Heat
*WARNING: PURE CHEESE GROSSNESS also this isn’t edited yet so soz im lazy 😂 this is inspired by basically every fan fiction but especially that riarkle one that I cant find (if anyone finds it be sure to link me!) on with the fanfic*
EDIT: the lovely @yugen-escapism found the Fanfic and it can be found here: http://blueyedpandas.tumblr.com/post/155009354343/heat by the very talented @blueyedpandas (go read hers it’s a lot better)
“Okay, then turn left when you get to the - NOW LUCAS!” Maya screeched from the passengers seat as Lucas completely missed the turn which led them further up the desolate road.
“Great job, bozzo! What’s your next genius plan now?” Maya clenched her jaw in frustration, shooting daggers at the Texan sitting next to her. His eyes rolled so far back he thinks it’s possible that he saw his own brain. “Look, we’ll turn left at the next exit and see where it takes us.” Lucas said, sighing deeply as he put his indicator on to turn left.
The next road seemed even more desolate and dark than the other, only a few streetlamps and the lights of the houses sprinkled along the street to provide a little brightness. It was late, around 2 or 3am and both of their phones were flat dead with the constant addiction to tech prone to their generation. They drove slowly in silence up the road until it came to a dead end.
Lucas sighed once again, but deeper this time. They had really got themselves into a situation this time and New York winters weren’t going easy on them. He got out the car (much to Maya’s calls of protest) to take in their surroundings and see if there was anywhere they could find refuge or at least charge their phones. However, as soon as he slammed the car door, a light sprinkling of snow began to descend and he knew then that it would not be safe to drive in those conditions at this time so he made his way back to the brooding blonde who had wrapped her arms around herself as tight as she could.
“So, Huckleberry, what’s the plan?” She said, twizzling her whole body to meet his eyes. “There isn’t one. We can’t drive ‘cause it’s just started to snow and both of our phones are dead. We’re basically stuck here until morning.”
“You have got to be fucking kidding me!” Maya deadpanned him, her features curled up in annoyance. “Yes! I’m totally joking and that’s why I look so god damn pissed, great job Maya!” He sarcastically let the sentence fall from his lips as Maya mimicked him under her breath.
They sat there in silence for a good 2 minutes, a world record by Maya and Lucas’ standards. Maya’s creamy skin was dotted with goosebumps and he could see her lips turning blue as she shivered dramatically in her seat.
“You cold?” He asked, trying to break the ice (but considering the temperatures, he doubted that would work).
“No shit, Huckleberry. It feels like jack frost is pinching my butt with those razor sharp icicle -claws of his!”
“Weird analogy but alright.” He dismissed. He pondered for a second, wondering whether to give her his jacket or not. “Do you want my jacket?” He asked cautiously as not to shake the bear. She turned to him doe-eyed, clearly puzzled and very tired.
“Erm… Sure? If you aren’t using it.” She assured as he reached into the back and pulled out a hoodie that was at least twice the size of her. She pulled it over her head with a quiet word of thanks and then proceeded to pull it down which meant the end happened to reach her lower thigh.
“Rick? I think it’s a little on the big side.” She stated, looking down at the sweater that was longer than most of the dresses she owned. He couldn’t help but burst out laughing when he glanced over his shoulder and saw her petit frame being swallowed by his jumper that was just the right size on him. He wanted to grab his phone and take a picture but her death stare and lack of power put him off. They were content for a while, Maya humming a tune and hugging her knees for warmth. As much as she hated his mocking about her size, she had to admit that the sweater was warm and she didn’t mind the smell that clung to it. It smelt like Lucas, kind of like sandalwood (@wickeryburning). She had to admit though, she was still freezing. She had only got a loose t-shirt and high waisted shorts on underneath and she also saw Lucas shiver, the outlining curve of his lip turning a pale tinge of blue.
“Huckleberrrryyy!” She whined, breaking his train of thought.
“It’s too collllld.” She continued to whine. He chuckled at her groaning, but inside was feeling the exact same way.
“Look, I might have a blanket in the back but it’s not going to fit over the both of us in the front. We’ll have to sit in the back if you want any blanket.” Lucas said, pulling the key out of the engine and getting out the car to grab the tartan blanket from the boot.
Maya huffed, but did scramble over the seats to the back and rested her head on the cold window. Lucas climbed in the back with her, blanket in tow and sat a measurable distance away from her, just so the blanket reached the tips of them both.
