Concept Statement
The first assessment is mainly about breaking something and find out the truth or unknown behind. After the initial evaluation, I tried to explore the other questions again to give more idea related to the rebellion. In week 5, I don the experiment of a different polygon by using simple materials, paper and tapes to create a sculpture randomly. After the I experiment on the question about the boundaries and do some experiment on digital drawings. I did some sketches and saw what I could come up with.
My first inspiration comes from a book I read six months ago which is written by Hermann Hessas. It gave me some idea of how rebellion can be described. It is a story about a path of growing up and the way of the realisation of self. This main character called Emil Sinclair born in a bourgeois family. The main idea of this book is to explain how Sinclair struggle in the world of light and the world with darkness.
“The bird fights its way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who would be born must first destroy a world.” Demina - Hermann Hessas
In the book, the egg is referred to Sinclair's family. For me, I comprehend the egg as the standard structure of our society. We all have our ways to look at the world, and we need to be brave to show other what we think even though it may not be familiar with additional. Creative rebellion is a kind of braveness to show others a new perception or some idea that is not yet accepted by the public. Then quote can express how creative rebellion works in contemporary art and design.
The other inspiration is from the book called The one who leave Omelas. Omelas refer to a happy, picturesque society. However, underneath this happiness is base on one child suffering, a child that everyone knows he is here. The story is reflecting our community. Every single object we use ar base on someone's hard work. In our daily life, we usually satisfied with the present and neglect others situation.
In my artwork, I want to show the rebellion against the rule. Breaking the laws and regulations can let us find out a new dimension and perspective of different object or issue. I use foam board the made the cracked eggshell. At the being of the work, I tried to use some string and straws to make the eggshell. However, straws and string are not strong enough to maintain the shape of the shell. Therefore, I use them as a supporting material and extend a little bit to create a semi-complete eggshell that people can see through. I used the modelling clay to create the hands. I also used the aluminium foil to do the framework of these hands. I tried several times to adjust the size if the shell and hands. When I was modelling the hands, I found that it is difficult to form it with just clay. After that, I do some research on how to do the modelling of the human body, and aluminium foil is one of a cheap and easy way to solve my problem. I can form the shape of hand directly and cover it with clay. However, it still took me a couple of time form the hands. I used acrylic to paint the outside of the shell in white and paint inside with warm tone colours. The outside of the shell is blank with crack, what I want to express is the world is full of possibility just like a drawing paper. The crack is the problem and the potential risk. It may not be understood by others, but if you do not get out of it, you cannot paint it and repair the damages. The inside of the shell is presenting a beautiful city. I merch the hands and the shell together to show the relationship of these object. The people remain unchanged are usually appease the current and staying in their comfort zone. The hands break through the shell represent trying to get out of their utopia and seeking for innovation. Having an open mind for both existence and the unknown, no more stereotype and no more resistance to unclear ideas. To improve or change the world or particular things, we need to get out of the room. To adventured not only staying satisfied with the existence but also being brave to try new things.

Working Process

I tried different ways to make the hands. First, I worked it with clay only, but it is too softer before it dries out. Then I decided to use the wooden stick as well, but it still did not come up with a good result. Then I finally use aluminium foil to do the rough shape of the hands and cover it with clay to do further details.

Week 7 Experiment

The sketches are about getting out of the limited structure of your society. I tried to make an eggshell. In the beginning, I decided to use the same material in week 5 experiment to create a sphere. However, the connection between paper stick is hard to stick together and hard to make a further adjustment. After that, I did some research on how to create a sphere in another way. Straw is a good media which can easily adjust the shape of the sheld.

Final poster and concept statement Creative acts aim to disseminate an idea through the course of variations work or development of a creative process. Most of them are using exaggerate ways to express their views and usually being denied. Especially in the democratic society artist tend to express their dissatisfaction with the society. According to Boros Diana (2012) issues of history, site, political, class and environment are all engage which can inspire or change the public. Art, design, and media are all base on creativity when they are canonized as rebellion, the creative act will also become rebellious. For me, contemporary creative rebellion is like a mirror in the mirror, once you saw it, it shows you something new something you have never seen or think of. I try to use a hammer to break the mirrors and observed the form and shape of broken mirrors. This action is reflecting how the creative act breaking the rule that built in the past and showing and rebellious action at the same time. The drawing of the broken mirror reflecting a guy who is wearing a mask with a smile. Behind the fake broken mirror is another mirror which is reflecting audiences themselves. What I want present is that every creative act is trying to provoke audience thinking. That can be something about the social issue or individual philosophy. Even though most of us may be satisfied with our society, but their still some problem which is easily neglected. While the technology is getting more and more developed, more and more rules are also being added to our society base on the ethics, religion, civilization or traditional concepts. People are being more selfish because of the personal interest. The contemporary creative acts can break through the wall between the individual and the surroundings, and push them to reflect on their own.
