And then the moon just blinked at me. Like, rude...

I have things being worked on, lore posts that are being drafted while I create art to pair with them. Like a tasty coffee with a pastry. Though I just wanted to think and talk about a thing I love doing so much in my stories:

You know how fantasy realms have like 64 moons or the forests are made of ice cream? I love that so much it's so great, however it gets boring when it's explicitly not-earth fantasy. Where are my urban fantasies, or even just earths that are so close to ours minus a few changes to the major events in history? But what would you do if instead the oceans were green? Or if people had 6 fingers and toes? Make the world look like, sound like, and appear just like ours, but just slightly out of place where you are a little unnerved by it. Because as much as it looks like your world. Its not. It doesn't change how they act towards something, but if we were to visit we'd question it. We'd even be unnerved by it. ~~~ My story Parallels? Heck yeah I got some weird things! It's my favorite thing to add to a story: just making it Earth but a little to the left.

My favorite one is that: The people of the story all have mirrored anatomy. So instead of being majority right handed, left leaning hearts, right brain being creative, etc. It means it's flipped! So the majority of the population is left handed, and unless they have situs inversus and/or dextrocardia (which is the condition where your organs and/or heart is on opposite sides) then your heart is gonna be right leaning. And the liver is on the right side etc. It doesn't change how their world works. It's just how it is. Another fun one is that pigeons are canonically extinct, but the government is literally using drones to hide that fact. Why? Because I think it's funny. And it doesn't do anything else but annoy one of my main characters- who's a conspiracy theorist. Another one relating to the magic lore is that bones are actually tinted a little bit blue just due to the extra element in their world (It's called Para-radiation).

All this was inspired by one episode of Justice League, where they found out this guy was from a different earth because his spleen or something was on the opposite side. That STUCK with me for years. So everytime I tackle a different world, I like to give them a little weird element to their anatomy or world. Even if its not 100% elven fantasy. (though i must admit, wanting to give characters extra fingers is so fickle with the dreaded robots floating around >.>)

Crimes Aboard The S.S. Ascendance Master Thread.

(Will link threads to names as characters and places get more detailed personal posts.)

Crimes Aboard the S.S. Ascendance takes place in the year 1913 and is a somewhat historical fiction aboard a fictional ocean liner that aims to create a character driven story with a bit of mystery and intrigue. It also aims to repurpose and add public domain related characters in a new and inventive way (only time can tell how “new and inventive” it really will be though).

Progress: Plotting/drafting stages. (Still undecided on whether I want to pursue it as a screenplay or traditional book).

The S.S. Ascendance – A four-funneled ship created by the fictional Wiltzon Lane Lines. She was created with the purpose to compete against the other notorious four-funneled ships at the time, that of the Olympic class liners and Mauritania/Lusitania. She was also created in a last ditch effort to pull the company from the throws of bankruptcy, a choice made by new chairman Quinton Shylton after inheriting the company post his father’s death. The company has been in grave financial trouble coming on ten years now, for the people lost their trust in it after the devastating sinking of their golden child, The S.S. Divinicus in the year 1903. A tragedy which lost 906 lives.

Torrin Cantony – Torrin is fifth officer abord the Ascendance. He survived the Divicinus tragedy at age 15 and lost his family. The Shylton’s (father and son), also survivors, took him in. Torrin then became a ward of the Shylton’s, growing a brotherly bond with Quinton. Soon after his survival of the Divicinus, Torrin decided on a career at sea. Due to his family’s death, Torrin obtained a deep rooted apathy and depression that resulted in a mindset that his “soul belonged to the sea” and that pursuing a seafaring career would allow the sea to take his life at last. Though he doesn’t aspire for much, he has become a writer of fictional stories in his free time as a form of escapism, often times bringing a journal or type-writer with him on his journeys.

Quinton Shylton – As stated previously, Quinton is the current chairman of Wiltzon Lane lines. He will be a passenger on the Ascendance’s maiden voyage to ensure it goes smooth.

