Leona Fan Project
So, I've had an idea and i’m hoping you buns want to be a part of it. I appreciate that not every fan gets to meet Leona or she might not see your words online and i want to help. I want to collect your messages and make a book for Leona - If you want Leona to know, write it and send it and i’ll hand it to her next month.
From the honesty in her letters and her interviews, we all know that Leona has been through a lot the past few years and there have been a lot of changes for her. I was thinking, with the new era approaching, it would be really special to get as much love and support to Leona, to let her know we’re by her side.
If you want to be a part of this book, please email me your message to [email protected] by June 3rd.  I won’t be editing your messages and i won’t be making it public so go for it - although please keep it respectful ;)
I appreciate some people have their issues with me but this is about getting the support to Leona so if you can help this grow or share it, thank you. I want to make this fair. If you pass this around on twitter, please don’t @ Leona though, in case she’s lurking ;) I will get it to her and it would be awesome to have as many messages as possible.
If you have any questions, my twitter is @Burtini :)

Hello Again
So, i decided to bring this blog back after a year’s absence because this era is just too exciting!! I CAN’T HOLD BACK ANYMORE!!!
I never stopped being a fan, if you know me at all you will know that, i just didn’t feel respected or appreciated enough to keep the blog going so i needed a break from it all. BUT the need to talk about Leona is just too strong, as is the terrible want to show her off to the world like a proud mother.
It’s been an eventful year  - the movie (fabulous), the showcase (FABULOUS), the new labelS (FAB-U-LOUS) ... And the future for Leona looks so incredible. I could not be happier or prouder of her, we are going to see many wonderful things :)))
Thank you if you’re still following, the kind support was and always will be appreciated xx

Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love ~ October 24th (British Airways A380 Launch)
“Performing on the wing of the British Airways A380 was an incredible experience and one I will never forget.  After  singing  on  top  of a double-decker bus at the 2008 Beijing  Olympics,  I  thought  that  would  be  a  hard act to follow, but tonight’s ‘Gig on a Wing’ event was very special and unique.”

Leona Lewis is trying something new. Why don't you?
This week it was announced that Leona Lewis, XFactor winner and chart topping British pop star is to make her acting debut in British musical film, Holiday! (working title). I know this because it was covered in many national and international newspapers. I also know this because I am in it too, and we have been working together in Italy (where the film is set) for nearly a month. Let me just say now that Leona is professional, friendly, talented and eager to learn about the world of acting – I know that’s not exactly the most gossip worthy information out there, but it is the truth, and the problem with the truth is that it is usually either extremely banal, or so ‘out there’ that no-one believes it anyway. Lies are often much more palatable.
So, here I am, reporting from the film set, embedded deep in the southern Italian countryside, reading the media reports on a broken smart phone in a small trailer in a car park (aka our temporary working environment) with a mixture of excitement and amusement. Many of the reported facts thus far are wrong, but the pictures look good and who in this business can ever sincerely claim to be upset by a few harmless inaccuracies about being at work? It’s helpful to be photographed while on the job, and Leona knows that as well as any of us.
But within the apparently benign coverage there is a sniff of something negative – a whiff of a ‘who does she think she is?’ Some sneering of the ‘popstar becomes actress and falls flat on her face’ variety, all of which was no doubt anticipated by Leona and those who work with her, but is nevertheless unfair, in my opinion. Because what Leona is doing is trying something new, something unfamiliar, and even though this seems to wind some people up, she should be applauded.
Tumblr media
We have an unhealthy obsession with ‘paying our dues’ in the UK, and it can be crippling, creating an environment where we are all too afraid to strike out and take a risk, lest someone decides that we are not worthy of grasping an opportunity that comes our way – a ‘who do you think you are’ mentality that is stifling and outdated. Of course greater skill comes with experience, but experience comes in many forms and there is nothing wrong with giving something new a go. I should also mention here that Leona did in fact train at Sylvia Young’s drama school and has a background in musical theatre – just in case that makes any of the naysayers feel better.
In 2002 I raised £25,000 in order to take a group of actors to East Africa to teach drama to school children. Through our research we found that children in these schools had a great deal of academic rigour, but found it hard to express themselves freely. Many wanted to be doctors or lawyers, and certainly had the intelligence and education to pursue such careers, but when asked to stand before their peers and speak aloud, they clammed up and could barely be heard. A short drama lesson i.e. an environment where there were no right or wrong answers, went some way to helping, and many schools saw the benefit and pledged to continue the work after we had to come home.
I remember being at a party shortly before I flew to Nairobi to start our tour, and meeting a man who was studying to be a doctor. I told him of the project I was about to embark on, and he suddenly became extremely angry. I remember him shouting in my face: “Why do you get to do that? Why should you be allowed to do that?”
I tried to explain myself, but he was strangely furious (it may have been the gin…), and so I found someone else to talk to. A year later I was told that on completing his medical training, he had arranged to go straight to Uganda to work as a doctor. The penny dropped, and I realised his formerly unfathomable anger had actually been an expression of his frustration at meeting someone who was doing something similar to what he would like to do himself. The last I heard he was living a very happy and fulfilled life, working in a hospital in Kampala.
I think of this often when I encounter anyone whose reaction to what I am doing seems a little out of proportion, and I try to remind myself that taking risks, trying something new, putting myself in an unfamiliar situation is a vital part of the kind of life I want to have. Of course you must learn from those more experienced than you, of course you don’t swagger into a room and act like you know it all when you are far from your comfort zone, of course you may encounter failure, negativity, humiliation, defeat and exposure, and none of these things is pleasant, but as far as I am concerned, to avoid a step into the unknown altogether is a far more depressing prospect. In taking up acting, Leona Lewis is trying something new, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
