I recently have acquired a new schedule that is causing me to pencil in studio time like an event. Today my bench feels like an old friend I've been neglecting, so I had to take a few process pics while making some new work. Now sure if you know this, but I'm a metalsmith. And I love it.

Half way into the Swarovski photoshoot and we're ahead of schedule. It's always funny to work on a Fall season collection when it's barely spring here in New England. Still, there are some nice new pieces and I expect to have glamorous and sparkly results.

I wish I could be brave enough to use color like Jesse Reno. Thanks Ryan Blackwell for adding this to your Tumblr. My new goal in life is to use up the paint I have left from undergrad.

Tonight I'm busy making those findings that all jewelers pay special attention to. There's nothing like the handmade pinback, ear wire or clasp. The effort goes a long way. (Also thought I'd share my industrial chic view from my soldering bench)

New to Me
I usually am the last persons to buy the latest technology or hear about cool trends, so excuse me for finally noticing the jewelry gallery in D.C., Jewelers'Werk. This gorgeous bright white space sounds like it has a romantic location I look forward to visiting. Maybe one day New Bedford will sustain a contemporary jewelry gallery of this caliber. Until then, I've provided a link to an interview from 2013 with the gallery owner, who gives a nice comparison between the value of a painting and a piece of jewelry. Check it out: http://www.artjewelryforum.org/dealer-galleries/jewelers’werk-galerie

Tonight I helped prepare new additions to the permanent collection at the Fuller Craft Museum. It was an honor to help make some classics sparkle again. The show opens this Saturday and is called, Crafting a Collection. I felt slightly pressured while cleaning each piece made by a few pioneers of the metalsmithing field. All the work came out great though and I'm confident they'll approve.

Not sure why, but I like to make a lot of work for myself and I feel the need to hammer on every inch of my metal. #hatchstreetstudio #lindsaymis.com

Another shoot with Swarovski's Touchstone Crystal company in Providence, RI. I have a blast using smoke and mirrors to create luscious pictures of jewels.

The necklace is my latest addition to a series I'm currently working on in  my studio. Crowells Fine Art in New Bedford is showing the necklace this month, along with pieces made by the artists in my studio building, Hatch Street. The opening is next weekend. There is some definite talent in that show. I see my building mates working away in their studios, but never see the final pieces.  I was impressed and happy to be among them.

The British Library just launched a website devoted to writers' notebooks and manuscripts. Visual artist may find many crossovers between the writers notebook and the artists sketchbook in the podcast link I've provided. Maybe the Met could open a wing honoring famous artists sketchbooks. The sketchbook is a visual of an artists mind. I am drawn to those who keep one and revisit the pages of my art books which include snippets from artists I admire, particularly books which include Hermann Junger, a German goldsmith who's popularity began in 1960. Jungers sketches were just as beautiful as his work. Would an exhibit of sketchbooks draw the same crowd as the work itself? Often the pages consist of concepts free of gravity. The page is a place where anything can occur. Maybe I'll curate an exhibit of sketchbooks accompanied with the physical artwork on the pages. Friends, do share if you keep a sketchbook. I'd love to include you in this show someday.
