Crunch gnaw pop.
The sound of a feast; its extravagance echoing through the dark green cave walls, under the stalactites and over the stalagmites.
Scrape scrape gnaw.
The sickly-sweet spittle was her fine wine, the hardened chunks of fat her aged cheese, the shards of bone her crackers. The glow of wandering spirits substituted the mirth, cool blue light blinding her eyes as they passed. Kisume hardly felt the chill making her fingers ache; she could not feel the tip of her nose any more. Creating fire took energy, which needed to be dedicated to the task at hand.
Pop scrape crunch.
Delicious.

[[PROMPTS. JUST HANDIN' 'EM OUT!]] Objects falling from high places are very dangerous, right? But there's a limit, when underground, of how high you can drop from, so Kisume is at a bit of an impasse. Her hunts have been less than successful of late, so it's time to reconsider her tactics. Maybe it's the bucket its self that isn't dangerous enough? Maybe tie the machete to the outside, or something? I dunno. Go nuts, little well spirit.
The following passages are excerpts from the research journal of an unnamed oni residing in the Former Capital in the underground.
For several months, I have been quietly observing a primitive youkai that resides past the hashihime’s bridge, not very far from the exit of the cave system. I’ve yet to see any records on her species in the distastefully small resident library (possibly for the sake of making more room for bars; disgusting if you ask me.)
The youkai (who I shall refer to as “Bucket”, because, well, she resides in a bucket) seems to be exceedingly weak, as she prefers to avoid confrontation from passerby. Those whom she has decided to ambush can more often than not fend her off with minor inconvenience.
Today, Bucket has decided to try something different! I have caught her setting up a primitive trap involving a sizable basket, a bone, a stalagmite, and a string, likely meant for small animals or naive fairies. Unfortunately, before any prey could come along, Bucket burst into tears and collected the basket and her bone, and began to gnaw on the latter.
I felt guilty enough to brave the my fellow species of drunkards and purchase a beef skewer. She was absolutely delighted, and began to eat right away. I would bring her regular meals, if it wouldn’t disturb her everyday routine of hunting. Wouldn’t want to endanger a species.

Oh yes, humans, those delicious, squishy things. One couldn't go wrong when dining on a human, even if they were the bigger ones. That just meant a satisfied stomach for a longer time.
"Nah," Kisume answered, slowly removing her arm from her face and squinting her eyes. Her skin was itchy. Surface air was too dry.
"Humans are yummy. It feels good to catch them, cause they think. Oh, animals're good, too!' She added quickly, not wanting to displease Wendy. Social conduct wasn't Kisume's strong suit, but one shouldn't insult an outwardly "kind" soul for providing the best meal one had had in years.
"Oh, oh!" The tsurube-otoshi's pale arms sprang into the air. "There were scary humans that beat me up for trying to eat them. There's the red one, and the black and white one." Her pigtails swayed as she shook her head. "I dinnt like them. They were mean."
Ah, still a little sick. Understandable; she had, after all, only gorged herself on a stomach that had been very empty for very long.
Wendy had let her eat. She ate and ate, filling her belly so it’d empty and she’d eat like a queen all over. She didn’t have it in her to make her stop or slow down, even if it was a waste.
It was getting cooler out. Wendy had eaten, too, but the ache of hunger gradually resurfaced. She was sure now that it would never go away. It was only fitting, really.
"I wanted to discuss something serious. A vision of mine."
A few seconds of silence. White emptiness drifted this way and that, focusing out either red-speckled bony eye socket. A pale white spectre drifted about almost in unison nearby, long ago summoned with the first deaths as a result of their hunting spree. Abigail was actually quite convenient for these things.
"Do you fear humans?"

Delicious food! Not human food, but animal food, which is still food. After some time to relax with that nice full bucket belly, Wendy waited until the sleeping bucket creature in her lap woke up from her nap. Full belly, warm sunlight...what a life. "She awakens. Did you rest well, little one?"
It was very bright.
Kisume had yet to adjust her wide, green orbs to the sunlight; what a foreign concept, sunlight. The little youkai had begun to forget the gentle warmth and harsh light for the dank and dark caves she branded as her home.
Her belly had turned over during the first few animals— such a delicious bounty was much too incredible to savor with her hollow innards. In fact, it was too much to scarf down as well, but, forgetting all manners, Kisume devoured it all again along with the wilting autumn grass.
Ah, the feral beauty of a youkai.
Scary Thing was kind, not too unlike Meat Lady. Kisume already loved her very much, a childish sentiment whose requirements were very few.
The bucket youkai shielded her eyes with one sleeve, the other stained far too much with blood. She would rather not risk another wave of nausea.
"Mhm," She mumbled, grinding her teeth. There was a pleasant, crisp smell from somewhere (a breeze to those familiar with living on the surface). "I feel icky. Th’ food was good. What’re we gonna do now? I’m still full."
A heartwarming scene.

if you had to choose would you prefer animal meat or yummy human meat
With a gleam in her eye, and tongue over her teeth, Kisume cried out, "Human meat! So tender and juicy..."

