If I had a nickel for every piece of media that I was obsessed with had a villain (who had become a villain by abusing his special powers in a twisted attempt to save his wife's life against her own wishes) reveal to the blond sunshine protagonist that he was their father for the direct purpose of emotionally devastating them and corrupting them into a weapon, I would have two nickels

From my latest work on AO3: Meet The Grahams
“Of the twelve months, December is the coldest. The crisp breeze of a winter brisk, heavy snow falls through the suburbs, with dainty snowflakes dissolving into the icy roads. In 1978 London, this was no different. Mrs. Graham de Vanily sat on the back patio in her evening chair, her mind attuned to the rhythmic creaks that accompanied her rocking back and forth. It wasn’t a particularly snowy day, but it was raining, and she had worked up quite a chill. She couldn’t bring herself back inside, though, for her husband was probably waiting to critique her again, his displeasure palatable in the air. About 20 minutes prior, there had been an argument. They had discovered that they were having two baby girls. She had been excited-yes-until Mr. Graham and his ever-charming-selfishness demanded she produce a boy instead.”

there’s a really good fic by @uptoolateart called “how the heart learns to beat again” about the emilie, gabriel, and nathalie dynamic — also the relationship between nathalie & amelie — and this is in one of the chapters!! 10/10 read it’s amazing (there is also a sequel that is currently being written).
you can think about fucking your boss’s wife on the clock. it isn’t illegal or anything. who’s gonna get you, the cops—ohhhhhh he can read your emotions.

i’ll be having a good day and then i remember gabrielle had to carry gabriel’s stupid ass for 9 months 💔 this poor woman
It's funny how Emile and Millie naming their twin daughters after themselves just further push this idea of this legacy, of continuity while Johnny and Gabrielle naming their kid "Gabi" feels like it started as a pregnancy joke, with Johnny talking to Gabrielle's belly and saying "How's little Gabi doing?" and they just continue to refer to their unborn child like that before deciding that no matter what, it was going to be their kid's name (not to mention Gabi is a gender neutral diminutive).

— Gabriel Agreste Character Analysis (part. 2) —
**LINK TO PART 1**
2) Emilie Agreste
We all know that Gabriel met his wife when they were still young, probably in college (hinted by Representation), and they were poor: they lived in an attic room above some sort of building. We also know that Gabe and Emilie fell deeply in love fast, and most likely got married quickly as well.
Along with getting married, they decided to try for a child. However, they found they were infertile. It is implied that Emilie and Gabriel were extremely saddened by this news, and turned to Emilie’s aristocratic parents for help affording the treatments. But is it possible Gabriel didn’t want a child at all? In season 5 he tells Nathalie that “Emilie always deserved more than she wanted”. Maybe Gabriel only began searching for a cure and the miraculous, not for his own happiness, but for Emilie’s. He doesn’t seem to really care about his son in the early seasons (that’s a whole other topic i could write about). Also, in Werepapas, baby Adrien is unsure of his father’s love is to his absence and cold demeanor.
Tomoe was the one who told Gabriel about the miraculous after all. At first, it might’ve been an innocent thing: he found Nathalie — through Tomoe, and she agreed to go on an adventure through Asia to help find the ladybug and chat miraculous (AT FIRST!!). When they realized they couldn’t find it easily, they must’ve somehow discovered the powers of the peacock miraculous and opted for that instead to create their senti-baby. But Gabriel never lost sight of the 2 most powerful miraculous. He was power hungry. It wasn’t innocent anymore. According to Emilie, Gabriel was stubborn and once he commited to something, he made sure that he got it.
At one point, either Nathalie Emilie probably noticed his want for power, but he was too far gone. After Emilie had Adrien, he might’ve…for the slightest moment…actually focused on them? Only them. That is, until Emilie got sick. We’re gonna talk about that in part 3!! Stick around and thanks for reading!!
Side Note: Should I write about the relationship between Adrien and Gabriel? I think it’s really interesting!

— Gabriel Agreste Character Analysis (part. 1) —
The big question(s) people often ask is “what went wrong?”/“how could Gabriel become so evil?”
While we still don’t have enough information on him to fully understand his intentions, we can assume a few things based on previous episodes: starting all the way back in season 5.
1) His Past
We’re going to start with this because it is possibly one of the most important parts of Gabriel’s life. He was born Gabi Grassette to Johnny and Gabrielle Grassette, a lower class family who owns a french fry shop in Lille. His parents aren’t married either, as mentioned in Werepapas. It is possible, although Gabrielle and Johnny truly love eachother a lot, that the pregnancy was an accident (maybe they weren’t ready to be parents yet). By this assumption, it is possible that they were also young when they gave birth to him. Maybe the fact that they were unprepared affected their parenting skills. Also, based on previous episodes, we know that they weren’t bad people or parents necessarily, but again, this stuff still could’ve affected Gabriel. We also know that Gabrielle and especially Johnny are passionate about their fry business: in Werepapas, Johnny mentions that his ancestors sold fries too. When Gabriel first told his parents he wanted to be a fashion designer, it might’ve angered or offended either of his parents, and this unsupportive behavior could’ve been a reason he left them behind. I seriously doubt Gabrielle was unsupportive though, it was most likely Johnny. Even when he moved out, Gabriel still remained kind according to Andre, and he even made him his first suit to impress the woman Andre had a crush on (Audrey). Maybe this is how Gabriel was discovered by her later on?? Things really started to change when he met Emilie, though, and that’ll be in the second part!!
Thanks for reading! Let me know if I left anything out. 💗

what do you mean elon musk did a nazi salute on live tv at the united states presidential inauguration twice and is now erasing the evidence off the internet by replacing the footage with the crowd cheering instead?
would be a shame if people reblogged this, wouldn’t it?
