WHAT COLOR IS YOUR MUSE you are mediumseagreen #3CB371
Tumblr media
Your dominant hues are cyan and green. Although you definitely strive to be logical you care about people and know there's a time and place for thinking emotionally. Your head rules most things but your heart rules others, and getting them to meet in the middle takes a lot of your energy some days. Your saturation level is medium - You're not the most decisive go-getter, but you can get a job done when it's required of you. You probably don't think the world can change for you and don't want to spend too much effort trying to force it. Your outlook on life is brighter than most people's. You like the idea of influencing things for the better and find hope in situations where others might give up. You're not exactly a bouncy sunshine but things in your world generally look up.

Tumblr media
“ look selen, i know i ain’t th’ smartest light bulb in th’ bunch, but ya gotta admit i did pretty darn good on the first level! those guards ain’t no fancy-shmancy NPCs like we got in them vidya games nowadays—they ain’t gonna respawn! …least i don’ think they will. well, anyways, even if they DO respawn, i’ll just rough ‘em up again! i know i’m mostly here for defense, but ya shoulda seen me when i tried to kick th’ guy ‘n he pulled my leg clean right off! i started hoppin’ after him and then beat him with my leg before puttin’ it back on, it was a real hoot i tell ya! “
she clears her throat though, knowing that the situation was dire and was no laughing matter ( even though it WAS pretty funny… ). “ …okay, okay, i know, we’s gotta be serious, ‘n it might’ve jus’ been sheer luck by me, but at least now we c’n go to th’ secon’ level no problem, right? now c’mon ya son of a gun, le’s go rescue th’ king ‘n empress! “
Tumblr media
“Quinn, you did fantastically. If they respawn, we can cover each other’s backs, just like before.” He can’t help but smile a little. Quinn’s levity was the best medicine for such a harsh situation--really, he was worried sick for his king, but overthinking the situation when it could be rectified wasn’t going to help. Crying was something he’d done too much of lately. Though she hid it well, Quinn was probably just as worried for her empress. They had a common anxiety, and a common goal.
“The second level’s a labyrinth... make sure we don’t leave each other’s sights. I’ll follow you.”
Striding on, the knight’s pace suddenly slows and his eyes widen, covering his mouth to conceal an awful snort laugh. “--Sorry, you did what with your leg? That’s amazing. How do they work, do they just... pop off?”

“You won’t! You won’t, that’s never gonna happen, never.” In Carmi’s voice was a desperate sort of tone, as if he was pleading for his partner to believe in what he said. Truly he couldn’t emphasize with him; he had trouble doing that in general, putting himself into another’s situation. Overthinking or holding onto the burdens of the past, like his boyfriend did, were not common traits of his, but Selen had made it explicitly clear that these potential problems were causing him grief.
He couldn’t relate at all. But he also couldn’t sit and let him wear that sorrowful, reflecting face. Just hearing him talk about his mother, how angry he became, there was a certain harshness to it he disliked being a witness of. A turn of the hand Selen had cupped, but then lowered in his rant, linking their thumbs together.
“I don’t really know a lot about what happened to your family, so I’m… kind of lost. I just—babe—those’re what-if’s. That’s all they are! They can’t hurt you here. And I don’t know your dad either, but I know you. You wouldn’t do anything like that to me.” Such faith he put in his guard, almost as blind as the other’s loyalty. Perhaps it was his gut speaking for him.
Tumblr media
“Besides, even if she said you two’re alike, you’re still two different people. Y'know? Your dad’s your dad, you’re you. Selen.”
For a few seconds, the cynicism that had plagued Selen just moments before threatened to return as a sardonic stare was shot towards the corner of the tent. It wasn’t until the pairs’ thumbs interlocked he really listened, took Carmi’s sweet words to heart. Brown and aqua eyes locked in a similar manner.
Tumblr media
Selen’s bottom lip quivered. Really, it was something so simple. But there was something about hearing it from Carmi, the creature he loved the most... it was therapeutic. Therapeutic and true. The knight valued his loyalty above all else--abandonment had never occurred to him. He was never doomed. He wasn’t his father.
What had started as a vague mist in the corners of his eyes began to cascade uncontrollably.
Tumblr media
“Thank you,” he choked through muffled sobs, in no position to wipe his tears (or his dripping nose). Rather than trying to speak again, the knight squeezed at his healer’s hand. It didn’t satiate him, but burying his messy face in the other’s shoulder certainly did.