Had it been anyone else, she would be practically lying on top of them now. But it was Lucas. And her. Stuck in a car. Alone. It had already been awkward enough over the past few months with too many unspoken words and bottomless emotions. Sure, Lucas and Riley broke things off and though it had caused a little awkwardness the first few days, the two were happy as could be when they were simply friends (plus Riley may or may not moved her pining over to a certain scientist). Maya, however, was in denial of the fact. She had tried to persuade the two back together, but they wouldn’t budge. Riley and Lucas knew they weren’t great as a couple and were fine with it. Maya wasn’t. She insisted that they were right for each other, that they had to love each other. Maybe it was because she was scared of what would happen if they didn’t.
Anyhow, it had made the last few months awkward between Maya and Lucas. They had history that they couldn’t deny, and now that it was a free for all Maya wanted to keep order in the chaos, trying to make sure nothing changed.
A cloud of silence loomed over them, and Maya felt her cheeks begin to flush from embarrassment.
Lucas finally broke the silence. “Maya, this clearly isn’t working. You look like a snowman and I think my toes have detached from my body. I have an idea but you have to trust me.”
Maya rolled her eyes, trying to deny her lack of heat but she had to admit that she still felt like a penguin, especially as the snow began to pile up outside. “Fine. What’s your bright idea lone star?”
Lucas took a deep breath, preparing himself for a probable slap. “Skin to skin makes you considerably warmer.” He paused, studying her facial expression to see if she had caught on to his idea (she clearly hadn’t). He dared to continue.
“Soooo. I know it’s weird… But if we both took our shirts o- OW!” Yep, he had been right. She slapped him.
“I knew it! I knew you were a perv!” Maya stated, avoiding eye contact with the cowboy. He grew irritated
“Oh for God’s sake Maya! It’s -5 and I just want to be warm. I hate this just as much as you and believe me, I can’t even feel my balls.” She sniggered, but could feel the tension in his voice. He genuinely did want to be warm and not a perv.
She huffed before mumbling under her breath. “Fine, but you’re still a pervert.”
He turned around to face the window, lifting the hem of his t-shirt up and over his head before throwing it in the middle, averting his eyes from where Maya was tentatively tapping the hem of her shirt. Eventually, she lifted it straight over her head, shivering as she felt the chill hit her hard. She turned to face Lucas and did a double take as she took in the vision before her (she also thanked her lucky stars she wore her nice bra today)
He had a tan torso, and a six pack clear along his stomach. Sure, she knew he was probably in shape since he did so much football but she already felt herself getting warm from the situation. He was just the same, surprised that she had outlines of abs from where she had been doing a thirty day challenge. And, he couldn’t help his eyes wander around… Places.
“Hey! Eyes up here you perv!” “I could say the same to you, shortstack.”
Her cheeks flushed a deeper shade of pink and she tried to cover it by making conversation.
“Well… That was pointless, I feel colder. I’m putting my shirt bac-” “Maya, its called skin to skin for a reason. You just sitting there isn’t going to help - you need to actually be, you know,… Touching me.”
“Fuck my life.” She mumbled under her breath before shuffling closer. He stretched his body across the backseat though his feet hung off the end. She top-tailed with him, her head where his feet met the edge. He gave her a pointed look as if to say “really?” And took her hand causing her to pull it away like a ninja and make her own way to where he lay.
She rested her back very lightly on his stomach, her hair brushed to the side so that it lay across the length of his shoulders and her head facing towards the seat in front of them. She had never been this close to Lucas before, and she thought her heart might just pound out of her chest.
She could feel his warm breath on her neck, smell is cologne, feel his fingers in the tips of her hair. It was a sensory overload and she thought she might just pass out. He pulled the blanket over the two of them and Maya found herself gravitating even closer towards him (if that were possible) so that she could have as much warmth as possible. Her skin felt on fire as she nuzzled into his shoulder and then his arm was around her waist and she didn’t even try to move. Her finger found it’s way to his stomach and began tracing the lines of his abs. Her breath hitched as the grip on her waist tightened and rolled her so her head rested just under his chin, on his chest.
She felt oddly safe in his big arms, his fingers running through her wild locks. He feels kind of nervous, but he can’t help the smile when her eyes flutter and she takes a big yawn. There’s a few stars he can see out the window, and it smells kind of Smokey with a scent of cold like when your around a campfire with all your friends late at night without a care in the world. He can feel Maya’s pink nose against his bare chest, chilling him as she nuzzles further into him.
“Shortstack?”
His voice is low, almost a whisper. She hears him though, making a small whimper to let him know he had her attention.
“Do you ever think about us? You know… What we could have been if it hadn’t got this messy?”
Maya’s eyes shoot open quickly in surprise, but she covers it well by pretending to rub them.
“Well. Yeah I guess.” She shrugs her shoulders gently.
