another!! This is the second datable character and one I've been excited to get drawing for, uh. years now, I guess. I read Brian Jacques's Lord Brocktree at a very impressionable age and have been gay for badgers ever since
Rowan Stonefist
badger, he/him Rowan is the oldest of the main cast and carries with him the weight of wisdom and knowledge. He traveled a lot in his youth but settled back down in Logmarrow Abbey as he grew older. However, his skill in the wilderness made him the prime candidate for couriering messages from the Abbey; he's stopped getting in as much trouble on the road as of late, but, like anything, all good things must come to an end.

rabbit, he/him A somewhat brusque inventor, prefers the company of wood and stone to people, but he's not getting any younger and Logmarrow Abbey needs his help for some structural improvements. Is this the year he finally gives up his workshop out in the country and moves in full-time to the Abbey?

Character Sprites - Old Man Sorrel Sketches
I told you I'd have art to share! This is the first sketches for any characters I have in this setting, so there's a LOT that's going to change; the finished sprites will have, like, finished linework and also color lmao
Anyways, this is Old Man Sorrel! He's the main character for this, and the one you'll be controlling throughout the game. This isn't his design for when you're doing that, though. I hope to have a lot of sprite changes because I love making too much work for myself! And also I just want these characters to feel alive and expressive, not just ... stiff, I guess? We'll see how long I can keep that up lol

Story Update - Draft ...3?
So I've actually had a Twine prototype (version 1) for this since …2021? I've revised the story once since then (bringing us to 2), but intended that to go directly into the Ren'Py version. It's only existed in my Google Docs file for this project thus far. HOWEVER After meeting with my story consultant (a dear friend of mine who is kind enough to let me talk about my various stupid projects), I've decided to revise the story again, so we're on version 3, technically. It's about 100% more work but I think it'll be way more engaging and flesh out the world and story and characters a lot more, and I hope you like it!
I won't tip my hand too much, but this version has more depth put into the races Jacques would historically ignore / write off as "just plain evil" for the benefit of the plot and the fact that it was a children's story. I disagree with this mindset, but he really couldn't help it, he was British.
Hopefully I'll have some visuals to share soon! Those are slightly more exciting lol

These are a few title designs I'm testing out. I specifically tried to mimic the styles used in the Redwall books I read growing up, as well as the design from the 1999 series I found a few years later. As you can see, I usually have to plan things out in pencil first, then take it to digital to move stuff around (and copy + paste any repeated letters heyoooo)
All this to really drive home the fact that I am NOT a graphic designer, woo

Introduction
Hello! This is the progress blog I'll be keeping for a visual novel I'm developing called Logmarrow Abbey! It's inspired by Brian Jacques's Redwall series of novels and features a journey! As of right now, I have a functional prototype in Twine and am working on porting it over to Ren'Py. There's some significant rework to be done to the script and I still gotta do, like, all of the art lmao But here's a start!
