I like how movie Tails has his perspective on his specific Sonic solely because he lives with him 24/7. It's cute cause he was all like super Sonic fanboy numero uno in Sonic 2 and then a few months together he's like my brother is a danger to himself. Obviously, he still loves and respects him but it's so funny with him in the background rolling his eyes, scolding him, and going "What did you do?", like it is a regular that Sonic gets in trouble (he does). I see you Tails that had to grow up too fast, I see you.

Our baby fox still has a lot of trauma🥺💔He needs lots of hugs and lots of words of affirmation from his parents and siblings!

I read the novelization of Sonic movie 3 the other day, and while I was sad it didn't go all the way through the whole film, y'all I LOST MY MINDDDD

Here's some stuff it had:

Shadow feeling achy and sore after he was woken up and trying to understand why, wondering how long he was asleep

Maria being said to be "barely taller than Shadow"

Maria made drawings for Shadow and put them on the walls of the lab

A missing flashback scene where Shadow had a betrayal of trust moment from Walters BEFORE the incident, when he overheard a conversation between some adults at the lab. Initially they were complaining about Maria being there, saying her drawings were cluttering up the place and that she didn't belong because she was a child. Walters said that she kept Shadow entertained or neutralized or something, something that made Shadow sound like some kind of feral beast and completely undermined and disrespected their friendship. Then Walters noticed Shadow eavesdropping and tried to address him but Shadow ran off, hurt

Dozens of both narrative and dialogue moments of the Wachowskis referring to each other as "their kids," "parents," "brothers," etc., including a narrative moment of Knuckles thinking of the Wachowskis as "his family"

In a dialogue to Maddie, Tom outright referred to Sonic as "our adopted alien son"

Tails having anxiety about the chaos and mess he and the others tended to bring to the Wachowski home, his worrying that he would be too much, that it would make Tom and Maddie want them to leave

Maddie telling the boys that she and Tom loved them no matter what

Tom having a proud dad moment while listening to the boys resolve an argument on their own, thinking happily that they are becoming "kind brothers"

Sonic initially refusing to go with G.U.N. without Tom and Maddie, until the parents assure them that they trust him and the others to be safe

During the argument over the Master Emerald, Sonic was furious but also in actual tears

He was going after Shadow with the literal mindset of "avenging his father" (that's exactly what it says)

No one ever talks about Sonic and Knuckles' friendship, which sucks because it could be so juicy.

They are best friends, they are rivals (Sonic's first real rival in my opinion), they aren't brothers like Sonic and Tails are but they are BROS. They talk to each other in taunts almost exclusively, Sonic is the first friend Knuckles has that's his age and the person that inspired him to explore outside his island. Knuckles' is one of Sonic's most reliable friends and is one of the few people he actively seeks out. They LOVE sparring with each other.

I also can't help but think about the influence they'd have on each other, like, magically. Knuckles is the guardian of the Master Emerald and has a psychic connection to it, it gives him certain abilities, Sonic is soaked in chaos energy from his repeated use of the chaos emeralds and also just from what he is (I'm sure he is just naturally full of chaos energy). Just, I think they cancel each other out, I think Knuckles has neutralizing energy like the ME, he should be able to grab Sonic mid spin-dash. Not stop him, (unstoppable force, immovable object) but grab him. Sonic walks up to Knuckles after a fight and immediately becomes calmer and chiller, all that left over chaos energy is gone. Knuckles calls Sonic over before he goes to hang out with someone and they wrestle for a bit so Knuckles can suck up some sweet sweet energy before going out. They make me insane.

I really love how casually Tom refers to Sonic as “kid” for the first time here before Tom is absolutely slammed by the truth of that word.

The scenes in the bar and motel leading up to this do a great job of emphasizing how young Sonic is (the adult bar especially contrasts Sonic’s childish curiosity and antics). And as Tom and Sonic bond, we see Tom realizing how human Sonic is despite his not-so-human appearance and abilities… Tom already knows Sonic is a child, but I think the gravity of that truth really hits him when he turns and sees Sonic sleeping like this. Or rather, I think this is the moment Tom is forced to acknowledge the deeper implications of what Sonic being a child — almost no different than any other child in the world — means.

Sonic is a child. A child that has been on his own, it seems, for a long time. Tom doesn’t know where Sonic’s from, why he’s on his own. Sonic’s clearly taught himself a lot about the world, but there’s still a lot that he doesn’t know. (The kid wasn’t sure what a bucket list was or even how to use an ice pack, it seems, until about five minutes ago.) And he doesn’t have anyone to teach him. There’s no one guiding him, watching him. Running after him when he does something reckless (like, you know, trying to sneak into a bar not only as an alien and a fugitive but as a minor). Sonic doesn’t have anyone looking out for him... except Tom. And if Sonic’s telling the truth about this Mushroom Planet, he’s a child that will be on his own again when this road trip is over.

That’s a lot to reckon with. And up to this point, Tom has kind of been doing his best to ignore All That… Notice right before this how Tom cuts the convo/suggests bedtime when Sonic begins musing about maybe being able to stay on Earth. Because if Sonic stays, what does that mean for Tom? Does he have a responsibility to step in as this child’s guardian? Is that something he can even do? He’s never had kids. He’s definitely never had superpowered alien kids. He doesn’t know what he’s doing. What would Maddie think? And what about San Francisco? What about his plans?

But Sonic needs somebody to rely on, and there’s a rapidly growing part of Tom that wants to be that person. A part that, again, he's trying not to acknowledge. Because it's kinda scary, right? These feelings are so unexpected, the potential responsibility is intimidating, and he's kind of in denial. He's torn between being Sonic's hero, friend (and father figure), the Donut Lord, or finally becoming that big-shot cop in San Fran.

That inner conflict is reflected visually here. Tom tucks Sonic in, watches him fondly, and notices “Make a Real Friend” is the only thing not crossed off on Sonic’s bucket list. (Despite their bonding in the bar, Sonic still isn’t sure where they stand; they’re in this awkward spot between acquaintances and friends because Tom is reluctant to verbally admit he cares.) And then the TV pulls Tom’s attention away from Sonic, the newscast talking about how Tom has become a wanted criminal — a literal reminder of how much Tom is risking to help Sonic. His career. His future. His life. Is Tom doing the right thing?

He’s saving a life, helping someone in need — of course that’s the right thing. But… is Tom doing the right thing by helping Sonic leave Earth knowing Sonic will be alone and miserable again, or is Tom trying to avoid his feelings? What does Tom want, really? A day ago, the answers seemed so obvious. And now… everything is different.

Also, totally unrelated, it is so funny that Tom turns the lamp off knocked over like that lmao

I'm a big fan of Tails angst, but not really physical angst like him getting hurt or killed, I like emotional angst involving Tails. I like Tails experiencing tragedy. I like thinking about Tails crying and his head going to very dark places.

I think Tails has a ton of untapped potential for super emotional heart wrenching storytelling, he's a messed up little dude who's gone through a lot of pain that most official Sonic media seem to just want to gloss over at every opportunity.

I want Tails to cry more, I want him to be competent again but I also want him to be more vulnerable. I WANT HIM TO BE DEPRESSED AND COOL AND CUTE ALL AT THE SAME TIME!
