Things that have been unreasonable accommodations according to my past jobs:

- A stool to sit on (one job gave me a stepladder instead)

- Being able to leave a task to go to the toilet

- Either not putting me on locking up duty or moving the lock from the top left hand side of the door to a more reasonable location. Said lock was very basic and hadn't been upgraded since 2004 anyhow. In order to reach the lock I was told to balance on the lip of a windowsill no more than an few cm wide and reach - dangling over a concrete slope.

(All of this is very illegal of employers but it doesn't stop them. I even won an employment tribunal against a former boss for disability discrimination but even then, no change)

Any other disabled people think its fucked up that its up to ablebodied people as to what “reasonable accommodation” is

Hope you don't mind the (tangential) add-on but the whole "gay or European" thing fascinates me. Obviously it originates in the US - but even so, it sorta demonstrates how percieved gender and gender roles vary enough between the US and continental Europe that this phrase can spring up about it.

Broadly speaking, North American and many European gender norms are generally very close. But the differences really seem to be magnified by some in the US. So-called "European" behaviour is considered "gay" to some USAmericans - which as a European queer trans guy really kinda weirds me out, ngl. And I'm from the UK - but by "European" USAmericans mean "from nebulous Continental Europe" which is wild when you consider how much variation there is between different regions of some countries, never mind differences between countries. This goes doubly for the Asian people OP mentioned because a) European is not shorthand for "Non-USAmericans and b) there's so much diversity and variation in Asian countries as well.

I digress, it's very warm here and I'm melting so I'll keep this brief - the whole "Gay or European" thing is kinda homophobic and xenophobic st once sometimes. Like, there's a whole plot in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (a show which I like) where there's a neublously Central European character called Jan who is stereotyped as "Is he gay or just European?".

There's no point to this add on except to point out how weird I find the stereotype. If I had more energy I'd add on more, but alas, I am too warm rn 🫠

I find it very funny when TERFs/radfems see me criticize intersexist rhetoric in trans spaces and automatically think I'm on their side. Only to realize two minutes later that I think we should do away with "biological sex" entirely and stop assigning sexes & genders to infants. And then they make a post about how I'm delusional and a misogynist, as always. Anyway I think more women should have penises and more men should have uteruses and we should completely degrade the meanings of the words "male" and "female" until they are solely reclaimed in the form of self-expression.

Just seen a clip from ‘the snake charmer bagpiper’ who’s from India. She’s really cool, and kills some of the music but she reposted something on her instagram which says:

“When the colonized of England come together 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🤝🇮🇳”

And I know the original message was probably written by an American because of the spelling of colonized but ARGHHHHHH, SCOTLAND colonised INDIA. We were some of the biggest bastards out there!

Now for anyone seeing it, it looks like a Scottish person is claiming Scotland and India are equally colonised.

I've heard North Atlantic Archipelago (used sometimes in academic writing in my field, which is Celtic Studies. Naturally, most of us Celticists are bothered by the term British Isles as well).

is there a way to refer to the british isles (ireland + eng/scot/wales + channel islands etc) without calling them british?

This is embarrassing cowardice well after the fact. Her government’s delay and continuous consultation on GRA Reform allowed bigots to use it as a beachhead.

This could have been pushed through and done with, but being overly cautious helped lead to the culture war nightmare we have just now.
