So huh. I forgot an important thing.

So for celebrating Warden’s 11th year in this forsaken cave, I decided to show you a bit more of the reason current Warden is such a mess.
Warden used to be a pretty ruthless person. They still are, but they used to not have qualms about who they stepped on to get what they wanted. In their earlier days in the Neath, they offered services to the Great Game, playing for red, and once they become a silverer, their role just grew. They could forcefully extract information from agent’s minds, or force them into opening up by using their worst nightmares against them, and boy, so they did.
It was at this time that Warden also made allegiance with the fingerkings. They sympathised with the kings’ desire of existence, and the snakes reassured them that no possession would be permanent. Thus, Warden would set up those wild parties in their Royal Beth suite with the intention of getting people possessed by fingerkings, and many did. This allowed Warden to have more power over Parabola, and to be capable of far more interesting feats during their magic shows.
Overall, Warden didn’t kill many people, but they sure did hurt a lot of them.
After the events in the Iron Republic, Warden only got worse. With all that happened so quickly, they felt goddamn immortal: They had a new gender, they knew why their family died, they knew they were the one supposed to die in their place, they committed an uncharacteristic act of raw violence. After that, the world was just them, their troupe and their secret vendetta against an unholy monster. Everybody else was just extras in their play.
And then the missing… time happened.
First, the missing month. Their old situationship, the Lady in Lilac, was at their door, and after a blank spot, they were suddenly in a distant, horrible place all alone and with a brand-new fur coat they don’t remember getting.
But that was fine (not), Warden could still go back home a very easy way! There was a mirror in the boat that they could use to travel through Parabola. That would be much safer than trying to navigate Stormbones all by themself after all.
Except that the mirror was full of snakes pissed that their agent had just left on a personal quest for a month with no notice, no monthly offerings and breaking all of their agreements. What’s worse, it wasn’t the first time Warden had simply skipped town with no explanation. They had gone to the Iron Republic on a whim, after all.
Therefore, if Warden couldn’t keep their word, there were means of arranging someone else that would…
Warden was possessed by a fingerking for five years.
If wasn’t for their reflection becoming sentient and setting up a plan and a team, Warden would still be possessed.
Oh, and the fingerking made… some interesting modifications to their body.
An old excerpt from our discord:
Warden anecdote of the day: Hidden in Professor O'Kane's lab, there is a brass tub that smells of amber. It's under a tarp, so you wouldn't know what it is unless you know what it was used for. Warden hates to visit her lab, because when they do, they can't take their eyes off that tub. A mere glimpse and they can feel their joints popping in unison... On an old register, Warden's height is stated as 5'8. They're 6'0.
There is more to it, but you get the drill. They needed some time to adapt.
Another piece from discord:
One hour later and five years and an eternity of nightmares have passed. They are four inches taller, considerably thinner, weak and wrecked both physically and mentally. They hardly speak. And let's not comment on all the snake custom bits. Warden was admitted to the Royal Beth for 3 months while recovering.
… And the snake cut all of their hair.
Since I got back into the game in early 2023, they’ve been recovering from this. During this time, Warden completed their quest for revenge, got back with their troupe, let their hair grow back, helped a frienemy (the Professor O’Kane from above) with her quest of raising a shameful hybrid and got flayed by the fingerkings in the process (they got better though), slowly made new acquaintances after being out of the loop for so long and even got some new partners. They are significantly better now, although… the process of removing the fingerking was aggressive and not entirely perfect. Basically, the snake was burnt with irrigo until it fell out. However, while its memories and personality were being burnt and dissolved, some of it escaped as they were imprinted into Warden’s mind like some sort of thought photography. These little bits of fingerking became part of Warden, whether they like it or not. And they are only figuring those inhuman thoughts are here now…
And all of that is a vital piece of information about Warden and why they are Like That.

they teach you the golden rule, treat others how you want to be treated, but in a pinch you can apply the silver rule (be kinda selfish because you’ve earned it) or even the bronze rule (manipulate others purely for your benefit).

one fun quirk about grace's story is that you can create an instant AU by just having someone else pick him up from the stormbones bc twitch was immediately so weird about it that it changed the trajectory of both of their lives. removing them changes Everything. also maybe he gets to keep his coat
#merry already rescues people so often and tries their best to help people in bad situations.#they'll be so gentle and worried for him. you bet that guy is getting so many blankets and hot soup#and constantly being asked if he needs anything more

this is a reminder to all FIRMAMENT ENJOYERS to buy a heckin LEGENDA COSMOGONE 🟧 at the rat market this weekend
you need that shit to UNLOCK CHAPTER 6 which is JUST AROUND THE CORNER, MAYBE. and if you don't buy it THIS WEEKEND OR THE NEXT, you'll have to WAIT UNTIL NOVEMBER for it to come back. and let's face it, OVER 77% of the playerbase has ADHD and if we put it off until next weekend we will FORGET. 🟪 and then we will be SAD.
(like okay, I guess you can also get one of those through larceny, but really, who has time for that. just buy one from the market and support your local rats instead)
and as a reminder, you can check this week's sellables via the Gazette at your Lodgings. if you have absolutely nothing, probably the most accessible grind is Captivating Ballads from Underclay in Spite (requires A Name Whispered In Darkness 3): "Descend to the Underclay Quarter" -> work with any of the three people here, it's just flavor -> "Work with the Unfinished Men" -> do any option that is NOT the Curriculum Vitae one as that gives suspicion on failure -> cash out for a Captivating Ballad once you hit 600 progress. do this 5 times and you'll be set.
GO GET YOUR BOOK GOGOGOGO 🟧🟧🟧
