I really like the idea of John just casually saying something extremely fucked up that happened to him during his childhood or time in the military and everyone else just kind of stopping and staring at him

The others all seem to be at least somewhat aware that the things that happened to them were awful but John just assuming the things he experienced were normal and not a big deal makes perfect sense to me

Jake was never a cuddler but Bradley Bradshaw is a furnace and Jake usually has to stay at the other end of their bed so he doesn’t melt away during the hot summer nights back in San Diego.

It’s quite a convenient feature to have when they get into a blizzard on vacation, though, and the heat in their cabin goes out in the middle of the night.

"Now you want to be the little spoon?" Bradley asks, amusement ringing through in his voice even though he’s already eagerly pulling Jake against his bare chest.

"Shut up. It’s not my fault you run at 500 degrees, Bradshaw." He pushes further into Bradley’s hold and lets out a relieved breath. His body breaks out into a shiver when the heat of the embrace hits him fully.

Bradley tucks Jake in even further; presses a kiss to the back of his neck. "Always knew I was hot," he says against Jake’s skin and Jake huffs out a laugh.

"If this is the moment of realization for you, I’ve done something wrong until now."

"Hmhm, first thing I ever heard. You should do something about that…"

Jake rolls his eyes and catches Bradley’s traveling hand against his stomach, squeezing it into place. He yawns, ready to go back to sleep instead of picking Bradley up on his offer of a midnight tumble. "I’ll start with that right tomorrow. Now, back to sleep."

Another kiss brushes against his shoulder and Jake notes happily that the shudders wracking his body have finally died down. He pushes back into Bradley‘s touch and silently congratulates himself on his taste in men.

Furnace hot and physically hot. He truly won the lottery. 🔥

Jake squints down at his phone, his heart warming in his chest when he looks at the video thumbnail and catches sight of an orange monstrosity that he knows to be one of Bradley’s favorite hawaiian shirts, in front of what he suspects to be the piano in Bob’s basement.

His heart not only yearns for the man in the picture but also for the easy nights spent with his squad shooting the shit at Bob’s. Or at Fanboy’s. Or at his and Bradley’s home.

He’s on a special assignment and so done with carrier life. He was supposed to be home weeks ago, but shit hit the fan and his return to San Diego was delayed and delayed again. He has half a mind to walk up to his CO and tell her to put him on the next flight out, consequences be damned.

He hits play and he has to increase the volume, the noise of the ship and the jets taking off above drowning out the quiet piano notes. It takes a moment for Jake to place the song but when he does, he bites his lower lip, fond with amusement.

Bradley can be so melodramatic sometimes, and Jake loves that sentimental side of his partner as much as all the other parts that make up Bradley 'Rooster' Bradshaw.

He listens to Bradley perform the song, not singing along like the show-off he is.

Phoenix: men.

Jake laughs. Fair enough. He had planned to call Bradley anyway; it was the reason he dug out his phone from his locker as soon as the announcement over the PA system said they were out of international waters.

He hits call. It only rings once before Bradley picks up.

"Don’t believe a word out of that woman’s mouth," Bradley says, sounding a little breathless and a little annoyed. Jake smiles to himself, pleased to hear Bradley’s voice and get a little attitude on top.

"She provided video evidence, darlin'."

"Betrayed by my own friends."

"So you been pining for me, huh?"

"I plead the fifth."

Jake’s smile widens. "For what it’s worth, I’ve been pining for ya too."

Bradley is silent for a moment. "I just miss you."

"Miss you too."

"Come home?"

"Doin' my best."