“But there’s nothing we can do now. You two are p-”
“Perfect for each other? ” he finishes her sentence and for the first time she meets her eyes with his, swallowing the familiar lump she feel emerging in her throat.
“Maya. You know me and Riley aren’t perfect for each. Just accept it. There’s someone else I like anyway.”
She turns away from him with a big sigh, replaying in her mind that hope is for suckers. “Yeah? Who might the lucky girl be?” She asks with pretend interest, tracing the lines of his torso once again.
He taps her chin lightly so her eyes are looking straight at his, nowhere to run or hide. Two souls connected with so many years of unspoken words and yet they’re barely touching, without a whisper they say thousands of pages of words with thousands of meanings. And he can’t help but lean in and press his lips against her, relishing in the chill that isn’t from the cold snow pouring outside their window.
She feels her heart stop for a second and her hands are numb and her brain frozen in place.
“Does that answer your question?” He says, cupping her face gently between his big hands, little blonde hairs entrapped in his finger tips. She’s speechless, nodding and not exactly smiling but not exactly angered.
She lays her head back on his chest and curls into him and not a word needs to be spoken for the Lucas to know what his little one’s intimacy meant. Though her heart was pounding a mile a minute, she felt tranquil, like a peace had washed over her that she didn’t recognise.
That’s how they were found in the morning by the rest of their friends, Maya curled into his side, with Lucas’ arm protecting her, light snores from the both of them. It’s safe to say it took a lot of explaining to the 57 missed calls that their friends left.

I got a prompt from @fullwizardstrawberry for “Maya proposing to Lucas”. This has been so fun to write, and it’s longer than I anticipated, so I hope you enjoy it.
She was convinced that she met her soulmate 3 years ago to this very day. They had met at a bookstore while she was shopping for a birthday present for her best friend, Riley. She was shopping in the fiction section, on her hands and knees, because Riley had already read practically everything on the top shelf, when suddenly she felt a leg hit her side and they both toppled over. “What the-”
“Oh God, I’m so sorry. I’m sorr-” They were both attempting to stand up, brushing off the dust and dirt that somehow managed to get all over them during the fall. He cut off when he saw how her hair seemed to glow and her eyes sparkled a little bit. It sounded like it would be out of some cheesy fanfiction, but it was true.
“It’s fine. I’m fine.”
“I’m just glad you’re okay. I don’t know what I would have done if I had hurt you. The bigger you are, the harder you fall.” He was stumbling over his words, blushing like mad. He didn’t know what was going on, but he knew that it was because of this girl.
“I’m Maya.” He just wanted to know what was going through her head. It was almost as if he could see the gears turning in her head.
“Lucas.” It came out strange, like it wasn’t really his name.
“Nice to meet you Lucas. Now if you’ll excuse me-” She bent down to get back to her books, but stopped when she heard his voice again.
“Let me take you out to coffee.”
“What?” Her eyes became squinty, and her right eyebrow raised like he had somehow just asked her an impossible question.
“I want to get some coffee with you.” The astounded look didn’t look leave her face.
“Why?”
“I-you-um. I knocked you over and I want to make up for it.” The blush continued creeping, traveling up his neck and onto his ears.
“Like a date?” She said, smirking.
“I mean, only-only if you want it to be.” She could tell he was flustered, but she found it absolutely adorable.
“Sure, here’s my number. I’ll pick you up at 7 tomorrow. Just text me your address.” She pulled a piece of paper out of her purse, wrote her number on it, winked, and then strutted away.
“Wait- where- I’ll see you tomorrow?” That was the first and certainly not the last that Maya Hart would leave Lucas Friar speechless.
She had left him speechless 6 other times since then.
The next one was that next night. He texted her not 20 minutes after she left the store, he couldn’t stop thinking about her. Minutes felt like hours and hours passed like days.
She picked him up at his place at 7pm sharp. She got out of her car, and walked to his front door. She didn’t even have to ring the doorbell, he opened the door right as her heel hit the last step coming up to his porch.
She was wearing a red t-shirt dress, with black chunky wedges, and he was wearing a blue polo and pressed tan khakis
“Hey babe.” she said with a wink.
“Hey,” he said, trying to keep a cool persona (and failing). He had never been called “babe” before.
Her red lipstick matched her outfit perfectly, and her eyeliner could kill. He couldn’t say anything more for several minutes. Which provided perfect material for her to tease him with later.
The 2nd time was when she kissed him (later that night), the 3rd when she showed him her art, the 4th when she sang for him, and the 5th was when she cried in front of him after telling him about her dad.
The 6th was last night.
