Headcanon of the week: The Hero of the Wild rarely sleeps and survives on "microsleep"

Microsleep, or "micro-naps" is where a person falls asleep for less than 15 seconds. The signs are not always obvious. The sleeper's eyes might even be open. So neither Link nor observers realize he's doing it. They think he has periods of dissociation or just "checks out" sometimes.

Relation to canon: Not canon, but probably canon-compliant. He only seems to actually sleep in beds. When he's on the road, he can sit by a campfire for a length of time, but it's not implied that he sleeps.

So I see him squatting all night, unknowingly taking micro-naps with his eyes open. And microsleeping throughout the day as well.

With sleep hygiene like that, you bet he's willing to fork over 80 rupees for a water bed.

Why I like this headcanon: It gives him character. He never really got his circadian rhythm back after his 100 year nap.

Silly Game Time: When you see SANDWICH, what are the first and second kinds of sandwiches that come to mind?

Silly Game Time: Through a cartoonish series of events, in one month you're going to be taking part in THE BEST TALENT SHOW [this town] HAS EVER SEEN! (in order to save the ... I dunno, free health clinic for orphans and puppies, or whatever)

What's your 1-2 minute performance going to be? (Please note that made-up, nonsensical answers are totally accepted here at SGT.) Are you doing it with anyone else, or giving a solo performance?

The stage fright is real just reading this HAHA uhhhh. If the events leading to this are cartoonish, then so is "reality", and I can do whatever I want. I shall go from having no talent show type talents, to.... Tap dancing while juggling flaming items. At the end, I'll perfectly toss all the flaming sticks into some basin things on the sides of the stage to light those up with fire, climb a tall thing, summon a horse, flip down onto its back, and ride away into the night.

So. So here's the thing. I don't know if I have an all time one and done favorite character (or goober, I feel like goober is a category of character, idk, whatever)

Like, I love So Many Links but idek if I could pick a favorite for sure among them. If someone asked me if Metal Sonic is my favorite character I don't think I'd say yes.

And then there's all of my OWN characters. Is it Crystal, the OC I've had the longest, who has been with me in some iteration or other for probably close to a decade and a half of my life? Is it Pikk for all the work I put into his culture, his world, his language, etc? Is it West for his personality, sweet lil guy as he is?

Or rolling back around to my current hyperfixation, could it be one of my own Links?

I feel like if this was "favorite character in (specific fandom)" there would be a slightly greater chance I'd have an answer but even then LOL I dunno if I could just pick one, depending on the fandom. I am one of the most indecisive people, I fear 😔

So she started out aaaages ago as an X-Men Evolution fan OC, and then I rebooted her as a Maximum Ride fan OC, and then I rebooted her into my own original thing (Rev M). She's aged anywhere between 15 and her early 20s depending on what part of her story she's in, or which AU it is, or a million other things, don't think too hard about it.

(last one has outdated coloring but her coloring has only changed slightly - to be more realistic as far as albinism goes, especially in the eyes. And no, I do not have a consistent art style leave me alone)

She's a grumpy, prickly sourpuss who pushes everyone away because she's afraid of getting close to others and hurting them. Super nihilistic. Sarcastic, brutal, outright mean at times, but like. When she cares, she cares deeply, and hates herself for it.

She was a lab experiment that escaped (and lost some people in the process), and they reeeeallly want her back because she could possibly be the cure to anything and everything from cancer to the common cold. She's got a perfect immune system (due to a very delicate balance of cancer-like reproduction of cells and extremely overactive levels of apoptosis) along with aging slowly/having an estimated longer life span because of telemorase and a bunch of science things I won't get more in depth into. I went a little nuts in the biology research for her though LOL

She's also got this other dimensional energy (from a parallel sort of dimension) living within her called Entox. It is sort of sentient, but more instinctual than intelligent. It considers her body as host and lashes out when she's stressed or upset. It refuses to let her die. And she can control it to come extent, but using too much exhausts both her energy and its energy. This black energy can like, change shape, change whether it's solid or not, etc etc etc.

How she wound up with that in her has to do with the labs she came from but that's a whole other story.

The more important part is just that she has accidentally hurt and killed people with this power because she can't control it very well, so she's scared to get close to people. It reacts to her emotions, and she's already a temperamental person - unfortunately the Entox only influences her own feelings to be more reactive and temperamental and stuff. It's like a vicious cycle.

It does not help that she's being haunted by the ghost of her dead childhood best friend (who turned out to not be dead but boy did he come back different) except he's not a ghost but actually a very, very poor copy that she made out of said Entox when she was just a grieving, panicked 11 year old fresh after watching her bestie die. He's a little too alive and sentient for her to get rid of (like. Literally. She tried. She doesn't control that Entox anymore, he controls himself) but also juuuust tied enough to the Entox inside of her that he has to stay within a certain range of her. Thankfully, he can tuck himself away in that parallel/pocket dimension area and be unseen (though he'll still see and hear everything), but he doesn't always want to hide away from her view!!! Bcuz he love her! He care! He also get lonely! :((((

She named him BEN, btw, which stands for Black Energy Nuisance. (She mostly feels guilty that he exists at all. He's alive but not completely. He's brainless. He's not all there. It's her fault. She copes by lashing out at him <3)

