Canvas
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I decided to recreate one of my sketchbook doodles on a canvas because I liked the visual effect it had. Love heart shapes and the colour pink, go hand in hand and so I found it really aesthetic not only to create but the finished piece on a visual level too. I want to continue working on canvases, maybe different shapes or even MDF wood and create similar work to this but on a larger scale - layering different doodles up or shapes which are considered to be calming, usually curvaceous shapes. Having said this, I am missing textiles, so I may loop back and try to involve weaving in another method.
Weaving whilst being surrounded by BMP?
Weave around a BMP canvas?
Stitch into canvas again but with a more refined technique?
Create weavings in a contrasting colour to the BMP canvas, e.g. navy blue - argued to be most calming colour - then fix weave onto canvas?
Layer up doodles on BMP.

Sketchbook Pages

These are some images of my sketchbook pages. I painted the pages using my Baker-Miller Pink paint and doodled on top of the page using my Posca pens.

My studio space, unsurprisingly causes me mixed emotions - more often than not recently, stress! I sketched it on top of BMP painted paper.

Moving on from the sketches, I went back to procreate and began drawing the walls in the Baker-Miller Pink shade. This was a really fun way of making a visual, a better way than the fine-liner sketches because you can see how it would look closer to real life. I think I will go back to these edits and edit the ceiling and the door to be BMP, I'm excited to see how it would look. The process itself is quite time consuming because I had to draw a border around the walls not including certain areas that I didn't want to be pink, I then filled them in. The second edit to me, is more successful because I added in the shadows of the bricks in the walls so it looks more dimensional compared to the first image it looks quite flat.

Quick sketches.
I enjoyed making the canvas but since thinking about my study, I wanted to create some sort of visual of what my staff room could look like if it were all painted in Baker-Miller Pink. I did a quick sketch from the photograph - it took about 10 minutes to sketch out but I am enjoying the messiness of the sketch.

Small Study: Work
Tumblr media
I have been thinking a lot about how I can conduct my own study and gain my own results in regards to the Baker-Miller Pink theory. I began thinking about different places where cause different emotions or feelings in myself and whether I could experiment with the BMP in those settings.
One place that definitely evokes many different emotions is my workplace. I work in hospitality and so it can be fun yet extremely stressful at times, especially when it is busy. I decided to make a draft email to my Line Manager, as well as my Operational Manager too and ask whether or not it is something that would be possible. I have ideas to paint 3 canvases that are all the same size and in the colours navy blue, teal and Baker-Miller Pink. I will place them in the staff room, because that is a room in which most staff members come and go at different points of the day. My study will be completely anonymous, so no personal details will be required. I plan on creating a survey - probably a multiple choice of some sort. I have to think practically as people are going there to work and not to solely participate in my study so I have to be mindful that I do not interfere with any part of the normal working day. These are things I am thinking about whilst considering all of the logistics of my potential study.

Taking inspiration from Yayoi Kusama, I have continued to create some polka dot canvases but using both navy blue AND teal. I wanted to incorporate both colours because I wanted to link back to the 'World's Favourite Colour Project' where it said the three most calming colours are navy blue, teal and pink.