melligine:
His grip on Selen’s arm tightened at his shift in body language. Before he could ask what was wrong, he already started admitting his inner burdens, downward gaze unwavering. Out of concern and confusion, the monarch leaned forward to try and get the other to look at him, hold now relaxing slightly as one thumb stroked in a slow, circular motion.
“…What do you mean? If—if it’s practice you needed, that’s my fault, Sel; I should’ve made sure you could use it safely, I’d never seen you use ice before and I thought I could, I-I thought we could help.” He was right, Carmi didn’t know, and he hadn’t taken precautions with the information given either. It took time to recognize that he pounced on the opportunity to lend a hand in the form of his best knight, but he wasn’t dense enough to ignore his mistake when the evidence was right in front of him. Back in one piece, for that he was grateful, although he was not unscathed. Not at all.
His mouth opened to say something percipient, silence filling the air as his mind drew a blank. While he came up with a sentence immediately after (lack of conversation caused him to turn uneasy), the hand that rested on Selen’s inner arm reached out to caress his face.
Tumblr media
“You didn’t let me down. You tried, that’s more than enough.”
Selen’s hand reached up to hold the other’s so gently, as if it was made of porcelain. For a moment, he basked in the silence. He could’ve made that silence last longer, in his own mind or otherwise. But looking to his king as delicately as he held his hand, Selen turned his racing train of thought into a racing train of words.
“No, no, don’t--don’t think that. This is my fault, you did nothing wrong. I don’t think I tried. That’s what’s eating away at me. I haven’t tried for a while, not with this.” He moved the fingers of his free, untreated hand--a memento of his negligence. Even moving the frozen digits ached. “After he left out of the blue, I refused to practice with it. It was just another reminder that I was his--!”
His gaze turned to something more akin to anger, the pace his words left him quickening and strengthening in tone. Not at Carmi. These words are directed at the floor again. “And my mom, she didn’t let me forget either. She kept talking about how similar we both were, the hair, how we acted, and even how we talked... when she wasn’t breaking down and screaming about how much of a monster he was for leaving, or screaming at me. She’s right about him, but... Carmi, I--”
Tumblr media
“I’m fucking terrified I’ll end up like him one day. My mom became the person she did because of my dad. I don’t know how long I’m gonna live for, either--hell, I barely know what I am. What if I leave you?”

✱ LITCCI
Every empire’s burden of a ravaging creature seemed to lift at once; to see such a large and destructive beast disappear so suddenly, as if made of vapor, both stunned people and had them bursting with joy. The panic was over, the muse of their fear was no more! Unfortunately all aftermath of the events did not vanish as well, property still destroyed, people remaining missing, wounded, or dead. It took more time to gather themselves before many were able to return home (or have some form of home to return to).
Carmi’s visit to Itarus forced him to remain there longer than he would’ve preferred, although he was glad overall that he had chosen to come. The poison that was slowly spreading throughout his insides diminished as he took proper baths, alongside choice medicines, courtesy of the empress. He was surely weaker than he should be, but at least he could travel back to Melcio through the use of a royal portal and get to helping again… with more caution this time, obviously.
It had been a very rough string of months. The future for everyone seemed to be shrouded in uncertainty, and there would be plenty of work to do before anybody in said future could live in a comfortable manner. Fixing all of this would take money and time—the latter was a term he continued to struggle on, being so incapable of focusing when it came to the hypotheticals. Perhaps he could take out loans from allies, and figure out how to repay them when all problems became settled.
Two weeks after his homecoming, soldiers sent afar were brought back in groups, a process that continued long after sundown. Carmi started out greeting and welcoming them all home, but found himself in medical tents more and more until he stayed there completely. Busy, busy, busy, too busy to show his face to those he’d sent fighting for another country besides their own. Having learned his lesson the king didn’t strain his body, taking breaks outside or using alternative methods besides water.
On one of these breaks in particular he was met with a momentous body slam from behind, yelling in surprise before familiar cold hands (almost unfamiliar, given their state of disrepair) wrapped themselves around him. Immediately he had pulled them off to turn, but they quickly went and cupped his face. Their temperature had nothing to do with the cry he let out next, anyone in the neighboring tents hearing the reunited couple make incoherent noises of relief and euphoria as they clung tightly to each other. There was laughing, there was crying; being in the presence of his beloved had emotion literally pouring out of him in the form of tears.
They progressed toward his personal tent only after calming down long enough to walk over there. A cot, a desk, two chairs, and an assortment of boxes for things such as clothes, medicines, and other necessities was all he possessed at the moment. The flap of his tent was secured and Carmi had his partner sit on one of the chairs, then pulled his closer, an arm loosely taken into his grasp. He winced in response to Selen’s similar action—his frost bite was incredible. Pain would be something he couldn’t remove from healing, no matter how badly he wanted to ease it. Maybe he could have his knight focus on something else. His sitting position was adjusted and he frowned slightly as he worked, both his hands occupied as water covered the skin of Selen’s arm.
Tumblr media
Voice low and gentle, he posed the conversation topic. “Hey, tell me more about Acirus. Was your ice any good against their monster?”
The sensation of water against chapped skin slowly soothed, but it wasn’t without initial searing pain masked behind gritted teeth. He did a foul job of it, really. Not that he needed to put forward a persona–Carmi was here. Here, and holding him. Rather than settling on the miracle of healing (he’d inspected the state of his arms and hands far too much lately), eyes were transfixed on those welcoming aqua eyes.
Selen’s own eyes softened at the sound of that velveteen voice. But their attention was sent elsewhere upon taking in his king’s words–one word specifically–settling on his boots in… was that shame? “Yeah. Yeah, it worked a treat. We’ll have to visit Acirus again once things are back to whatever normality can be recovered there, it’s a nice place. Just–”
Tumblr media
His stomach churned. Not from being healed, he couldn’t have been further away from the present. Almost literally. The stare at his shoes came to a crawl. His words ejected of their own volition, as if vomiting guilt, interjecting Carmi before he could say his own piece.
“I wasn’t ready. You weren’t to know, I should’ve been more transparent to you, but I tried using it and I… Carmi, I was as good as useless out there. I snapped at people I shouldn’t have. All the time I used it, it felt so–I wasn’t right and it wasn’t right, and I let everyone down. Especially you.”

