bennie had a pretty small line, mostly just kids wanting cotton candy flowers that she had mastered enough to speed through them. one of the kids spotted lucas’ jeans, and giggled at it, making her laugh too. “dude, you look like shit,” she joked, laughing harder at her terrible pun. Once her line died down and she was able to step away for a few, she turned to him, shaking her head. “Part of me wants to make you suffer but I’ll be nice today,” she said, grinning. She pulled her white sweatpants off, only a tight, booty showing pair of booty shorts underneath. “I haven’t given anyone something to look at and fantasize about it in a while,” she teased, handing him the pants.

lucas rolled his eyes to bennies pun. he was so glad that he could change now, because honestly he was tired of kids and people looking at him with his messy jeans. he guessed he didn’t look very professional with his jeans. lucas raised his brows when he took a glimpse of bennies butt, but quickly turned his eyes back to her face.

“that’s a shame. people are really missing out” lucas said without a emotion, flashing a quick grin before he took the sweatpants from bennie. he just liked teasing. this was usual between them. since him and bennie were both so similar with jokes and personalities. lucas loved to be a little flirty, knowing how well they both knew each other. “what are your plans for tonight by the way?”

“happens a lot more than people would think actually” lucas started to think of all the times that he had been hit by or flirted by a customer. sometimes he didn’t know how to react to it. if he should be flattered or creeped out. one time he had even given his number to a girl that had bought some ice cream from him. she had never messaged after that. lucas thought that maybe that was good. 

“but i feel you, once this single mom, quite young, came to me with his, about four-year-old son and invited me over to “have some fun”, with his son standing right next to her! can you believe that?”

“you’ve really put things into perspective. i am a very attractive guy and i’m flattered people make the effort to hit on me.” murphy rolled his eyes and let out a small sigh. “that’s what i meant. or they’ll do it in front of their husband or wives, and i’m just thinking if they have any respect for their significant other.”

“start to think positive and take it as a compliment. at least you have to be decently good looking if people make the effort to hit on you. that’s what i think” lucas closed his eyes for a while because the sun was shining to his face. he took a sip of his water bottle. “even though it gets to a disgusting point when it’s forty-year-old moms with their family. happened to me once and i don’t think i’ll ever get over it.”

“i don’t know what’s worse. having kyna’s kindergarten teacher hitting on me or random park goers doing it?”

“i mean, i’ve hooked up on the skee ball machine a couple of times when i first started working here,” he admitted cooly with a shrug. “you could say i’ve matured and have expanded my hookup spots around the park… but wait — have you really never hooked up here?”

lucas looked shocked. even though the hooking up wasn’t a surprise when it came from dominick, he probably wouldn’t be able to look at the skee ball machines the same ever again.

“i prefer to have sex somewhere that isn’t covered by cotton candy and bubble gum, thank you very much” lucas giggled. honestly, it was surprising thinking about the number of times that he had hooked up, but not one of them had happened at the park. yet. “also thank you from taking the fun of playing skee ball here from me”

Dani couldn’t help but frown as she heard the giggling coming from Lucas, Even though he had every right to find it hilarious, she didn’t like the idea of being laughed at.

“I’m positive they don’t like me.” She responded with a firm shake of her head as she tried to keep walking and find somewhere to wash up. “Because I work the ride its my fault they got sick and so now they have to punish me for it. If they suffer then so must I.” she sighed dramatically hoping to at least lighten up the situation for herself if he was going to get a kick out of her misfortune.

“were they expensive?” lucas asked, nodding towards the shoes. the situation really didn’t look like fun. he liked dressing up, and he didn’t want to think of the day when he would drop some ice cream on syrup on his favorite work shoes. they were also the only work shoes he owned since he really didn’t have the money to buy other ones. maybe he would have, but he much rather spent it on art equipment and alcohol. 

“the exact reason why i didn't want to work at a ride. even though i could use a change from scooping ice cream all day. my wrists are not thanking me at busy days”

a warm summer day would've been a blast if the situation was anything but this. lucas had tried to tie his light blue jean jacket to cover the stain of syrup, that was becoming a sticky mess the more he spent time in the sun. he craved a cigarette and looked at his phone to see if he would have the time to have one after seeing bennie. when he got to the cotton candy stand, the boy stopped beside it to wait and let the paying customers go first. he was trying to look down to see if the syrup looked really that bad, because he really didn’t need any more kids to come and laugh at him and his - now brown - jeans.

lucas walked to the stand the first chance he got.”how’s it been here today? busy?” he asked bennie. his brown curls we’re covering his eyes a little, so he pulled them behind his ear. “it’s been such an annoying day since it’s so hot, the ice cream literally melts to my hands”
