Mycroft's old teachers/headmaster/other members of the school faculty remember him both as a student and as the one who was practically a stand-in parent for Sherlock after he graduated. (The school secretary, especially, interacted a lot with him as Sherlock's elder brother. She called him more often than any other parent. Maybe they even had an arrangement where she would keep an eye on Sherlock and let him know how he was doing.)

I generally don't trust pelicans, but I will make an exception for friend pelican. Maybe he'll even be safe with his mouth opened if I bring him some fish (sorry, no babies).

Someone (the Finnish ambassador) offers Mycroft two tickets for Swan Lake. Mycroft considers going (the tickets are for a private box with an excellent view), but in the end he decides that he's too busy and just sends the tickets to Sherlock. He knows his brother loves ballet, so he might like to go with one of his friends. Maybe Molly Hooper.
On the next day, Sherlock shows up at his office and demands why he's not ready yet - they need to get going.
