What I've Learned (in RPGs): 2023

This list will be updated as my mind updates with different thoughts.

No one is as in love with your original character as you are.

"Gossip Girl" may be the most influential program for RPGs of the past twenty years.

"Gossip Girl" is also juvenile and ridiculous. Its empowered being faceless, rude and irresponsible with dealing with others.

Our genre and fandom is rather intimate. We share our thoughts. Our dreams. Our idealized selves and our flawed behavior. Depends on how good the mask is that day.

We've created friends, family and connections in this genre that really can't be explained to anyone who's not in it. I love you all equally. Some of us just drink more than others.

Somewhere in Insanejournal, Tumblr or Livejournal's servers is the greatest love story ever written. And five more just like it. Everyone has a different opinion on what it is.

Its probably not Garrett Bischoff and Velvet Sky. In case you're wondering.

I'm still amazed that canon on this forum can be traced back to 2000 and before. Prior to that, its fan-fiction roots on sites long gone to nothing but memory.

Rancho RandyCandi was down the road from my old job. Yes, I've met that couple. You'd know them quickly.

Every now and again, I wonder if the Doanes still meet up to "catch up". That would be a very interesting Netflix film. Or an awful Tubi one.

Pairings and chemistry are lightning in a bottle often times. Just as often, it cannot be captured nor duplicated. Also, some of y'all are excellent at the smuts.

Ted Jr breaks my heart. But lets be honest, we all thought it would have been Randy, amirite?

I truly hope that Mellie and Danielle are happy. Because I sure as shit didn't help there.

“Okay.  Around and about here.  The game of th’evening is called “Chase The Dragon”.  10 to twenny, and bullseye after that.  If you hit them, good on ya.  If you don’t...looks like you’ll be buying next rounds.”  Ashton Smith was holding court throughout one of the seated areas, noting coworkers both on-camera and off.  A bottle of Newcastle in hand, he explained all the rules.  “Hey there, you wit’ da long hair.  Lets see how the Knightsbridge gals throw the tings.”  He turned his accent up noticably between alcohol and off-hours conversation.  One of the darts is offered to @knightsbridgecouture​ with the non-dangerous end out first.  

Turning Back the Clock...

First week of June, 2019 was a very interesting time frame for the NXT United Kingdom Brand.  Two weeks away from a major event at the UK’s Download Fest had the entire fledgeling brand on pins and needles.  This event means the eyes of Europe and the world’s Rock scene would be on the show, and visibility of the talent would be through the roof.  

The proper solution to the nerves and yips?  Plenty of social lubricant.  Namely in pint format.  General Manager Johnny Saint had given both locker rooms, and the production teams individual lectures at length.  Recent hostilities between the resident British Strong Style stalwarts and the upstart faction of Eastern Europeans known as “Imperium” had caused massive division in the roster.  Saint , along with his harried assistant Sid Scala, had laid down the “rules of engagement” for behaviours outside of work.  NXT Talent were encouraged to be young, have fun, and drink heavily.  But they were expected to attend every show, stay from opening tape to final bell, and be professionals, sober or not.  

Outward hostilities were absolutely forbidden among civilians and at local gathering holes.  For example, “Knight & Garter” was an impromptu pub event the weekend of these shows in central Leicester, and the talent were chomping at the bit to attend.  Good food, Football on the screens, and their natural competition would make or break the crew.  Something Hamburg, German’s Marcel Barthel seemed to note early.  He lost the vote earlier for Imperium’s group outfiting.  The foursome decided on regular clothing instead of their matching tracksuits due to Fabian having noted that it was “fucking stupid”.  

Having been denied a round of Warsteiners by the bartender, and returning with an armful of local pints, along with a fried Scotch egg that he eyed warily, Marcel returned to his squad’s table.  A toast came about from its most recent member Alexander Wolfe (an old RingKampf mate), and the gentlemen began their evenings happenings, giving careful glances to the location of Trent Seven, Pete Dunne and any wayward pool cues.

This is the story of…well, plenty.  A multi-year, multi-muse RPG journal who’s writer has traveled many a game.  And I’m always open to “just one more story”, which leads to trouble.  One thing I’ve learned is never to decline a ship/story.  Sometimes the most amazing ones find one another on utter accident.  So if you’re reading this, say hello or poke in with a thought or two.  Always open to a community as long as its well written and mature as well.