Sherrinford Holmes – Sherrinford is the son of Mycroft Holmes. He was born a fragile child, having an underlying congenital heart condition that has plagued him his whole life. This combined with the death of Sherlock at Reichenbach Falls has resulted in an extreme overprotective nature from Mycroft. For his whole life, Sherrinford has been confined only to his home and that of the Diogenes club. But when he becomes entranced by the nature of ocean liners, Sherrinford is determined to see one in person. So he sneaks away from his father and stows away on the Ascendance to get a “close look.” (Mycroft named Sherrinford that in honor of his deceased brother, Sherlock. For in this universe, their mother contemplated the name Sherrinford before settling on Sherlock.)

Lotte Daae – Lotte Daae is the daughter of Christine Daae and Raoul De Chagny. Named after their favorite story of little Lotte, both Christine and Lotte held the last name Daae to avoid the scandal that came with the De Chagny name (at Raoul’s insistence). Being like her father, Lotte has always been entranced by the sea. But as a woman, she hadn’t many options other than stewardess, a career she had no desire to pursue. So she settled on a career in telegraphy—luckily for her, telegraphy was starting to be employed at sea. When Wiltzon Lane Lines came to employ wireless operators, she was the first to jump at the chance (strangely enough, they requested a woman in specific). Lotte joins the Ascendance crew as a junior wireless operator.

Jay Gatsby – After losing his inheritance from Dan Cody, Gatsby is convinced continuing along the sea might just net him another chance to make it big. Filling his years pre-the war and post his time with Cody, Gatsby decides to tour the sea. With no money to his name, but the manner and dress of a gentleman, Gatsby somehow wins a first-class ticket aboard the Ascendance in a card match. Pretending like he belongs, Gatsby joins the Ascendance’s maiden voyage as a faux member of first-class, trying his best to lay his hands upon yet another fortune among the sea.

Rory Hughes – The begrudging chief/first officer of the Ascendance. Grumbles a lot but has a justice seeking heart deep down.

The voyage begins when Quinton sets Torrin upon investigating Gatsby, suspicious of the man’s enigmatic nature and convinced that he’s planning something nefarious. Meanwhile, while examining the ship in his curiosity, Sherrinford notices odd details about the ship. Cheap wood, a single lined hull, lack of life boats, certain things that went against ship crafting conduct in a post Titanic sinking world. Other strange cost cuts crop up along the way. An apparent shortage on officers is brought to Torrin’s attention, him as the fifth being the most junior officer, despite the ship’s large size surely requiring more. That and, the chief officer and first officer role have been merged into one, a complaint brought up by Rory. Finally there’s the curious nature of Lotte—only hired as the Ascendance’s junior wireless operator since as a woman she’s being employed at a cheaper rate. Just what conspiracy is occurring aboard this ship? Can Torrin and Sherrinford figure it out?

He's my favorite

Furthering my sharing of Crimes In Castor (post), let's meet the main characters, shall we? For starters, the main character himself, Tevin Cantony! Tevin is what I would like to call the "idiot agent" trope. Think Chuck from Chuck... Maxwell Smart from Get Smart. Then there's the second trope he exihbits, the "pretty boy" trope. Very much a "anything but the face!" Kind of vibe. He also strives to be the epitome of a British gentleman, something that is reflected in his pattern of speech. I would vaguely say his personality can be summed up like this. "Tevin is self driven man who tries to shine his brightest in front of a crowd. He's an eccentric that ensures to put on a show for those around him. Though in reality, he's an insecure man who isn't terribly fond of people. He usually struggles to feel empathy, but when driven, can still work for others." He was born and raised in London until age seventeen when him and his family moved to Castor City in America. Tevin always felt over-shadowed by his older brother of fifteen years, Clyde, who their father often favored. (Basically, Tevin's dad made sure they followed a 32 year old Clyde to America.) When Clyde got a job at vigilante organization Robin Hoods Undercover, Tevin made sure to chase his brother's shadow to prove himself once and for all. Of course Tevin was then fired... But don't worry, he'll make sure he gets back in.