They had moved in a couple weeks ago after dating for almost 3 years. He had asked her to move in with him after she had already been staying with him for a week. They had been talking about it, so it wasn’t totally out of the blue, but she still smiled every time he said “our apartment”.
“We need more milk,” she said groggily. She was never a morning person, but for some strange reason, Lucas was. To him, it was just natural to get up and do something like shop or workout, but Maya would rather sleep in, and do everything productive around 11 pm. That doesn’t always work for every couple but it never seemed to be a problem with them.
“I feel like we are always out of milk?”
“Huckleberry, we both eat cereal every morning. Unless we get a cow that lives in the living room,” his eyes perked up, and his eyebrow raised in attention, “no,” she interjected, “we are going to run out of milk.”
“I’ll grab some on my way home from work.”
“Thank you,” she said before she blew him a kiss. “Remember that we have date night tonight at Murphy’s.”
“Steakkk.”
“Yes, you can get steak.” She got out of her chair, her messy bun bobbing as she trudged over to him. “I love you babe. Have a good day at work.”
“Love you too.” He kissed her on the forehead and walked out the door.
She immediately perked up. “Time to prepare,” she muttered to herself. Lucas was under the impression that it was just a date night and that she would be heading into work in about a hour, but she had requested the day off, and was planning a special night. She had been thinking about it for a while, but had finally decided to propose. Nontraditional, maybe, but when had they ever been traditional?
She still had a few things left on her to-do list, she had to pick up the rings, grab some sunflowers, and pick up her dress from the dry-cleaners. She went around the city, almost in a trance, just imagining what she’s gonna say. She had never been great with words, but for some reason, everything just flowed when he was around.
She got everything ready at the restaurant, one of her best friends owned the place, and it was their date night destination every 2nd Friday of the month. They got a discount, which she liked, and he got steak, which was his favorite. She wanted to make everything seem as normal as possible, so she just texted him that “hey, work is running late, so I’ll meet you at the restaurant at 6. I brought clothes with me. hope you’re having a good day. love you.” This wasn’t really unusual, sometimes working in an art gallery made you run a little late. He sent her back a “k love you <3” and her plan was set into motion.
She started getting ready at 4:30, doing her makeup and slipping into her dress. At around 5:15 she headed over to the restaurant, arranging the sunflowers and her rings to where they needed to be. At 5:45 she went into the bathroom to give herself a pep talk.
“He loves you. You love him with all of your heart. Just follow your plan and say what you feel and everything will be alright.”
She headed back to their table, and texted him that she was there a little bit early, and that they were at their usual spot. He arrived about 5 minutes later, and walked over. He was wearing a black suit that perfectly matched her red dress that was snug around her hips, and matched her lipstick once again.
“Hello Maya Penelope Hart. You look gorgeous tonight.” He had a smirk in his eyes.
“Why hello Huckleberry McBoingBoing. You look quite dapper yourself.” They sat down at their table, and their usual waiter came over.
“The usual?” she said.
“Of course,” Maya said, giving the waiter a wink. The waiter walked away to the kitchen, and Lucas started talking about his day. Everything was going to plan.
Soon the waiter was back with his steak, and her pasta. “Here’s your meals. Hope they taste delicious.” Another wink was exchanged. Lucas raised his eyebrow at her as the waiter handed her a book along with their food.
“You might wonder what this book is. It’s the book I was grabbing when you first fell for me.” She giggled at her own pun. “Ironically, it was ‘How to Fall in Love in 10 Easy Steps’. I came back to that store later that night and bought it. I’ve been paging through every page since then. Marking it up and writing in our stories that matched all of their steps. I’ve loved you for a long time now. I haven’t needed to pick up this book in over 2 years. I picked it up last week to read through what I wrote in it, and started laughing and crying at how much we’ve learned and grown. We still argue about buying milk, and laugh at how sappy ‘The Notebook’ is, but now we live together, and I want to spend every single day with you for the rest of my life.” She got on one knee, pulled a box out of her purse, and wiped a tear out of her eye (good thing she put on waterproof eyeliner and mascara). “Lucas Friar, my Huckleberry, will you marry me?”
And for the 6th time after first meeting her, he was speechless. He could only say one word.
“Yes.”

‘Help me find my shirt’ ‘You know, as much as I want to…I don’t want to.’ -@happylilprompts
Part 2 to my mini-fic series. It’s been busy with school, but more should be up soon! Hope you all enjoy!
It was the night of the Gala that Lucas had been planning for months. He had been a vet for two years, and decided that he wanted to raise money for abused animals. Maya was so unbelievably proud of him, but she was so tired of him being stressed out over it .
“Babe, everything is going to be perfect.” She said, getting out of bed. As his wife, she felt like it was her duty to make him look great as a vet and as her husband.
