Love NQK's interactions with the Chapter Black allies, especially Gamemaster now that he's on their side. Will NQK and if so how will they interact with Seaman? Kuwabara's spirit sword early upgrade when NQK dropped sick's got me wondering for your next plans.

Would they try to stop it since it's not as needed? Would they feel mad about the boy hurting Kuwa. What would she do or say to him

So the good news is that all of these questions will be answered by LC itself!

The bad news is that that makes this ask tough to answer without spoiling the main story. 😅

To avoid spoilers, what I'll say is that NQK will definitely be wondering the same things you are, and they'll be doing their best to prepare (perhaps successfully, perhaps not) for any eventualities that may or may not arise. But canon has changed so much that it's basically impossible for NQK to predict what will happen at this point, and they'll no doubt be on their toes as the story progresses.

I'll further say that one of the things I have planned for Seaman I've had in mind for years (since I first started writing the story, in fact) and it's one of the things I'm most looking forward to writing in the future.

As for surprise parties...

Yusuke: He'd pretend he's unimpressed when he realizes what's going on, but secretly he'd be over the moon. Atsuko never celebrated his birthday, after all. He'd turn into a bit of a tsundere brat about his party, pretending to criticize the decor while simultaneously defending it (he is the only one allowed to insult his party!). It's giving "it's MY party and I'll cry if I want to" vibes.

Kuwabara: His friends have thrown him a small surprise bash before, and he got weepy when it happened. Overflowing with gratitude, this one; lots of loud, chortling laughter and flushed cheeks. Very much an "I love you, man 🥹" reaction while he blots tears on his enormous bicep.

Kurama: Mister Loner hasn't had many parties thrown for him as a human, and I'm sure he'd be very... touched? Touched to a degree, but also amused in a slightly patronizing, "humans are so sentimental" kind of way. He'd give an eloquent but simple thanks to the party-thrower (and probably make a note to repay them in some subtle way in future) and gently smile through the whole thing. He'd be a bit detached from the experience, though he'd appreciate the novelty.

Hiei: He has no idea when his birthday is on the human calendar, and so this party is probably just random in his eyes. And he'd probably run away at the first sign of a balloon, to be honest. I don't think he'd be secretly happy and soft inside. It's a weird human custom and he's a demon with no need for soft human practices, so for him it's mostly inconvenient and inexplicable. He'd enjoy the food, though, and any (worthy) gifts people cared to bring. No thanks will be given, so the party-thrower had best make peace with that.

So I have this little nibble of a headcanon about LC so I thought I'd share it. It's very small and it doesn't really impact anything but I thing it would be interesting.I dont think the specific date on NQK car crash was said (and if it was... eh) so what if her death day corresponds with Keikos Birthday?? It would add a bit of conflict about celebrating it and an extra layer of angst (yum) on top of her already mixed feelings about the day.

That's a good question! I based the car crash off a real moment in my life (driving home from a friend's wedding), and I believe that was sometime in November. Technically that's not Keiko's birthday... but for the sake of the story, we can pretend that wedding took place at another time of year. Totally agree that the coincidence would add a layer of birthday angst, and I like to think the dates aligned, too.

What's funny is that I've written one-shots that deal with how NQK views the date of her OLD birthday, but I haven't written any for how she views the OG!Keiko's... maybe I need to write another one=shot!

But until I can work out the details of that story, here are the other birthday one-shots for those who want to scratch the birthday angst itch. Here they are in order:

This is a fun one... and it turned into the outline of a oneshot. Whoops!

The Not Quites have such a distinct dynamic, I can't help but think about how the selection of costumes would play out between them. NQKagome would absolutely be the ringleader pushing for them to celebrate the holiday in full costume, and she'd want the trio to dress as something coordinated. Y'know, for the fun of it!

The ever-unflappable Minato would be stoically tolerant of the idea, as you might imagine, but he'd offer very little actual help and mostly just go along with what the others want... sort of.

