Spring break had passed with a blink of an eye, and Rhia already found herself ditching her classes again. She could recognize she was slipping into some sort of slump, one where her impulses were becoming increasingly more problematic yet tempestuous. She had absolutely no plans for the day, which made her suspect something glorious was coming as a knock sounded at her door.

Regardless of her rising suspicion, Rhia wouldn’t have guessed she’d open the door to see Liam’s face. She let out an audible gasp, and her hand clutched the door for dear life as she took in the sight of him, his tousled curls and the peculiar cake he held in his hands. In all honesty, she hadn’t expected to ever see Liam again, not that she could blame him…. Luxor was a rough place, and part of her had been happy that he’d managed to escape the clutches of the Unhinged. A more selfish part of her, however, couldn’t help but feel hurt and even worried when Liam had randomly disappeared out of the door and began dodging her calls.

His assertion deepened the crack already formed across her heart, and Rhia’s chest heaved as she but back the tears swelling in her eyes. “Liam,” she pouted, the one word expressing every ounce of melancholy and disbelief she’d never be able to put into words. Was he doing this for her birthday? And what did he mean about rushing back. She gingerly took the cake from his hands, and she laughed at how Liam-esque the whole gesture seemed. “Thank you, it’s so beautiful,” she enthused, smiling ear to ear. She couldn’t understand her sadness as she looked at Liam, seeing him practically beam at her. “I love the thought. You have so many awesome thoughts, I can’t believe you even remembered.” Rhia hooked her arm around the boy’s neck, pulling him into a tight hug to plant kisses along his cheeks as she held the cake away from their bodies. “Where have you been, baby?” she whimpered only a moment later. “I missed you.”

He’d thought about her. Because of course he had. How could he not? It wasn’t like it was weird or strange for him to think about Rhia? He’d done it while he was in school, but during his stay at rehab he thought about her a lot. Maybe a little more often than he even cared to admit to himself. And though he knew the reality was that they weren’t going to let him go he had to try. There’d even been a moment, however brief that he wondered if perhaps sobriety would always be like this for him. Missing someone. 

Seeing her now brought with it a sense of ease. Like her presence came with it’s own high that he’d been missing out on while he’d been away. The counselors had done a number on talking about the dangers of substances he used, but never said a word about some people could be just as alluring. When she wrapped her arm around him, he welcomed her. Using both arms to wrap around her waist as he held her against him. “I knew it! I know you’d like it.” He said with a child like excitement as he leaned into her to allow all the kisses to his cheek and the questions that followed. 

“Of course I remembered. I would have been here to celebrate with you on the right day... February 27th.. But I’d gotten in a little bit of trouble.” He said as he made a point of taking his turn to return the kisses to her cheek. Inside him, two wolves. One that wanted the cake to disappear so he could hold her properly, and the other that appreciated the confirmation it gave him. Rhia definitely smelled better than cake. “I kinda got in trouble a while back and these really mean nurses had me shipped off to the land of no fun.” He explained for a moment before reaching out to take the cake from her so he could make a point of setting it on her desk. His patience warn thin as he lifted her into a proper hug. One where he could burry his face against her neck and cling to her like he’d wanted to do for oh so long now. “I missed you too babes. They’ll never catch me again.”

Sav raised an eyebrow at Liam, her lips pressing together as she tried to keep her face serious while he debated the answer, endlessly amused by his seriousness as he tried to figure out his answer. “Also would have to go with the acid,” she mused as she crossed her lips in front of her chest, considering for a moment. “I feel like some people would totally just need to get coked out to actually jump though, you know?” she said, tilting her head to one side before motioning for Liam to continue with his question, a small noise of surprise, or maybe protest, following the words. “Easy,” she said, dramatically pouting at Liam as she rolled her eyes. “Would have to be barred out to get through an actual wedding with my family, and Marcello’s is even worse from the sound of it. Plus it’s not like he’d complain. Unless I didn’t tell him that was the plan first,” she added, not even realizing the utter casualness she mentioned marrying Marcello with. “Give up stimulants or give up hallucinogens?”

