Marks And Spencers

The second retail shop I chose to document is Marks and Spencers, I chose this because it vastly contrasts to Topshop as its aimed at more of an older custom range. As you can tell the clothes in Marks and Spencers are more longer and winter themed, they're priced at a cheap to average price ranged. The way the clothes are set out on the models are not as interesting as the Topshop ones as they're plainly fitted mannequins or in rows like the shoes. Personally, I think thats why it attracts more of the older audiences attention because theres nothing too special for the younger people to be drawn to. Marks and Spencers doesn't really give you an opportunity to create your own looks or express yourself as much. Again, I think this is why older audience goes there because the vast majority seem to have the same style in clothes. The jewellery pictured is also based at a more of a older audience as younger people tent to wear more simplistic, and the ones photographed are more blingy and stand out. I think that more dressy casual can also be achieved in this shop, although in Topshop this could be created I think Marks and Spencers is a lot less creative and edgy. For example, each outfit shown would easily be able to worn out on a daily by a older women. Whereas, if a younger girl would wear it it'd look like she was extremely dressed up. This shows the difference in the age of fashion. Overall, I think Marks and Spencers is definitely more directed at and older age group with a dressy casual overall look, I don't think it gives as much freedom to create own styles as Topshop but is great for people who like to have trends set for them.

York Retail-Topshop

During our trip to York we had to look round different retail shops and document them. The first shop I chose was Topshop because its a very popular high street company. Personally, I think the prices are quite high but for the quality of the clothes they fit just perfectly. As you can see the clothes they sell are quite dressy casual, therefore you could use the outfits for multiple occasions. For example, the tops in the photos could be worn with jeans for more of a casual look but then again could be worn with flares or the shoes shown in the photo for more of a formal look. Again, the belts could be used for an accessory with just jeans and a simple top or they would be used with more of a formal look such as a dress or trousers and a blouse. They’re mostly based on clothes for teenagers to young adults as the clothes are more fitted and some which older people might find daunting to wear.  The way they present the clothes in the shops are quite aesthetically pleasing as each section has clothes that match surrounding them. Whereas, if the clothes were all mixed up they wouldn’t be as appealing to the customers.Overall, Topshop clothing has a wide variety of clothing for each individuals personality, they have simplistic clothing items for people who may just like plain outfits but them they have edgier items which people could mix n match to create their perfect outfit.

Customer profile board This is a customer profile board that I created online based on ‘Free Spirited Hippie.’ Each image I chose represents the idea I’m trying to achieve. As you can see the outfits are not what you’d see everybody wearing. They’re mostly colourful outfits which contrast to the first 3 outfits I created. This presents the variety of inspiration which goes into this look. Again, the idea of these looks are for people to be inspired to wear what they want wit confidence. This looks at the creative side of fashion by expressing yourself through clothes.

Customer Profile Board

This customer profile board is based off the ‘Free Spirited Hippie.’ I chose looks from magazines which I could see relating to my theme. Each outfit I picked out ranged from high street to high end designers. They range from casual day outfits to formal outfits. This helps me see a broad variety of of looks she could have, expanding from the 3 I previously created. The main model in the middle will be the face of my looks for the rest of the outfits to be created. Each outfit i have chose represents the origional look i pictured, some with a change. The aim of this looks is to be something casual but unusual. As you can see the outfits arent what youd see a normal everyday person wearing and i am trying to portray to be individual and wear what you like not what society likes.

Free Spirited Hippie

This look is based off a free spirited hippie, she is a instagram influencer who wears brands clothes to promote them. Posting them online at music festivals or when she travels the world attracts customers as the asthetic appeals to people, making them aspire to be like her.

The first looks isnpires people to wear how what they want and how they want, the tshirt worn over the jumper indicates how she woke up that morning feeling confused and not too great but still manages to sell it to audiences with how she turned it into style. She wants to send a message out to show people to dress differently to others and be themselves. The item is priced as a highstreet retail shop would be priced, just like urban outfitters. The customer usually varies from people like her who enjoy going to festivals to enjoy music and travelling exotic places.

The second look illustrates how simple clothes can be created into their own style, the simple black tshirt dress has been created into an edgy look just by the army like jack and neon glasses being added. The beanie is added just to create a small contrast on colours from back the white. Again, the customer usually buying this is a highstreet retail shopper who aims to be different to everyone else with their own style.

The third look is much more simplier but also just as effective, a siomple white pencil skirt and black tshirt added with small accesories such as aimple black belt and a bumbag. as a whole these small accesories contrasting with the simple tshirt and skirt creates a whole edgier look to wear. The outfit again is sold in a highstreet retail shop but is more worn than the other two, by the fact it is much simplier to wear. This outfit is much cheaper than the rest but still could ultimately be as effective as the rest.