Gripped by the exhilarating potential of her idea, Kagome would propose a series of progressively more elaborate costumes, which Minato would shoot down with precise, pinpoint reminders of how completely impossible they would be to pull off, either due to the elaborate construction or both his and Keiko's unwillingness to dress as certain characters (Keiko would refuse to dress as a female character, I think). Which would leave NQKeiko to jump in and offer solutions and compromises, basically playing mediator between the dreamer (Kagome) and the realist (Minato).

Eventually, after a long battle of wills, they'd settle on an idea for a costume trio that Minato and Keiko don't find completely unpleasant. Keiko would inevitably wind up being the one to put in the most work on the outfits, not only because Kagome keeps stabbing herself with sewing needles and falling asleep while crafting accessories, but also because Keiko's perfectionist streak would compel her to take over most of the labor. Buuuut in very "me" fashion, she'd wind up getting overwhelmed and feel like she'd been unfairly turned into the workhorse (even though it's partially her fault), and a fight would break out, putting the Halloween plans in jeopardy.

But not all hope is lost! After listening patiently to an explanation of what happened, Minato would rescue everyone, of course, by reminding them that his moon technology can manufacture disguises via the Disguise Pen, and he'd be able to magic them up some perfect costumes on the spot. He'd be pleased with himself for fixing everything so quickly, of course, and expect the rest of the Halloween plan to go on without a hitch.

He wouldn't count on the other Not Quites being pissed he didn't mention this solution sooner, however, especially considering how keen he was to shoot down Kagome earlier, more complicated ideas... he he he.

ANYWAY. That's how I see this playing out, and in the end, I think they'd be dressed one of two things: A trio of Ghostbusters, or Star Wars characters (a Jedi (Minato), a Rebel pilot (Keiko), and Princess Leia in her classic white outfit and space buns (Kagome)).

Just a quick life update.

End-of-May through end-of-August has become the worst time of the year for me in terms of work/life balance. The month of June alone used to "the hard one," but things have changed in my industry, and it's turned what used to be "a tough month or two" into an entire impossible season.

Recap: I work in the anime industry. A big part of my role is being a customer-facing "face of the brand." I go to conventions, appear on social media, host panels, etc. These in-person events are a huge and crucial part of my role, and each convention takes months of prep-time and stress.

Used to be, there was one convention early in the year (March), one in July, and another in October. There was a consistent eb and flow, up and down, of the rhythm of preparation for each convention, with space in between for recovery and rest. Lovely.

.... well too bad. NOT ANYMORE!

The March convention moved to May, and the October convention moved to August. So now all of the prep happens at the same time and I am burnt out beyond belief from April to the beginning of September.

Just giving some context for why I've been gone. I'm deep in survival mode just trying to make it through the crunch period. Thanks for your patience as I deal with all of this. Fall will be better, and I'll see you soon!

Next LC Chapter Postponed - I'M SICK 😭

As stated in the end notes of LC's latest chapter (127), I wanted to update this weekend, AKA by the end of the month of May.

Unfortunately, work took me out of town for almost a week, and (not unpredictably) I have returned home with some kind of Convention Ick™. It sucks, I can't think straight, and I just wanna sleep.

I masked the entire weekend, as I always do, but with so few others masking in conjunction, my mask only does so much.

I'm going to take a bit to recover and get back on the update train as soon as I can, but rest is in order. I'll see you again soon with 128. Thanks everybody!

Time to drink soup and stare at the back of my eyelids....

The minute I saw this, my mind immediately went to a good cup of foe. It fits the vibe I have in my mind of what the fox’s garden gives off! (At least what I pictured while reading)

OH MY GOD YES!

This is definitely the vibe of the Fox's Garden, for sure. The plants, warm wood tones, and the natural light? Oh yeah, that's a dead ringer for the shop. And it stretches back a little further and gets a little cozier/dimmer amid some bookcases in a few spots, like the deeper interior of a forest.
