I do think Shinji being a misogynist is an interesting analysis of his character and there’s certainly evidence to back it up such as the hospital scene, Hell’s Kitchen scene or attempt at kissing Asuka in episode 9. What I dislike is that it’s always used by fans who have a bleak view of EVA where there is no hope for the characters getting better and to prop up Kaworu as the only valid partner for Shinji. Give me an Asushin or Reishin story where he unlearns his misogyny and stops having unrealistic expectations of the women in his life. I used to dislike the misogynist Shinji interpretation but have become more open to it as I’ve become more radicalized politically. I just wish it was used in a more creative fashion.