An unnatural occurrence; two beasts of prey, one worse off than the other, the stronger of them offering assistance. A warning bell should have been shrieking in Kisume's little head, how inherently wrong the entire situation was.
The smell of blood in her nostrils was like the smell of a fresh can of booze to a drunkard.
She squinted at the fangs, similar to her own, and a though of "We are the same." bubbled up in her brain, one that should not have been comforting.
A dribble of saliva dripped down Kisume's pale lips, and, slowly, in a near-forgotten gesture, she nodded. Hunting meant food, and food meant ceasing the ache in her belly. The small youkai's tongue swiped over her teeth.
"Does that mean," She rasped. "we'll go... up?" Her voice was dusty and misused; Yamame had vanished from the caves without a trace, leaving nobody to converse with. Normally, she would have run, the land of Gensokyo above her home didn't hold her interest, and yet...
...the familiar stranger's offer felt promising.
Food is a wonderful, amazing, simple little thing.
Everything hungers. Everything wants to eat. Everything wants to live. Everything thinks of itself. Everything, everywhere, is self-centered down to its very core, and that is its ultimate goal. Everything wants to live.
Crouching down before the little bucket creature that seemed distantly familiar somehow, head tilted enough to meet the creature’s gaze while it kind of opened its mouth at her expectantly, Wendy pondered about food. Food was good motivation. She was always hungry, hungry things were always hungry and always wanted food. Food would make wonderful payment. Food was a goal. Food was control.
To motivate something with a promise of food…that was perfect, wasn’t it? Something that was always wanted and would always be needed. And here, this one had trouble getting it. It’d always be hungry. It needed, and would need forever. It would endebt itself without a second of consideration to fill its belly, even if its belly would empty again.
Food would make a fantastic control mechanism.
And while the gears in Wendy’s head slowly turned, bits and pieces of information that had been slowly gathering from the sights and sounds and facts from surveying this land called Gensokyo, an invisible smile worked its way across Wendy’s lips. Fangs became faintly visible as her lips pulled back, unseen unless viewed from an angle.
"Would you like to go hunting with me, little one?"
Slowly, ever so very slowly, the primordial beginnings of a plan began to construct itself in the brain sheltered beneath a pair of skulls.
Her legacy began here, with this starving bucket creature at the mouth of Hell. This is where it began.
An amazing thing, food.

Bucket looks up at Kisume. "I am sorry dear friend, it just will not work out bettween us. I suggest we split up before we hurt one another even more."
"But bucket, we're one and the same!" Oh dear, look at those fat tears rolling down her cheeks. "Where will I put all my stuff if you go?! Are you gonna take everything with you? I want my bones! I need 'em! My belly feels emptier if I don't chew on 'em!! Don' go, puh-please!"

How long can you survive not being in your bucket?
"That's a dumb question. I can't. I can go into other stuff if it's big enough, but I always gotta come back to my bucket, 'cause it's mine and nobody else's."

Note
who is your favorite person?
"Yamame," She answered plainly, removing the stripped-clean femur from her maw. "she's my very, very, favorite! I thought I said that to some spirit already."

So we heard you like bones. Well, Wendy has a thing for bones too, specifically because she is wearing one. And she's staring at you. With one eye. Cuz, yknow, deer anatomy. "And how can we win, when buckets can live?" A pause, and a frown. No, that wasn't a good one. Might need to think about that one. She'd come up with something good. Also, hi bucket thing.
Scary thing. Bones, blood. Blood means meat. She has meat. Also looks familiar. Meat lady? She said a thing that meat lady would have probably said. No, meat lady isn't scary, she's creepy. Thing is scary. Maybe the scary thing will give Kisume something to eat?
Kisume propped her chin on the rim of her bucket and opened her mouth-- what a lovely row of fangs! --and waited for some sort of reaction from the scary thing. Hopefully food.

*Pats the Kisume.*
Kisume let out a shrill scream; Cirno was awfully cold to the touch after all! When confronted with someone that she would like to cut off contact with, Kisume had several options: a) retaliate, b) hide, or c) roll off. And so, picking answer c, Kisume toppled to her side, and, quickly as she could, rolled away. Godspeed, little youkai, godspeed.