Liam nodded, the smile on his face growing as she agreed with him. “knew I liked you.” He teased as he leaned back and thought about whether or not he’d need the boost, but deciding against it. “I think... Maybe if I was more afraid the coke could probably help. But that’s the thing. I’m not scared of a damn thing!” The cheekiness in his tone was evident as he waited for her turn to answer the question. She assured him it was easy which he should have been expecting but found himself excited for her reasoning never-the-less. “Damn you right. That was an easy one. I can picture that. The two of you just on another level. That’s that true love shit.” Liam teased again for only a moment before groaning. “Ugh giving one up? That sounds terrible. Why live in a land of or when and is such a beautiful concept you know?” He continued, this time making a point to dump the box back to pour some of his snacks into his mouth. “Speaking of which.. pass me my backpack. I feel like my afternoon buzz needs a pick me up.” He whined, as he turned over from where he was laying with his feet dangling off the side of the chair. “But uh if I had to choose I’d probably give up stimulants. I’m on a quest to take enough hallucinogens that I break through to another world and I don’t know that stimulants are going to get me there. I need the creativity.” He explained as he plucked a joint from behind his ear as though he’d forgotten it was there and set it between his teeth. “Alright maybe this will be tougher. Would you rather take 5 grams of shrooms and have a long talk with your parents about your future, or go to court immediately after smoking a really fat dab?”

“I am pretty sure people are fucking in that classroom,” Nikki declared, listening at the closed door of what she had thought was an empty classroom. Based on the moans and other noises coming out of there, clearly she had been wrong. “Which do you think it is? Teachers or students?”

Liam wasn’t one for going to class often. Really he did it just enough to sort of maintain his grades and not be totally thrown out of school but every once in a while the world rewarded him for trying with moments like this. “Some people really are shameless.” He announced, as though this was absolutely not something he would do. “I’m betting it’s probably students but I’m really hoping it’s teachers. That’d just be so much better.”

“Day three of Luxor. I suspect my dorm room is haunted by an angry ghost. Also,” Ethan took a sip of orange juice, “the cafeteria is out of coffee. This college education thing is really riveting.”

“An angry ghost you say? What kind of ghost?” Liam’s curiosity clearly peaked after his own visit from pre-Spring Break. Not that it happened often. And perhaps may have had something to do with the drugs he was on, but a ghost was a ghost. “Early bird gets the bean juice my friend. Gotta be quick.”

sophie cleared her throat as she approached the other, a blush evident on her cheeks, “so this is super awkward…but i’m playing truth or dare with my friends and i was just dared to kiss you…” the blush was spreading, cheeks red now but thankfully the dim lighting didn’t reveal it all completely, “do you uh…think that’d be okay? if i kissed you?”

It hadn’t taken long by any means for him to fall back off the wagon. They’d dropped him off right back in the middle of Spring Break and already he’d found himself back at the club up to his usual shit. A cocktail of substances making his head feel light and his body feel like it was floating on top of a marshmallow as a joint hung loosely from his lips. His junkie chic really coming out in the dully lit club. It took a moment for his eyes to focus, for him to bring it together enough to register that she was talking to him as he sat up and blew a smoke ring opposite her direction. “S’long as you don’t expect me to remember your name I think that’d be fine.” He teased with a subtle grin.

Andromeda kneeled down placing her book back in her bag and closing it. “Trying to get me alone now Liam?” she chuckled, joking of course. “I was out here to sunbathe not swim, but I won’t lie. The sounds of the water are relaxing. But If we’re getting in…. I would prefer the pools to ocean.” she said to him. “Don’t worry I’m a strong swimmer I’ll save you.” she rolled her eyes with a giggle before nodding for him to lead the way.

Liam wore a coy smile at the suggestion that he might be trying to get her alone. He certainly didn’t hate the idea. Although that felt like the wrong thing to say. “See I don’t understand the difference. How can you sun bathe if you’re not in the water. Sun plus water equals sun bath.” He mused a little too proud of himself. He wasn’t sure why but it threw him off that hse preferred the pools but he was open to it. “Pools it is then. What are we waiting for?”

