early supernatural is actually so funny because sam n dean were dumbass twenty year olds burning gas in a classic car rolling up to crime scenes in five layers of plaid, a carhartt jacket, and their chippewa boots pretending to be fbi agents. all while frantically flipping thru their notebooks as that weeks monster attacks them

the fact that sam had to have packed the picture of john & mary in front of their house in lawrence when he left for stanford (either right before/anticipating the fight with john, or right after, blood high, furious) and put it on his dresser in his apartment with jess. he had to look at it every time he walked in or out of his bedroom. a picture of the mom he tells dean in that very episode that he wouldn't know what she looked like if it wasn't for pictures, and of the dad who all but disowned him.

the fact that sam has NO pictures of dean, not even digital ones. not ones jessica could’ve stumbled upon on accident or shown directly. no pictures of them growing up, no pictures of dean for his contact on sam's phone, no carnival photobooth strips, or a stray fake ID in his wallet. so that when dean shows up it takes a second for jessica to connect the name.

this means something...but i’m not sure what.
