An incomplete guide to surviving the Warden.
Hi. My friends and I have recently been exploring an Ancient City and I thought I'd share some of the tips we've been using to survive.
This list is by no means exhaustive, or even necessarily entirely correct, it's just what we've been using that's been working for us so far. Feel free to add to it or contradict it if you like.
Edit: I've added some screenshots and some more information, tonight's gaming session went well :D
Firsly; Things to bring:
Silk touch hoe. Preferably with efficiency. Silk touch if you want to collect the sculk, efficiency because you want that stuff gone fast. This is essential. This will be your main tool. Keep it in your hotbar, hold it close to your chest, this is your lifeline.
Food with high saturation. You don't want to be needing to eat a lot.
A bed, to set spawn.
Torches, lots of torches, like, the cavern is massive, you will need so many torches.
Optional (We didn't, but it will probably be useful): An anvil - to add the swift sneak enchantment to your pants when you find it.
Advised (But again, we didn't because we're unprepared idiots): Chicken eggs, to throw to distract the Warden.
Now, onto the tips:
Create a safe room with a respawn point. Ours was in the ceiling above the central 'portal', with a staircase down to the top of the portal. Clear all sensors and shriekers around this area for it to be considered safe.
Destroy any shriekers you come across. These spawn the Wardens. A Warden will probably spawn from you destroying it, but then it's gone and you don't have to worry about it any more. You will set off the shriekers at some point, it is inevitable. Getting rid of them as soon as possible makes the area safer once the Warden despawns.
Create safe pathways. We moved systematically out from our central safe point, destroying shriekers and sensors as we went and leaving a trail of torches. This way, if you spawn a Warden and have to sneak blind, you have a clear path you can follow back to the safe point.
You can escape the Warden while sneaking. Crouch the second it spawns and keep moving. Yes, he is right behind you, but if you keep going without making any more noise or tripping any more sensors, you can escape.
If you get far enough away that he loses you, and he is not tracking anything else, he will despawn and crawl back into the ground
Have subtitles on. They will tell you when you trip a sensor, when the Warden spawns, when the Warden senses you.
Do not attack the Warden. He just gets really angry and then takes ages to despawn. He is terrifying when he's angry.
But also he is dumb. Just watched this dude fall off a cliff while chasing a bat. If you have a spy glass and a safe platform, you can engage in 'idiot watching'.
Tumblr media
Behold: The moron. The dumbass. The absolute dingbat. He can't see me, he's too busy getting wacked in the face by a stray bat. Calling him names makes him less scary for me, ok?
Riskier Strategies: (Might get you killed but they've worked for us so far)
If you have one, wear an elytra. Don't bother with a chestplate, it won't save you anyway. With an elytra, you have an additional means of escape. You will be flying blind though, so beware flying into walls. When taking off, aim for your safe platform, e.g the top of the portal.
The spot and swoop strategy: We stood on top of our platform, spotted a chest, swooped in on our elytra, destroyed as many shriekers as we could before the Warden spawned, and then flew off again back to the platform. Waited for the Warden to despawn, and repeat, until there are no more shriekers in the area and you are safe to open the chests. Involves both a guaranteed Warden spawn and flying blind.
The Skywars bridge strategy: My friend Raccoon built a bridge through the air over the top of the structures so as to avoid the sensors. Once over the top of a chest area, drop down, destroy the sensors and then pillar back up onto the bridge and sneak away, or fly like the previous strategy. Involves guaranteed Warden spawn and the possibility of being hit by the ranged attack if he senses you on the bridge.
(bonus: the view from our safe plaform)
Tumblr media
Ok, that's all I have for now, if think of anything else I'll add to this in an edit or reblog or something. Good luck :D

Their prices are fine!!! The carrots are statistically just enough to feed a growing village!!! Organize those farms!! Dont complain if you wont be the change you wish to see!!
my favourite thing about the village and pillage update is that you can push villagers off their beds