Rehab had been a trip to say the least. It wasn’t like he’d meant to end up there, but one bad trip to the ER led him down a one way trip to inpatient services. He’d tried to explain to them the importance of getting out for Rhia’s birthday, but they kept reminding him of the importance of his health and the importance sobriety played in it and clearly didn’t understand where his priorities lay.  So he played the role. Did what they told him to do, followed their rules. Stayed clean no matter how painful it was and got himself back out right at the end of Spring Break. Barely enough time to plan anything special so he waited until they were back on campus to plan his surprise. Surprise which consisted of a small pink cake with a number 1 candle in it (that he assumed meant she was number 1), and a cheesy grin on his face as he stood outside of her door. 

“I’m sorry I missed the real thing but I’m here now and I got here as fast as I could!” He announced when the door opened up. “I promise the cake isn’t that old either. I just got this because that probably would have been gross but I thought maybe the thought would count.”

“Shake it?” Ruby gave him a somewhat questioning look. “I didn’t see anything about shaking in the manual,” she added warily, her approach to technology slightly more cautious than Liam’s…. apparently. “Do you think … maybe googling it before resorting to shaking …. might help? Not that,” she said hastily, “I’m doubting you. At all.”

Liam nodded his head at her question with a certainty like she’d asked him the color of the sky. Despite knowing he had little to no knowledge about what he was talking about as he continued to examine the camera. “I mean I guess google works too. What exactly are you trying to make it do?” He asked, as he curiously put it up to his eye to see what he could see from it. “I’m assuming just pushing all the buttons hasn’t been helpful either?”

Andie was happy that things hadn’t changed too much between her and Liam. They hadn’t really hung out as much as they used to, but that was okay with her. As long as he wasn’t upset with her. Andromeda bit her lip as she looked out at the water. There weren’t a lot of people around and Liam was one of the few people to actually have seen Andie. She looked down, finishing the page she was reading before placing her marker in it. “fine. BUT if it starts getting crowded I’m getting out.” she sighed holding her hand out for him to help her up.

Liam smiled widely, offering her the cheekiest grin he could muster as he watched her make a decision on whether or not she was going to follow him in. Deciding of his own merit that if she did, things weren’t as awkward as he was hoping they wouldn’t be. It wasn’t like he’d been avoiding her on purpose. Hard to avoid anyone when you’re on no contact for at least 30 days. “Crowded equals exit. Understood. Isn’t that what the little private pool areas are for. Just gotta think bigger.” Liam hummed as he reached for her hand, pausing for a moment before using it to help pull her to her feet.  “We’re doing this sans floaties so we’ll see how this goes!”

“I know we’re on spring break but I took mind early being gone a month. So go. Have fun. Call me if you get to wasted. I’ll be here catching up on my reading.” she smiled as she laid out in the sun, textbook in her lap. She went to start reading again. After a few moments of them still standing there she sighed. “you’re not gonna let me study are you?” she asked. 

The last month had all felt like a blur. He felt like he’d missed the majority of Andie’s time back and that was really his own fault. Getting in trouble and getting shipped off to rehab was a consequence of his own stupidity. Not like it was going to stick but he appreciated the school’s effort in taking care of him. Still it meant that precious time had been wasted and he wasn’t intending on letting her waste more of it. “Andie what if I get in the water and forget how to swim. How are you gonna get there in time to save me?”

I have already tried all three restaurants and I can’t decide which is my favorite,” Kenzie declared, swallowing the last of her meal before she spoke. “It’s official. I love this place. I want to stay forever. Who needs an education when you can live in paradise like this?”

Liam wasn’t usually a big munchies guy. And that didn’t change just because they were in paradise, but whatever Kenzie was finishing off her plate did have his stomach growling as he leaned back in his seat. “You’ve already tried all three?” He asked fully impressed as his fingers drummed against the table. Liam couldn’t honestly recall how he’d gotten to the restaurant in the first place, but once he was there he decided to make himself at home across from her. “Personally I feel that way all the time. But whatever you’re eating smells good. How do I get some?”

“I don’t suppose you’re any good with cameras?” Ruby gave a hopeful look in the other student’s direction. “I promised my dad I’d stop studying long enough to take some pictures of the resort, but the instruction manual really didn’t account for this… oh well, I suppose I’ll just have to ditch it and go back to reading?”

