Call of Duty: Ghosts Timeline [Part 2]

To preface: this is part two of a three-part series where I cover two different “official” timelines for the game and their discrepancies with in-game material.  

All of the information I am about to share in this part is taken from the French version of the game. Unlike the previous timeline, this one actually has some character birthdates. However, the DOBs for Keegan, Ajax, and Logan are not mentioned in this version either. At this time, it is best to assume that the birthdates listed on their wiki pages (English & French) are nothing more than speculation.

Which, for me personally, really sucks since I started this whole venture to see if the wiki pages were correct, but I digress. Here is the French timeline with images (and poorly translated versions of them) as proof for what I am about to write.

Before the events of Call of Duty: Ghosts

1977 / 1978 ➞ Elias Walker is born. (Age: 51)

July 1, 1979 ➞ Victor Ramos is born. (Age: 49-50)

1982 / 1983 ➞ Thomas Merrick is born. (Age: 46-47)

1999 / 2000 ➞ Merrick enlists in the military.

2000 / 2001 ➞ David “Hesh” Walker is born. (Age: 28)

Early 2005 ➞ Operation: Sand Viper takes place.

October 2, 2006 ➞ Gabriel Rorke undergoes a psych eval.

Early 2016 ➞ The Federation is formally established.

The events of Call of Duty: Ghosts

July 8, 2017 ➞ Caracas mission take place.

2019 ➞ ODIN strikes the U.S.A.

June 6, 2029 ➞ Brave New World takes place. (Exact date not listed, just my summation.)

June 7, 2029 ➞ The missions No Man’s Land and Struck Down take place.

June 8, 2029 ➞ Homecoming takes place.

June 15, 2029 ➞ Federation Day takes place.

June 16, 2029 ➞ Birds of Pray takes place.

June 17, 2029 ➞ The Hunted takes place.

June 20, 2029 ➞ Clockwork takes place.

June 25, 2029 ➞ Atlas Falls takes place.

June 27, 2029 ➞ Into the Deep, End of the Line, and Sin City all take place.

July 5, 2029 ➞ All or Nothing, Severed Ties, LOKI, and The Ghost Killer take place.

Here are all the Rorke files that include actual dates. If you would like to see all the Rorke files from the French version, please let me know and I will post them.

Now that I have it all laid out for everyone to see, I would like to point out some significant discrepancies with this version. The two leading causes for these discrepancies are Rorke Files #13 and #21.

Notice anything? Like how it says that it's 2028 when we discover the existence of LOKI! In all fairness, this could be a red herring, as it is the only instance where 2028 is stated as the current year. But in all honesty, the files kinda switch from 2028 to 2029 randomly, but it's in the fine details.

For example, Victor Ramos' age aligns with the game taking place in 2028, until you consider the fact that when Federation Day occurs, it's nearly a month before his birthday, so his age should have technically been listed as 48. Because why mention the age he would be turning that year instead of the age he currently is? So the only way for it to make sense is for the game to have taken place in 2029.

However, that is minuscule compared to this absolute gem of inconsistency:

Yeah, uh-huh, I was dumbstruck when I saw this file. I love this game, but damn are these timelines underdeveloped.

How is Merrick 41 in 2029 when he was 17 in 2000? If he were 17 in 2000, he would be turning 46/47 in 2029, not 41/42. And if you use 41 as the base, he would have turned 17 in 2005.

As a side note, this is why I put 1999 as another possibility for his enlistment date, because I find it hard to believe that he enlisted at 17, completed Navy SEAL training (which typically takes over a year and a half), and then deployed with SEAL Team 2 all in the same year.

Anyway, this is where I'm gonna leave this part. In my next post, I will discuss what is actually shown in-game, regardless of your language settings, and what I believe caused the differences in these timelines.

Favorite detail of all time forever from the game is the fact that the story opens with Logan waking up and Hesh immediately apologizes for waking him up. Like you goddamn cutie pie. First you let your baby brother nap on patrol (while you keep watch over him!) and then when you wake him up (playing with your dog, mind you.) you apologize pointlessly bc y’all have to get moving exactly then anyways.

I just know on other patrols Logan would be absolutely slumped and Hesh would be fibbing like “Yeah we’re running behind guys, so sorry, yeah like 15 mins.” Bc he wanted to let Logan rest. He’s such a good mom.