⚔;-god dammit, she just had to take a vacation when the world went to shit, didn’t she?! oh god - had she left her empire to rot and crumble? her family to die? no.. not again - not like this! she can’t lose anyone anymore!
⚔;-if only she had her wings… she could fly to them and see what fate had deemed them worthy of, but perhaps this was a blessing in disguise ( more for the other than for herself ). she doesn’t know the person, but she was a born defender, and so when she sees their injury she’s quick to jump into action.
⚔;-a swing from the beast heads their way. doing a dolphin dive, quinn rolls on the slowly withering grass and puts her arm in the way to deflect the attack. when it’s struck, the red gem on her arm-guard breaks, and the monster is blown back as a shimmering red aura encompasses the area.
⚔;-she can’t move from her position, but she turns her head back to take a quick look at the other. the creature seemed dazed enough that they could maybe get away, but was this person even in a state to run? ❝ hey, you! can you run? ❞ immediately after she asks that, a grunt is given as the beast is back onto its feet, pounding on the barrier. her offer still stood, though; it wouldn’t last long, but maybe she could distract the monster long enough for the other to get away. ❝ m’ horse is waitin’ back at there bridge o’r the river. if you c’n run, get to ‘er then get the hell outta here! ❞
Eyes set on the ground, trying to regather his strength, it isn’t the presence of another that grabs Selen’s attention first, but the sudden red aura enveloping the area. Eyes wide as dinner plates, the knight’s bottom lip quivers a little, gaze darting between his saviour and the creature.
“...Fine. I’m fine. I just hit my head.” The pounding on the barrier sends that point home, every thud sending another spitting headache to the front of his head. Still, he staggers to Quinn’s side, heeding the sentinel’s words. His expression softens as if accepting the offer, and a frostbitten hand makes its way to Quinn’s shoulder--
Tumblr media
--Before shoving her away with it.
Brown eyes never usually look cold, but Selen’s find a way in this moment. “I’d love to take you up on that offer, but I have to do this. My king sent me, he believed I could help... that thing, it’s weak to ice, isn’t it?” As if on cue, a haze of water vapour deposits around one arm, crystallising to ice. It hurts. God, it hurts, but all Selen needs to do now is wait for that barrier to inevitably shatter, then make his move.
“Thank you, but leave me. You’re the one that should be running. Go and help who you can, there are more injured further back.”

This... wasn’t going well.
Tumblr media
The malcontent of being drafted to help Acirus, not Melcio, certainly didn’t aid his performance, considering just how transparent the reason behind it was. Opening up to his king about his affinity with ice was a mistake at the time, and it still was. The creature didn’t seem to be having any of it, either.
With an unmoving expression, half-frozen hands wipe the deep gash on his head as he shuffles to cover, glancing around the area as a silent cry for help.