Liam and technology had a mixed relationship. On the one hand, he could figure out his phone (sort of), or his laptop (sort of), or sometimes the amp that came with the guitars in the music room (sort of) but a camera seemed tough. Seemed like the kind of thing he just wasn’t going to be good at. And yet here he was ready to try his damndest. “Here let me see it. How hard can it possibly be. Maybe you just have to shake it a little.”

Bowie placed the pill on his tongue, the film that covered the tablet already melting against the warmth of his mouth. It was bitter, but he knew that it was a small price to pay for the colorful fog that would overtake him soon. He went to close his mouth, but the growing crowd on the corner of the street moved violently as drunken nightcrawlers made their way around. His teeth sank into his tongue, warm swelling in his mouth with pain. The pill fell in a silent clatter to the floor, but the fuck! that came out of Bowie’s mouth was clear against the clamor of upset bystanders.

“For fuck’s sake!” He scoffed, spatting to the sidewalk where bright red stained concrete. “When did crazy and stupid become one?”

Being attentive was a skill. At least that much Liam was certain of and there were very few things he truly considered himself to be attentive of. The giant crowd moving around down the street may as well have been lost to him as he twirled the small tablet between his fingers, ready for the actual best part of the night to begin. He’d all but only just set it on his tongue when he watched the other somehow fuck up keeping it in his mouth in a spectacular fashion. 

“Shit luck man.” The brunette mused as he patted his pockets for the rest of his stash. “You want mine?” He offered, sticking his tongue out with the pill still pressed against it. He was mostly joking but it wouldn’t be the first time. “Sometime around the turn of the century. Or just whenever the hell we want.”

Liam and Sav were supposed to be studying. Key word - supposed. They may have done the difficult part of getting themselves to the library, but even though they were there, materials for their French test coming up sprawled around them, they weren’t getting much work done. Instead, they were playing increasing ludicrous questions, having already devolved into laughter that had required them to be shushed once. “Okay, okay,” Sav said, her expression turning serious as she tried to think of another question, though that didn’t last before she was holding back another giggle. “Would you rather skydive after taking a tab of acid, or after just railing as many lines as you can on the flight up?”

Liam shot a glaring look after the person who’d shushed them, almost mocking as he leaned back in his seat and tossed a cheez it up so that it’d land in his mouth. “Alright shoot.” He mused readily, eyes looking at her like he was daring her for something challenging. Sav as usual tickling his expectations with her exciting prospects. He tried to picture the experience of each, closing his eyes and letting his hands make a flowy motion like he was free falling on the acid, followed by a pause as he let himself think about the high he’d get from the coke. “FUCK! Okay that was a good one. I think I’m gonna have to go with the acid. Only because I can only imagine how fucky the earth is gonna look and like the insane mix of fast and slow? There’d be nothing like it.” He exclaimed excitedly finger drumming to line up his next question. “Would you rather give a eulogy for your best friend on 400mg of mescaline oooor attend your wedding barred out half bottle deep?”

“thanks for helping me with my bags.” Andromeda smiled as the person grabbed another suitcase. She’d left without a word to anyone a month to go handle some stuff with her aunt. She done what she could online to keep up with class work and part of her even considered not coming back after all the chaos with the unhinged had happened. But at the end of the day not even an ivy league could give her the opportunities a Luxor degree could. so here she was back again.

Liam had learned pretty early on to get used to when people disappeared from his life. To expect it even to a degree. People weren’t forever. Good things didn’t stay. All that jazz. But the coming back was new to him. Andie hadn’t said a word when she’d left and now all of a sudden had made a resurgence he hadn’t expected. When he initially saw her bringing her things in, he contemplated running in the opposite direction. He wasn’t sure why. Andie was his friend. Maybe it’d been about the way she’d found him in the streets. Or perhaps recalling her anger from the night of Jack’s party. But his feet couldn’t carry him fast enough and instead he found himself doing the exact opposite. “It’s not a problem.” He said as he handed off the one he’d somehow found himself carrying. “It’s really good to see you.”
