Today we went to Dover Market Street. It was so cool. Personally, I love concept stores and I think Dover was one of the best I’ve been to. They did a great job with it and the workers were really friendly. It was also cool to see how this compared to Bergdof Goodmans and Barney’s. I really enjoyed this tour and want to go back before I leave the city.

We went to Berdof Goodman’s and Barney’s this week. I have been here a few times since living in NY and I love it here.

Today we went to Doneger. I had already been here before for my fashion forecasting class, but this presentation was better than last time to me. The woman who spoke was the fashion director and she was very knowledgeable in the field and what she was talking about. I enjoyed hearing her experiences and seeing what Doneger does. I think they’re a fascinating company and I enjoyed this tour.

Today we went to Jettco International. This was the most inspiring tour for me so far. The owner of the company, Vince, was so insightful and genuine. He gave great tips for designers and students in the industry and he was so honest about it. It was a great visit and I’m grateful we went.

Today we went to Bishop Collective, my professor’s store. I have to say I really loved it. I was so impressed by the creativity and how unique it was, and I loved that every designer and piece had a story behind it. It was great to hear from my teacher about how to run a business since that is exactly what I want to do one day.

Today went to the Museum at FIT. This tour was okay. I didn’t love it just because I wasn’t that interested in the pieces and I don’t really like museums too much. Also it was my second time here- I just went a few weeks ago in my fashion forecasting class so I had already seen the exhibit. My favorite piece from the galley was probably the Chanel jacket that was blue and sparkly, or one of Gianni Versace’s dresses. I also loved the two dresses by Givenchy.

Today we went to Custom Fabric Flowers. Before going, I wasn’t too excited about this tour but I have to say I was extremely impressed. The custom detailing and specialization they do is amazing. And it’s rare to find that today. They’re old school and I love that it’s a family buisness that’s lasted four generations so far. At the end of the tour, they gave us all cute little flowers which was really nice. I loved this experience and I’m happy we went.

I had the amazing opportunity, through my internship, to work the tradeshow Coterie. Coterie’s one of the biggest tradeshows here in NYC, so I knew it’d be big, but it didn’t expect it to be this big- it was massive. I couldn’t believe how big it was. My internship, Showroom Delfina, represented 8 brands there from the Midwest and northeast region. I was placed at Adelyn Rae- a nice, feminine brand known for their nice dresses and jumpsuits, and I had so much fun. I was the only one from Delfina at the Adelyn Rae booth, but the brand owners were with me and it was super busy for us. I met many buyers, took lots of orders and had a great time. It was great experience.

Today we went to the Marc Jacobs pop up store on Mattison Avenue. This was by far my favorite tour so far. From the moment I stepped into the store (which had the coolest layout and design) all of the employees were so friendly and kind. They were really genuine people, and they were approachable and inclusive. I honestly did not expect that because at some luxury stores I’ve been to, they have been really rude to me. I was already very impressed with their customer service, and then when I went upstairs they provided free coffee and these cute little goodie bags with free makeup samples!! That made the experience for me honestly, and I think that they’re a really smart company. A lot of big names like Marc Jacobs usually have good products and bad service or the other way around, but I have to say- Marc Jacobs had it all. The bags, clothing, accessories, and makeup were all beautiful, but their service and hospitality was even better. It was amazing. My favorite item in the store was the camera shot bag. It was so cute and I love that you can change out the straps. I also loved how Marc incorporated a coffee shop and book section into this popup. I thought that was really smart. I was so impressed and inspired by him, and I love his philosophy and creativity. I wasn’t even a big Marc Jacobs fan before, but after this experience at his pop up, he is one of my favorite designers. I noticed in his collection he’s doing lots of volume, color blocking, pastels (which are my favorite) and he had some pieces hat were inspired by Chanel and Balenciaga which I loved. Lastly, there was a photo booth, which was so fun!! I HIGHLY recommend checking out Marc Jacobs pop up if you can!!

On Tuesday, my class and I were very lucky to be able to attend NYFW! We saw the Turkish Group Fashion Show, at the Industria Superstudios. The show featured four designers- Buket Özkalfalar, Gökhan Íldeniz, Firat Neziroglu, and Ece Kavran. It was a really cool show. I liked the concept and idea behind each designers line, but I didn’t really love the clothing they created. The only one I really liked a lot was the first one, Buket Özkalfalar. I was at another fashion show on Sunday,-- Hakan Akkaya’s Runway Show-- and I liked that one more than this. It seemed a bit more organized and I enjoyed the music and lights more, and the collection itself. This was still a great show and experience though, and I feel very lucky that my classmates and I got to go to NYFW!!

Today I had the amazing opportunity visit Donna Karan’s other collection called Urban Zen. Urban zen is a lifestyle brand that promotes wellness and education on health, wellbeing and culture. Being there really inspired me. I learned a lot and I loved the whole message and meaning behind this line. I’ve always wanted to incorporate health and wellness myself into my own brand one day, because those are very important things to me, so to see her do it in such a creative, beautiful way really motivated and influenced me. For her to do something like this, which is so outside of the norms in the luxury market, is incredible. I truly enjoyed this experience and it has been my favorite so far.

This week we went to the Texworld Tradeshow in Chelsea. It was so cool to see all the different apparel, fabrics and styles. I was a little overwhelmed with it all at first because it was much bigger than I expected it to be. I walked along the pink carpet and noticed all the nice pieces from different countries. Then I went over to the blue carpet where there was functions fabrics from Colombia and China. As I kept on going there was beautiful embroidery lace from the United States and India. I also checked out the cotton from Turkey and the wool and linen sections. I viewed the accessories/finding trim section as well, along with the silly aspects and denim section. What really caught my eye at this trade show was the beading section from Bangladesh and other places. I also enjoyed the knits and the Korean section. I really saw a lot at this trade show and overall I’d say I enjoyed the experience and would go to something like this again. Texworld contributes to the fashion industry through showcasing apparel fabrics and many, many brands in the industry. It is the largest sourcing event on the East Coast. In my future career as a buyer hopefully, I will be going to many trade shows like this and purchasing from brands like these, so it was great exposure to that side of the industry for me.

Hi! I’m a fashion student living in NYC for the semester! I am so excited to go on this journey and share it with you.
Last Monday, in my study tour class, we walked around the garment district and visited four great stores. The first one was a fabric store. It was a nice, big showroom with lots of beautiful fabrics and sewing materials. I’m a fashion merchandising major, so I’m not super interested in fabrics stores, but it’s still really cool to see the fabrics and if I was a design major I would have been in heaven! It was my least favorite store we went to today, but it was still a good store.
The next store we went to was called M&J Trimming. It was another nice fabric store that was even bigger than the last. I liked this one, M&J Trimming, a little bit better, just because I liked some of the fabrics that I saw more and I liked the layout. It also had buttons, laces, trims, etc. and it seemed like very good quality.
Another store we went to was a magazine and book store. There was a huge variety of fashion magazines from all decades, including all the Vogues (Italia, American, France, etc.), Allure, Glamour, Vanity Fair, etc. It was a really cool place. I was my favorite one we visited that day because I love to read magazines, especially the fashion ones. And they had one of a kind ones there.
The last store we went to was called Mood. I liked this store too. It was my second favorite because there were gorgeous diamond and crystal tiaras on display and little Pom Pom key China’s that caught my eye. They had a lot of pretty heads and laces and buttons and trimmings. Again, if I were a fashion design student, I would’ve been like a little kid in a candy shop!
