During the New Year's scene, Kalymos gets beaned by Amir's sunglasses when he tosses them, causing her to yowl in protest. However, when Amir tosses them, he tosses them back towards the living space, not off the balcony towards where Kalymos usually sits (by all the future devices). That would mean that for the New Year's scene specifically, she's waiting by the couches just out of view of the camera instead of her actual designated spot.

Not only that, but if New Year's arrives and you haven't romanced one of the Hex, Kalymos will appear before the Drifter on the balcony and share the moment with them instead. This insinuates that Kalymos is waiting off screen during every possible scene in case the Drifter ends up alone.

This leads me to believe that not only is Kalymos perfectly capable of higher thought and speech like the other Cavia, she went with Albrecht and stayed in 1999 specifically as a contingency plan to make sure the Drifter takes the right course of actions, but refuses to use/show these abilities as to not tip off the Hex to Albrecht's contingency, making her essentially the secret mother hen of the 1999 squad that operates exclusively in the shadows, in this essay I will-