Tevin considers his best asset to be his "charm." Therefor most heists he employs the role of information obtainer and distractor. His voiceclaim is Hugh Jackman. But not just any performance by Hugh Jackman. Specifically his performance as Rhoddy from Flushed Away- As always, art by partner in crime, GlyCreative :)

Been devistatingly terrifed of sharing my current project. But here I am today ripping the bandaid off! Tagging the fandoms that this work is very much inspired by, don't hate me. Anyway, this is Crimes Castor! It follows Tevin Cantony, an idiot thief/spy who was kicked from the vigilante organization called the RHU in the city of Castor. He's trying to get back in, so he recruits city-wide known thief Vulpes. Main characters Tevin (teal guy) and Teddy/Vulpes (red girl) VERY much started as Ace Attorney OCs. Tevin was a dumb attorney. Teddy was the thief assistant archetype very much inspired by Kay.

The project is currently on its third draft. I hope to submit it to publishers but if that doesn't work I will be hiring an editor and self-publishing. (Though I'm actively working on draft 3-- Beta readers would still be very welcome). The tone of the story has been inspired by AA from the very beggining. From humor, to character designs, to character archetypes, etc. Here is the cover, which I have wonderfully commissioned from my sister GlyCreative . (Can... Can you tell the cover is inspired by AA too?)

hi aaron. i have an ask about the ending of wizards!! (hoping it hasnt been asked yet)

i believe(?) i read that one of the ideas for post-full-troll jim was for him to become a changeling. was there a reason he turned fully human again instead? thank you!!

For Wizards, we’d originally planned for Claire to use her new mastery over dark magic to turn Jim into a changeling, just as Morgana originally created them back in the Middle Ages. (Merlin couldn’t do it or refused to acknowledge the possibilities its powers, because he never learned or trusted dark magic.) Jim would have been able to shift between human, half-troll and beast form at will — or perhaps via his emotions, not unlike The Hulk.

This ending was altered when those working on the follow-up film determined Jim’s arc for the movie would revolve around him coming to terms with losing his powers and being “merely human” during the magic apocalypse. Sadly, our ending simply wouldn’t work with that direction for the film.

For the curious, I’ve attached a small snippet of the original outline grid to see how it would have slotted in rather elegantly.

Being a writer is the internal battle of "How dramatic can I make these characters" and "how DUMB and BRAINLESS can I make these characters and how can I ensure their interactions are mind-numbing hilarity" and there is no in between.

Meet the Parallel Crew: Ed

Time to talk about the characters that'll show up a bit more! We've met Ed and Bee briefly (and I will yap about them)- but did you know that Ed starts out hUMAN in the story? Yeah, that's right i got monsterboys. Are you gonna know HOW?... No, it's my lil secret :3c (but like... you will get a lot of monsterboy Ed because he's honestly really fun to draw)

But Ed is one of my favorite characters. I like to project onto him. Born and raised in a mafia called the 'Undercrowns' Ed has had a chill life and is held up to very high standards by his parents. However, due to fear and sheltering he's not well versed in what the world is going to need from him, and while that WAS to be fixed after his parent's party, it would never be and he'd have to figure out the world by himself- with the help of his friend Gus of course! Ed, when he was first implemented into the story started out as a sassy bastard. He used to be rude and stern and just basically hid all his terror behind a cocky smile. However, I tend to create soft boys? On accident? A LOT? He slowly became a very anxious and touch starved- though he still puts on his little front as a stoic, confident, mafia prince. We get to see him more soft and overthinking more often. He's very sensitive about his appearance, since that's the big thing his parents had hammered into him: "It's about presentation." But he gets to learn to tackle that insecurity over many occasions.. Along with the insecurity of following what was laid out for him by someone else. He's learning to be his own man 🥺 Now the white creature? that's his parallel, Scream! I haven't talked about parallels yet, but they're basically dopplegangers of the humans- so Scream is an Ed doppleganger. He's more arrogant than his counterpart, but we love him all the same.

people might think creating OC lore involves a lot of thinking & planning, but in my personal experience, OC development is more like a divine vision from a god slamming you over the head with a mallet while ur doing the fuckin dishes or folding laundry

Soooo this is Ed (Right) and Bee (Left). This is actually a bit later in the story, but i just really enjoy drawing them like this (ahem, he doesn't look like this at first) And trust me, these two are very very wholesome and kind to each other, she just got pissed off by his shenanigans. They are my otp and I will talk about them a lot 🤣