“I know, but I just can’t help seem like I’m missing something.”
“What else could be missing? You have the music, the venue, the food, exactly what you need to host a Gala.”
“I don’t know what I would do without you.” She chuckled at the statement, usually it was the other way around.
“You know what you need? Some huckleberry pancakes.” It had become term of endearment between the two; he was her huckleberry, and she was his pancakes. She had found this great diner downtown, one with the greatest huckleberry pancakes that the two had ever known. He had even proposed to her there, with the ring in the pancakes.
“I can’t tell if you mean actual pancakes or something else…” he replied with a wink.
Only he could make her blush like a maniac, and giggle like a little girl.
“You tell me… but I don’t know if I’ll be able to fit in my dress if I eat those pancakes.”
“I still haven’t seen this dress yet.”
“You know that it’s a surprise. I haven’t seen you in your suit yet either.”
“My suit.”
“Your suit.”
“I don’t have my suit.” He was panic stricken, that’s exactly what he had forgotten. His normally tan skin was completely white and bleak.
“Honey, your suit is in your closet.”
“The suit jacket and pants are. But I have no idea where my shirt is. That’s what I forgot.”
“I’m sure you have a shirt around here somewhere.”
“Help me find my shirt.”
“You know, as much as I want to…I don’t want to” She was quite enjoying her view at the moment, his toned abs and back were right there. Who cared if he had a shirt on under that suit?
They both searched around for a while, when Maya suddenly gasped.
“Is everything alright? Did you find my suit?” She looked up to meet his eyes. “I found my diamond earring!” He rolled his eyes and went back to the closet that he was searching in. “And your shirt,” she hinted afterwards.
“You’re a lifesaver.” She winked at him.
“What’s my reward?”
“Later you’ll get to see me take off the shirt. How about that?”
“Sounds like a fair deal to me.”

'You’ve been wearing gym clothes all day but haven’t moved at all what do you mean its a 'mindset’ no you need to actually move’ @happylilprompts
First one of my mini-fics for today! Hope you enjoy!
As a college student, Maya wasn’t really one to get up and do much during the day. Honestly, if she had her way, she wouldn’t even go to class. Who cares about the hundred different ways to write about Moby Dick, anyway?
Her roommate had a different idea about what the optimal day should be. Every day, Lucas would wake up at 8, brush his teeth, get dressed, workout, change, go to class, workout, then come home and watch some Netflix. It worked for him. He felt productive and isn’t that what matters?
On Tuesdays, Maya didn’t have any classes, so she usually did a little homework, and slept all day. Lucas had morning classes, then a training session with his personal trainer. She happened to wake up early on Tuesday, and to her, early means 11 am.
Lucas stopped by the apartment around noon to grab some food before he went to workout, when he saw Maya on the couch.
“Babe, you wanna come work out with me?”
“By workout, you mean stay on the couch all day, occasionally doing crunches to go get more chips, then sure.”
“Not really, but if you have the sudden urge to come lift some weights or walk on the treadmill, you know where I’ll be.”
Now she wasn’t really one to ever consider going to a gym. She wasn’t a gym person. Big, strong people all talking to each other about how big and strong they are isn’t really her cup of tea. But she also knew that going to the gym meant seeing Lucas sweaty and shirtless, and boy that made it much more tempting.
At the thought of his abs, she got off the couch and got dressed to go work out. She went to the couch to grab her phone and some chips for the ride there, when she decided that she would snapchat him a picture of her in her leggings and sports bra for some ‘motivation’. It took a couple tries to get the right angle, but soon she was satisfied and sent it to him.
She had 10 minutes left in her episode, and she had paused it on a huge cliffhanger, so she decided that 10 minutes wouldn’t be too long, and she would just go to the gym after. Approximately 9 minutes later, she was snoring on the couch. She was woken up a few hours later by the closing of a door, in which she jumped up and yelled
“Who’s there?!”
“Your boyfriend. Nice to see that you got dressed.”
“Oh shit what time is it?”
“Maya, it’s 4 o’clock. You’ve been napping for over 3 hours.”
“You should be proud of me.” She smirked and walked over to the fridge to get a drink of water.
“You’ve been wearing gym clothes all day but haven’t moved at all.”
“It’s the mindset that counts.”
“What do you mean it's a 'mindset’? You need to actually move in order to workout. And however much I enjoyed that snapchat, I would have loved to see that ass in those leggings in action.”
“Maybe another day.”
“Or maybe they would just look better on the floor…”

I feel like Disney needs to make a statement. They can’t just cancel their top rated show and sweep it under the rug like nothing happened. We deserve an explanation.