Regardless of if he was right or wrong Carmi appreciated this attention, smile turning wobbly at the cheek kiss, then immediately giggling after the chaste addition and commentary. It wasn’t enough to satisfy but he couldn’t complain, what with how red he’d left Selen’s face. His head was tilted slightly just to look fondly over at the other before agreeing to let him lead them both to the cafe—the thought of it now having the king hum in his excitement.
It had only taken them three more minutes to arrive, his knight holding the door for him as he stepped inside. The space was very quaint and smelt of cinnamon and freshly baked bread, a small array of circular tables and a selection of window seats available; only a few customers were present to see the renowned couple make their way to the display counter.
Tumblr media
“There it is,” he said under his breath, eyes focused on decadent cheesecake slices, “my food love.” He turned to Selen, expectant face illuminated by lights in the counter, before searching for the pastry he knew his white-haired companion would want.
While Carmi ogled the counter, Selen’s priorities were elsewhere, dumping his coat on a quaint-looking window seat. Not that the place was especially busy--not that it stopped a few wandering eyes from looking at the couple. He relished in the attention for a split second, promptly joining the king by his side, complete with an arm around the other’s waist.
“Oh, they still have it?” A sigh of relief escaped his lips, recoiling to look for his own beloved food. “I got talking to the staff in here, the cheesecake usually sells out by--they still have it.”
Tumblr media
Gluttony overtook him for a moment, not hesitating for a second more to order their pastries of choice for the two of them. With one last waist squeeze, Selen flashed the king a knowing smile. “Go ahead and take a seat, I’ll get us some tea and bring these over. You must be exhausted.”

@litcci
So to be perfectly honest, Cet hadn’t exactly bothered to commit the layout of this kingdom to memory. Acirus was difficult enough to navigate on its own, but Melcio really was something else. He’d about had it after taking another turn into yet another dead end. Palms together, Cet took a deep breath, exhaling heavily to vent his frustration.
The brick wall in front of him seemed too smug for an inanimate object, and he wasn’t about to let it have the last laugh. Holding out his hand, Cet drew a line in the air, watching as a portal tore open. He had a vague idea of the inn he was staying at, and most of the time that was all he needed to hop between locations.
Trusting that he’d be able to depend on himself, he took a self assured step through the freshly opened portal. But one foot out and he was already losing his balance, and before he could catching himself, he found that he’d stepped onto the edge of a table, flipping over everything on top of it as well as the table itself. He watched in horror as someone’s lunch was flung ten feet in the air and he tumbled, with as much grace as one can, to the floor, silverware clanging against the ground and breadsticks rolling towards freedom.
From his vantage point on the floor, Cet was able to gather that he’d overshot his destination by a few buildings. And glancing up, he was able to meet the eyes of the poor bystander who’s lunch he’d ruined.
He sat up, not sure where to start, but positive that he should apologize.
Tumblr media
Clearing his throat, Cet stood up and brushed himself off, trying to look unfazed. “Before you ask, why yes, it did hurt when I fell from heaven.”
He bent down to pick up a stray breadstick and placed it in the other’s hand. “Sorry to drop in like this, but you wouldn’t happen to have space at your table for one more, would you?”
Tumblr media
For a moment, there wasn’t much the other could do beyond staring--mouth slightly agape, hands holding the gifted breadstick like a foreign body--and watching the scene unfold. Soon enough, his eyes locked with his impromptu lunching companion.
“N-no, not at all. I mean yes. There’s space, and it looks like I’ll be ordering something else anyway.”
His hand drifted to gesture towards what would’ve been his food, having found a new home on the floor. It seemed like fate really didn’t favour the knight treating himself to a light lunch. Trying to tilt the table back for himself, shock had turned into a slight scowl through the furniture. The prying eyes of waiting staff and other customers were met with gestures, apologies and insistence everything was fine, covering the check was fine.
“Please tell me you don’t consider this a date,” he spoke, sitting down once more. “I can tell you now, it isn’t going fantastically.” Narrowed eyes suggested annoyance, but his tone of voice didn’t reflect that at all. If anything it sounded humoured, finally seeing the funny side of all this. “I’ll have to give you points for the flashy entrance, though. Mind if I ask what happened there?
--We’re going halves on the check, by the way. Don’t get your hopes up.”

felsiic:
Whit blinked at the knife against his throat and let out a sigh.  It just never could be all that simple could it?  At this point if he got stabbed in the throat he’d probably thank whoever this stranger threatening him was.  And what was he talking about paranoia for?  Whit was a simple man on a mission, not some wayward assassin come to take this guys life.  Actually, he was a bit familiar but Whit couldn’t place it.
He gently pushed the knife away from his throat and coughed into his hand.  “Um, well, this is very embarrassing to admit but I suppose since I’m going to be stabbed if I don’t reveal myself then I might as well tell you.  I’m from Acirus and one of my soldiers deserted.  So, as the second and thus more expendable commander I’m supposed to be hunting him down and bringing him back.  I’ve been trying to do it discreetly so that people don’t panic thinking some wild Acriusian is going to go after them in the middle of the night or something.  If anything the guy just came here to get a beer and not get caught.”
Whit stood up and brushed off the butt of his pants.  “I think he deserted because I told him he needed to train four times a week instead of two.  He wasn’t a particularly good foot soldier.  If I were him I would’ve ditched too, because who the hell wants to spend half their week chopping at wood and straw dummies for hours and hours.  Not me, that’s for sure.  But I already did my time so now he has to do his.”  He placed his hands on his hips, realizing he’d been rambling.
Tumblr media
“Uh, anyway, is that a enough explanation for you or do I need to give you my backstory as well?  It’s quite tragic and definitely worthy of a feature length film, but that’s irrelevant right now I think.”
Selen’s expression as the knife was pushed away was damning. He’d ungracefully leapt to conclusions. Oh dear.
Tumblr media
“...You’re not following me specifically, then?” Slowly and shamefully, he came to his feet and rolled his shoulders back in relief “I am so sorry... it’s been a long night, and I can admit I’m a little antsier than I’d like to be.” While he fumbled to put his weapon back in its place, the knight considered Whit’s words. “Acirus... I thought I recognised you. Second commander, right? I think I saw you before a meeting. Carmi--his majesty, he talked about you a lot after it.” More specifically, how similar himself and Whit looked. Just because they both had white hair... the king still found a way to make the comparison endearing.
He refrained from commenting on the Acriusian’s thoughts on desertion beyond a few vague nods. Selen had thoughts of his own on he matter, but Whit had a job to do. Finger teasing at his bottom lip, it lowered as he took a small step towards the other.
“Maybe you can tell me all about that tragic backstory while we look for this guy together. I know it’s not as discrete, but two heads are better than one... and I need a way to apologise for holding you up at knifepoint. Again, sorry about that. Really.”

diimidium:
she disliked being the reason for someones worry. of course, she has been that reason many times since coming to the land. mainly due to the fact that she is not a fighter, nor if she very strong. despite trying to stay out of trouble, valentina has found herself finding trouble quiet often. either by getting herself into a sticky situation, or getting hurt. case in point, what happened just now.
and though she is happy to see selen, both because she has wanted to get to know the other better and because she won’t have to deal with this alone,  she can’t help but feel bad for making him worry. she should be able to handle this one her own, yet…
Tumblr media
regardless, what happened has happened. and now is the time to move past that and hopefully get better. she would simply just have to listen to selen and do as he says. the other seems much more capable than she has ever been, “a bit of cloth…?” she replied, removing her bag from her back to ruffle around in it.
“ would this work?” she asked, holding out the bandanna she;s had for a while now but never used.
The knight’s expression is elated as he gently takes that bandanna.  “Oh, that’s… perfect!” He gives the item a good feel, taking off one of his gloves. Really, this would’ve been a little easier if he had some water he could damp it in, but the environment didn’t seem to favour that. Asking Valentina for help didn’t occur to him, either. Whoops.
Slowly, ice crystals start to form around the scrunched up bandanna’s edge, and a reddened hand moves to press the frozen cloth against the girl’s ankle. “This might help a little… don’t tell anyone about this, though, please. It’s not something I like doing.”
Tumblr media
A weary smile flashes at Val, hoping it’d brush off the current topic. “Alright, how are you feeling?”
+ poor luck

Her hand lifts to give a small wave, dismissing the notion of praise. “Perhaps we should spar more evenly? I fear I put you at a great disadvantage given my towering shield is close to impenetrable.” The hand curls into a fist and bangs upon the shield’s front as if to prove her point before the Paladin moved aside to set it and her blade down.
“How well versed are you in hand to hand combat, Selen?” Her head slowly tilts aside, gaze holding a curious tinge to it before she grins and brings her fists up; Stance defensive and knee’s bent. “I would not worry about being out of training. I find that wielding a sword is like riding a bike; You never truly forget even if your muscles do protest the first few rides around-… I am sure you will pick up combat again in no time, my friend.”
Tumblr media
Rather than reaffirming the proposal verbally, Selen takes to nodding. She was right—although he can’t help but smirk as fists clangs against metal once more. “Hand to hand?” There was a notion he wasn’t expecting, but his smirk remains. “Not that I want to blow my own trumpet or anything, but it was one of my better areas back when I was training.”
Brushing a few stray hairs from his face, fists clench to mirror Kyvaru’s stance while he heeds her words. “All I can say is, I hope you’re right. You’ve evened the field, should make riding a bike through it easier…” Physically wincing at how horrid and nonsensical that joke was, one fist uncurls into a ‘come here!’ gesture.
