27 April 1945 Podcast
The podcast 27 April 1945 // Part 04 presents my two audio compositions “Friktion” and “Eduard Wallnöfer Platz”. The performance of the two pieces was planned as part of the concert evening "27 April 1945" on 9 November 2020 at the Ferdinandeum in Innsbruck and had to be cancelled due to covid. In addition to the two compositions, a shortened version of Robert Musil's 1927 memorial essay and an interview with myself and Dr. Franz Gratl can be heard. The podcast is in German.

Voids Art in public space, Billboards & Postcards July & August 2019 in Innsbruck, Landeck, Schwaz, Kufstein, commissioned by art in public space Tyrol.
The work was realized within the framework of „Year of Maximilian“ - on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the death day of Emperor Maximilian I. The poster and postcard series Voids is inspired by the woodcut prints of the Triumphal Procession of Emperor Maximilian. The various empty spaces and unfinished elements of the original prints pose key areas of interest. Since the prints were never completed, there are numerous gaps in the 147 sheets. These are visible as black sections – areas initially left blank for inscriptions but never finalised. For Voids, eight graphics are extracted from the woodcuts that present these gaps as independent works. In contrast to the opulent prints of the Triumphal Procession, the reworked graphics are kept simple and abstract in black and white. The mode of presentation of these works as billboards and postcards in public spaces is a reference to the original intention of the woodcuts as a means of propaganda proclaiming the glory and splendour of Emperor Maximilian. In contrast, the graphics depicted in Voids provide a subtle intervention, or rather a disturbance. In their incompleteness, they allude to the many blanks and inconsistencies inherent in historiography

Come Along
A new temporary sound installation entitled Come Along (commissioned by KÖR art in public space Vienna)  at the U2 subway station Aspern Nord in Vienna.
Tumblr media
Synchronised with the arrival of the subway line U2, the processually transformed and looped song with the text "Come Along, Come Along, Make No Delay" is played back in front of the Aspern Nord subway station. An acoustic welcome committee for the visitors of this absurd place on an open field including a subway connection. The chorus line to be heard comes from the song "Uncle Sam's Farm" from the year 1850 which was written to promote the Oregon Trail, i.e. the settlement or territorial expansion into the so-called Wild West. "Come Along" is the soundtrack for the emerging settlement of the Seestadt Aspern. A newly built urban district of Vienna. As the various construction sites in the distance suggest, the city will reach the subway station in the next few years.  In contrast to the approaching city, the song of the installation dissolves during the 6-month running time and transforms over time beyond recognition. "Come Along" is sponsored by KÖR Kunst im öffentlichen Raum Wien. Kindly supported by Wien 3420 aspern development AG. DATES & DURATION  23.10.2019 – 30.04.2020  Between 08:00 - 21:00 - synchronised with subway U2 arrival times.  LOCATION  In front of the subway station Aspern Nord  Nelson Mandela Platz 1 1220 Wien

Disposition
I’m happy to announce the release of Disposition - a limited edition audio publication including a USB device.
"Disposition" is an artistic, acoustic and musical reflection on the largest open-air organ in the world: the Heroes' Organ in Kufstein/Austria.
It is not only the organ’s enormous size and vast dimensions that distinguish it – and which aroused my interest in it – but also its special (tonal) intent and origin.
Assembled in 1931, this organ was conceptualised as a sonorous memorial with a "völkisch" (i.e. ethno-nationalistic), German Nationalist orientation and resounds daily without any objection, examination of its history or reference to its political significance.
The album “Disposition” is part of a limited edition publication with the same title. The artist book and the enclosed USB flash drive (containing the album “Disposition”) encompasses the product of my artistic dealings with the Kufstein Heroes’ Organ. Together with the accompanying texts by Franz Gratl, Michael Gerhard Kaufmann and myself, the artistic exploration presented in this publication reveals the chequered past and present of this instrument and monument in addition to scrutinising its usage, context and political significance as well as its features and aesthetics.
Can be listened for free or ordered via bandcamp:
