them, leaving the community once, to help his family. It seems odd that they would leave her alone in their home, so maybe Druig even stayed with her during this time.
They knew were Gilgamesh and Thena were living, Druig knew Kingo was a movie star, they knew were Phastos was, and I refuse to believe Druig and Makkari didn’t keep in touch (she gave him the leather jacket and no one can tell me otherwise so he put that on cause he knew they were going to get her and I’m gonna stop before I write a whole ass fic here).
What do you guys think they did all these years? Who kept in touch with who and how they spent their time together? I’m curious! Chloe Zhao I know you’re a fangirl and reads fan stuff online so if you read this please help, I need answers!

I've been thinking about this for a while and I need to know if Lauren and Barry's Makkari/Druig colour switch was on purpose. It probably wasn't, but I need. to. know.

As much as I love Drukkari, I would rather a general Eternals Disney+ show. WandaVision worked well because a huge part of both of those characters' overall arcs were about their relationship with each other. Makkari and Druig have more individual stories, but they also just so happen to be in a relationship (not saying Wanda and Vision aren't individuals, but their character arcs are much more intertwined, particularly with Vision). Plus the other Eternals also deserve more time to shine.
I wanna see Thena be a badass in Greece, but also some down time with her and Gilgamesh in Australia.
I wanna see Sersi bonding with the humans more, some shenanigans with her and Sprite in London, but also more depth with her and Ikaris' relationship, and his struggles with following his mission while also staying true to his love.
I wanna see Phastos' involvement with the different technological revolutions in history, but also the moment he decided humans are worth it with Ben and Jack.
I wanna see Ajak trying to keep their cosmic dysfunctional family together, but also how the humans affected her over time to the point that she realizes they are worth more than her mission.
I want an episode that's a straight comedy where we see Kingo come up with his elaborate plan to become the most famous Bollywood star(s) in the world, plus more Karun content.
I wanna see an episode showing the different points in history that Druig tried to intervene, and more about his Amazonian village, but also a seperate episode where we follow Makkari while she travels around the world to admire all the great things humans have created and her own struggles with not getting too involved with humanity.
Drukkari literally owns my whole heart, but there are so many stories I want to see from ALL the characters, together and apart.

I hear a lot about how Ikaris is the older brother and Druig is the younger brother, but I always saw it more as Sersi being the older, yet a bit insecure, sister and Druig being the slightly younger, but encouraging and protective brother. Making Ikaris and Druig more of enemies-to-brother-in-laws-who-tolerate-each-other-just-enough-for-the-sake-of-a-shared-loved-one if that makes sense to anyone else

I haven't seen anything about this anywhere yet so: CAN WE TALK ABOUT DRUIG AND THENA'S RELATIONSHIP? They don't have many scenes together, but the few interactions we do get makes me feel like there's more to them than most people think.
1. Druig is one of the only ones to speak out against having Thena's memories erased.
2. Druig looked after Thena for at least a little bit so that Gilgamesh could have a break. Even tho he just put her to sleep or whatever, there's no way he didn't stay with her the whole time to make sure she was ok.
3. When the others find Druig in the Amazon and update him about everything, Thena sits there calmly and lets Druig let off some steam. That whole scene is Druig picking a fight with almost everyone in the room, but when he walks up to Thena and Gilgamesh, he does nothing.
3. Druig is the one person that takes Thena to the lake so she can spread Gilgamesh's ashes??? He gives her space but stays close enough so that she isn't alone in her time of grief??? None of the other Eternals were there with her (Maybe Sersi was, but she seems to have just walked over to chat with Druig)
4. Druig tries to convince Thena that taking revenge on Kro won't do her any good, that there are better ways to deal with grief. (ofc it was pretty badass of her to take him down, but Druig also understands very intimately how violence is a vicious cycle and he's just looking out for his friend🥺)
Anyways, they definately have history together and I hope we see more of it in Eternals 2 or whatever movie/show they appear in next.

Ok but what if Marvel actually decides to take the Dark Druig route because of his villainous history in the comics. I know his movie counterpart is obviously different and he's shown to be very empathetic, more of a pacifist, and he cares a lot about humanity and his family, but we also get the hint that he isn't quite as against the Deviants as the others are.
"No Sersi, that makes them us. Eternals and Deviants, Arishem's children."
What if when they get to another planet, the Eternals start fighting off the Deviants and he protects them? He claims they shouldn't destroy their own kind. That the Deviants are just as much pawns as the Eternals were, and the Deviants were just given more violent orders.
Obviously this is all hypothetical, and I don't actually know how they could make this work because I genuinely feel like Druig has too good of a heart in the movies to really "go bad", but it's interesting to think about.

Ever since I saw Eternals, I've literally done nothing but watch Drukkari edits that use the same 4 clips in slightly different orders set to various Taylor Swift songs.