But yeah she can hold (and does hold) so much trauma 🥰 so much loss and grief 🥰🥰🥰 my favorite little punching bag of an oc hehehehe

I LOVE HER! 🩵 She may possibly be one of my most fleshed out OCs 🤔 which. I mean, I've had her for roughly half my life, give or take, and there was like, a solid 5 or so years where she was on my mind a ton and I was doing a lot of work on her and other characters in the Rev M universe. And I guess a big part of why I love her - aside from having a lot of features and tropes I love in a character (prickly exterior/soft interior, sarcastic, afraid of own powers, etc etc etc) - is just that she's so well developed. Like. Lots of nuance and depth and detail that largely tends to come with just a lot of time dedicated to it. And being the first oc to really stick around after all these years... I guess she's got a special place in my heart.

Wow it was kinda refreshing to ramble about her again HAHA I've infodumped about her so many times to different people over the years but I guess it was time to do that again...

Out of everyone in the chain, who would you go on a late-night McDonald’s run with, and what would you guys order? If you’re not a huge Mickey D’s fan, feel free to switch it up to whatever fast food joint you like the most !

I never eat at McDonald's due to an unfortunate uhh idk if it was food poisoning or what, but an unfortunate childhood incident. I will go ahead and pick Wendy's instead.

I'd pick Twilight because he's nice and easy going. I think conversation between us could be comfy. I would either get a 10p nuggie with fries (medium? Idk), or the 5 dollar biggie bag thing with the jr bacon burger as my choice (sans lettuce and tomato). Idk what to drink. Sprite or something probably?

And Twilight, hm, what would Twilight order.... Lemme go stare at a Wendy's menu, hold on.

Why can I picture him getting saucy nuggs... That or like a chicken sandwich maybe?? Idk LOL the thought of daring him to eat a big bacon classic triple burger crossed my mind but that's a challenge I'd rather pose to Wild (he'd succeed easily). What’s your favorite linked universe fic you’ve read + any recommendations?

Most of my recs are fluffy or comedy because I tend to gravitate towards those genres these days (but not all! There are some emotional or angsty ones in here)

Okay immediately off the top of my head is The Violet Incidents series by @bokettochild. Absolutely hilarious. Geniunely one of if not my actual favorite LU series. It's just. So funny every time. Idk. I'm obsessed. If you haven't seen it already, I recommend watching the animatic linked in the notes in the first chapter of the first fic in the series. I came across that animation before the fic series and boy howdy was I delighted to find out there was an entire series based off a silly animatic that lives rent free in my head! (Do check out their other fics tho! I've not read many yet but have plenty in my To Read pile and have heard fantastic things about so many of their fics.)

I am only one fic through the Alterity series but like. Holy smokes. It's SO good. Time travel, meeting past selves... (Constellate by the same author is also good so far! They're @toyouhellohowareyou on Tumblr!)

Alone Together - Four centric! Character study mixed with some of his first interactions with the group mixed with interactions with them in general and the struggles of his being Four in One. This fic lives in my brain. It tumbles around in there endlessly. I'm chewing on tables hoping one day I'll get more of it. It carried me through writing my A Problem of Four fic because every gosh darn time I sat down to read this fic I'd feel inspired to write Four within like less than half a chapter. It took me AGES to get through the 7 chaps because it gave me so much inspo okay. It is not finished, it is not, but good grief I'm biting at the bit for more <33333 absolutely happy to have the 7 precious chapters that I do have though HAHA

I probably haven't necessarily read every single fic these two, but everything I have read by them are great-

mmelete (especially the who has kids series and age shuffle series for comedy, but the traumaville ones are also big oof / @mmelete on Tumblr!)

the primordials by @rebornofstars is also very good so far, Time meeting the chain and thinking ohhh these must all be gods huh, and they look at this cryptid freak of a man and go ohhhh he must be a god huh (they've got other good fics too)

Another crack/silly one is the Hero of Man series... Based on a Hero of Man Standing Emoji 🧍‍♂️ joke. It's goofy but it cracks me up okay, it brings joy.

Take Your Own Advice by @ixtaek is basically Legend thieving other ppl's magic stuff and uhh regretting it lol

By the above author, Child's Play , aka Wild and Flora get kid-ified and now work together to gaslight the chain because neither of them want Link to be spirited away on another adventure yet!! They are uhh just little kids! Totally normal little kids, definitely not the hero and princess, don't even worry about it.

It's a Secret to Everybody - Just cute downfall duo fluff. Time travel shenanigans, some fantastic and really funny lines... Involves Legend getting kicked through time and disguising himself as, well... Perhaps the title says enough. (By @zolanort !)

I Know That You're There (So Don't be Sad) - Aight so I told you it's not ALL fluff and comedy over here. Just mostly. Well? This is your stop if you want a Legend having horrible hallucinations while Wars can only watch, and then Wars gets his own whump afterwards!! Yippee, angst. (Happy ending tho)

And here's a fic that makes me want to cry and sob and throw up, it's changed my brain chemistry, it's altered the way I see Warriors forever and ever AND IM ONLY ON CHAPTER 28??? Steel Can't Carry Me Now. I have to take breaks from it. Okay. Yeah. Enough said.
