Hey guys, since my previous post on Morning Routines was very well received,  I decided to make a night version. This small infographic thingy outlines the things I do at night to prep myself for rest, as well as some other things you could try to ensure you get a good night’s sleep. Hope this helps, and don’t hesitate to drop me an ask if you have any questions!
P.S. the typefaces used are Bromello and Montserrat

hey guys! it’s currently spring break for many, although most people’s spring breaks have already passed. i scheduled this post, so right now i’m on vacation in washington dc!
i travel quite a lot so here are my tips for how to study while you are traveling. keep in mind that these are for your average vacation trip, not heavy duty travel like backpacking.
Tumblr media
this is legitimately the hardest thing in the world. if you’re not a stationery addict, you can skip this part. (although i hope you keep reading!)
condense your giant pen collection into a small bag and include only these things:
1 mechanical pencil & graphite for it
an eraser
1 black pen for writing
2-3 colored pens and 2 highlighters (in one color scheme)
if you need other supplies for a specific subject (like i would need a protractor because i have geometry) bring that too.
Tumblr media
this probably seems self explanatory but it’s really really really important. make sure you have chunks of time set aside to do schoolwork, most likely in the evenings after you return from whatever fun activity you did that day. if you’re a morning person, try working in the early morning! i find myself to be more focused and alert right after breakfast.
if you need a planning system, perhaps bullet journaling? [my bullet journal tag] you can also use printable daily planners which can be found in my printables tag.
Tumblr media
if you have online versions of your textbook, use those instead of lugging around a ten pound deadweight. chances are, you’re not going to use that whole thing. scan in the pages you think you’ll need, or even the whole book if you want to be extra prepared.
make sure you also have what you need on your phone.
a white noise app [ noisli | relax melodies ]
download study music [ my study playlist on spotify ]
bring earbuds or headphones !!!
bring earplugs if you need them
make sure you’ve brought your phone charger
Tumblr media
you can easily find a general packing list on google, so i’m not going to include one. here are some specific things you may need for studying:
book light - you don’t want to drain your cell phone battery because you need its flashlight on to work in the dark
clipboard - if you’re outside or somewhere else without a flat surface to write on, this will save your work
loose leaf paper - not a notebook! too much unnecessary poundage
i would consider myself a seasoned traveler (not really, but i’ve traveled more than the average person), and here are some tips for traveling.
wear a cross body bag and keep it in front of you to prevent being pickpocketed. if you must, bring a high quality backpack. (i have a vendetta against jansports and their zippers so i don’t recommend those.)
drink lots and lots of water - overstated but so incredibly important in keeping you healthy and preventing severe jet lag
have fun at your destination! you’re out there to do what there is to do, not study all day! you can study at home.

For subjects like history, geography, business and even the sciences like biology and chemistry, a lot of content needs to be memorised! These are just a few of my tips on how to memorise all of the information you need before your exam.
Repeating over time- In the best scenario, studying for a test three weeks ahead is the most optimal way to study. Usually, the process is memorising chunks two weeks before and doing past papers the week of. However, more often than not, this doesn’t end up happening because the weeks get hectic/busy so the max time before a test is probably 1.5-2 weeks. The next few points are more catered to that time period!
Palm cards- This I feel is the most common way of memorising things, by putting information on palm cards and taking them around with you to study on the train, bus, or wherever you go. The cons of this is to make sure that you don’t copy the information onto them in a passive way. You learn it over again when you write it out so make that opportunity count!
Teach content to others- I have learnt over the past few years that this is one of my favourite ways to memorise- give a family member, friend or anyone (even your pets) the notes and teach them the topic, point by point. If you can’t explain a topic in a simple way where the other person can understand, it indicates that you haven’t learnt the information properly or enough to explain it in a test situation.
Film yourself- Another of my personal favourites, read over your information one palm card/paragraph/page at a time, turn on your phone camera or photobooth (on Mac) and film yourself talking like you’re in a Youtube video. If you do this a lot, it really helps because it’s almost as if you’re talking to someone else, and speaking it out loud helps you memorise.
Writing out notes- It’s best to actually type out/write out notes as you go in class, but before tests I usually handwrite them out again. This emphasises this in your mind and you can also ensure that you have learnt everything that is on the syllabus. Making them pretty is a plus!
Watch videos and Podcasts- Youtube has so many great videos on any topic. My favourites are Khan Academy (most subjects) , Crashcourse (science and history), Lisa Study Guides (English), Stated Clearly (Biology) and Eddie Woo (Maths). If you’re a visual/auditory learner, these really help because it feels like you are learning the lesson again.
Active textbook reading- Read over the text books and annotate/highlight. However, you need to ensure that you are actually reading the text, not just highlighting the words.
I hope this helped anyone who has trouble memorising, good luck with all of your exams!
