thinking about how the first time peter sees rose again is most likely also the first time heâs heard his real name in months, and how rose subsequently spends the rest of the season reminding him of his humanity and who he really is, only for peter to throw away his career and convictions without hesitation in exchange for her safety
thinking about how rose struggled with ptsd and worked so hard to get back to a good place mentally, yet she jumped headfirst into danger as soon as she heard that peter was in trouble and put her career and safety at risk to help him because she knew he needed her, only to realize in the end that the life she wanted was incompatible with the path peter had chosen
thinking about how, even after 10 months apart with no contact, they both immediately fell back into their old patterns with rose watching the surveillance feed while peter slept, and peter picking up dinner, and rose having a dangerous and not-entirely-legal plan that peter had no choice but to go along with, and the banter and the joking, and the way they worked so well together and supported and protected each other
as much as i loved their immediate connection in season 1, the angst and tension in their relationship in season 2 was just immaculate â itâs about the yearning and the understanding and the hurt and the mutual sacrifice and the fact that theyâre better together and they want to be together but canât for reasons outside of their control
itâs the fact that peter is aware of how much better his life is with rose in it, both personally and professionally, and his absolute certainty that he can protect her even as much as it worries him to know that sheâs in danger
itâs the fact that peter comes to the realization this season that he himself is the cause of that danger, that she will never be safe as long as sheâs associated with him, that just because he can protect her doesnât mean that she wants to live the kind of life where she constantly needs protection
itâs the fact that things are different this time around, because sheâs more than just a witness he needs to protect, because he knows her now, because he cares about her, because he will never be able to live with himself if something happens to her
itâs the fact that peter gave up his life for hers, he became a traitor in exchange for her safety, and he'll take that secret to the grave so she can move on with her life and forget about him
itâs the fact that rose sees peter slowly losing himself to desperation and suspicion, falling further and further into that dark place she herself once inhabited, so she chooses to stay with him, to support him and protect him in her own way, to make sure he never forgets who he really is
itâs the fact that rose has never felt more like her old self than when sheâs working the case with peter, and she feels more alive than she has in a long time that night after the party, until she sees the worry and panic on peterâs face when he realizes she didnât keep her promise
itâs the fact that she understands the guilt he feels from each loss, and the fact that she could never put him in a position where he might have to mourn her too
itâs the fact rose likes peter, likes the two of them together, but she doesnât know how they could ever have a normal life together, but she could never forget about him either
itâs the fact that they both sacrificed so much for the other but it still wasnât enough to keep them together in the end
i am foaming at the mouth, i am rattling the bars of my enclosure, i am impatiently waiting for season 3

Spoiler â ď¸
Obx killing off JJ is like if Teen Wolf decided to kill Stiles in s6 like these are the sort of characters you simply don't kill. I mean they could have gone the Teen Wolf s6 route where he is in only a few scenes here and there and maybe it's because he is kidnapped or something just like what happened with Stiles so it makes sense why he isn't there as much anymore. Like anything except killing him.

The worst part is that they buried JJâs body in Morocco, a whole foreign country, the pogues wonât even be able to visit his grave back home. He lived his entire life thinking he had not home aside from his friends only for him to die and not even have a proper place to be buried.

Jonas Pate better be on the phone with Rudy Pankow right now as we speak BEGGING him to do it for one more season and change the script for S5, find a way to fix it⌠âcause this ainât it.
How can you do that to a show and character youâve been dedicating almost 6 years of your life? And not doing it for literally only ONE MORE season!
Thatâs what I canât wrap my head around, itâs not like they are planning to go on for years and years so youâre like ânah canât do thatâ and itâs understandable⌠BUT ONE MORE YEAR, 6-7 more months on set, to give a dignified conclusion to a story and a character youâve been playing for YEARS and that started your entire career. BOY GO FINISH WHAT YOU STARTED FOR ONE LAST TIME!
I truly hope this backlash is being heard by both writers and actor, âcause this for real ruined the legacy of the show and of the character.
They can try to find some poetic explanation behind JJâs death as much as they want, thereâs literally none and the people who are watching their story and have followed the journey are telling them so. It doesnât make sense in a show like Outer Banks that always ended on positive notes and doesnât make sense for a character like JJ who endured all that pain for nothing, throwing away all his journey like that.
Any final ending that doesnât include ALL the Pogues together seeing the results of their fatigue isnât worth it. They can get rich again, save the house again, get revenge, get a happy ending but it will never be worth it, it will never be a dignified conclusion to the story they went through together and it will never be worth it if they lost JJ in the process. Their found family and doing it together was the whole core of this show and now itâs gone.
If JJ stays dead there will never be any type of happy ending for any of them, itâs a tragic ending and it will stay tragic forever.
All 6 Pogue should be there for the ending, without one of them and specifically JJ, the entire story has gone to waste.
If they have to change the script then change it, if they have to beg Rudy Pankow to do it for one more season then beg him, because as of now the finale of this story is already set and itâs already ended in tragedy, no âhappy endingâ can cover this and nothing is gonna make the story move forward. With the death of a Pogue the story ends âcause this what it was all about, THEIR GROUP.
THIS is what we mean when we say âthe show is overâ because there is no S5 and no ultimate finale that can fill this emptiness left in the story by JJ and that can change the perception of the story in retrospective.
If they donât see the final victory ALL together then it wasnât worth it, none of it and we watched this story for nothing⌠we were rooting for the Pogues for nothing.

One Direction was the foundation of my high school experience. I havenât kept up with Liam much over the years but I do know he was open about his struggles with addiction/alcohol/depression. I obviously donât know if his death was alcohol/drug related but itâs just a terrible, terrible thing either way. I canât image his family and friends and his poor son having to deal with this heartache đâ¤ď¸âđŠš
