My new favourite music-maker to come outta Cape Town!
Dexter da Vinci. He appears to still be pretty lowkey, but his music certainly is anything but! Loving the variety but similarity in style; deep house, chunky bass lines and gooey ambience is the order of the day. The photoset shows the artwork for the sounds uploaded to his Dexter da Vinci SoundCloud Page, in order:
Lucid: Super ambient and dreamy - one of those tunes you just sway to, enjoying the deep house and elements of saxophone.
What You Want: Another deep house delight. At 120bpm it’s pretty much the stuff you want to write prose to (or at least for me).
Rayze: His own words, “A hip hop/funk inspired, chill step track with soft synths and chunky bass.”
Mosh Pit: … “revibe of Mosh Pit by Flosstradamus”

The rooftop studio!!
The local music scene has, over the last few years, soared in terms of; the volume of artists, the quality of music being released, and the level of competition amongst recording artists. This is incredible – gone are the days where the phrase “South African music” would practically be synonymous with one or two artists & Continued
Interested in getting your songs on the radio? The Rooftop Group will mix & master your music perfectly for airplay.

Awesome story!
Been to Van Hunks in Kloof Street? It’s one of my favourite places in Cape Town, actually! I’m a little embarrassed to admit though that up until fairly recently I had no idea that this savvy bar was rooted in legend!
So I googled it. Obviously :)
Check out the link for the full tale.

Synergy Live Festival 2013
Tumblr media
Ah such fond memories I have of Synergy 2011. The sweltering heat, icy cold nights and perpetually pending sun-stroke fill up a sizable chunk of those find memories!
Well. I'm obviously not going this year but it does look like it's gearing up to be pretty amazing! The live acts from 2011 were not to be scoffed at though - my absolute favourite part of that weekend was the set performed by GOODLUCK and especially the art where Matthew Moolman walked out and they performed their Taking It Easy banger! We went NUUUUTSSSS! :D
Have a look at there promo video:

The lifestyle of Cape Town is relaxed - everyone does things at their own pace, constantly at leisure. It's wonderful, really. The same could be said about our music scene - you either stand out from the crowd by working REAL hard or you get subsumed within the tide of the masses.
If you want your music out there, you've got to make movements - an important step is to record your music in a real swell studio. All of the images are sourced from The Rooftop Group website - that's one of their Cape Town studio's - I love how it mimics the vibe of the typical Capetonian too.
Record your music in a studio & with people who know what they're doing. Capetonians may be aid-back, but we know quality!

It's that time of the year again - South African Idols! It's funny how many of the contestants who don't win the whole shebang go on to be quite successful, don't you think? Mathew Moolman has always been one of my fave contestants.

So much of music floating around Cape Town!
Cape Town is positively overflowing with talented folks. Walk around campus or stumble into a hipster joint and you WILL find a dude strumming guitar strings or a charged cypher underway.
There is so much talent and so many artists out there who only seem to share their gift with random souls through serendipitous occasions. Why are these crazy-good hip hop emcee's not getting there music/ poetry/ rhymes out into the world and not just being content with the somnambulistic nod of the passer-by who didn't expect to be so pleasantly surprised by such incredible artistry with words?
Okay, that last sentence was a mouthful, apologies.
But in all seriousness tho, every talent artist I cross paths with is swiftly directed to a recording studio that can provide ALL the resources they might need. Just to have a look and feel for the potential that can flower from having top quality sound and assistance.

I love, LOVE this official radio edit for "Balloon" ft. Kwesta. The added hip hop flavour gives the track a nice and spicy touch.
Very dope.
