It confuses me as well when he's portrayed as the person he so desperately is trying not to be. Like he's so horrified about being an alternate (and we can theorise that he's afraid of acting exactly like them as well) he drinks bleach to kill himself like you said!

It is important to remember that Adam grew up thinking he was human. He spent his whole life believing he was just like everyone else and yeah maybe he felt like compared to other people he was Wrong or Weird and that's what lead to his emotional distancing from others, but he still thought he was human, just weird. He unknowingly probably spent his whole life perfecting the art of disguise, unconsciously learning how to act like a human and blend in perfectly by observing the people around him since he was first replaced, to the point no one could tell there was something off about him, not even himself. He was so good at being a doppleganger and his emotions were so real that he even fooled himself into believing he was human, and that's absolutely terrifying, especially to himself. So it doesn't really make sense to me to portray him as emotional less when he's literally spent his whole life learning how to feel emotions the exact way a human does!

Also I feel it's important to point out that we have been told time and time again that the Adam that we're seeing in VOL 2 onwards isn't how he usually is. According to Evelin and Sarah Adam is acting REALLY WEIRD lately, and I'm pretty sure Evelin mentioned that Adam was actually a pretty nice guy when she met him. We don't know for sure why exactly his personality suddenly did a full 180 but we can guess it has something to do with him being an alternate and maybe with BPS and all those missions he went on for it, dealing with alternates all the time, but we do know that it isn't normal. So we don't even know how he acts usually, we don't even know if the apathy he expresses is normal, we're seeing "Adam Murray except wtf why is he acting so strangely??", and that's even before we find out he's an alternate.

i always get so surprised when i see interpretations of adam murray that are entirely cold and heartless and devoid of all emotion as if adam isn't the living terrifying proof that alternates can learn patterns of human emotions?

like. adam's character as a concept is a testament to just how horrifying a doppelganger can be. adam murray embodies the emotions of a human,, 2 me. he's born believing he's a miraculous survivor in a freak accident and he's thrown into tragedy from like. the VERY beginning. and he shows himself as apathetic and disconnected from some human emotions (i.e throwing "what's that even supposed to mean?" at jonah's breakdown and dismissing sarah's concerns like she's insane) but he's never been heartless. his guilt over jonah's death following him and just how emotional he gets when jonah brings up the hopelessness of the search 4 his mother PROVES that he feels emotions. the way he responds to being an alternate--with disgust and contempt to the point of suicide--proves he wants to be human. regardless of this inherent disconnect with the empathy that the rest of bps feels i really think that this emotional distance from everyone comes with the understanding that he's Wrong, even before he knows he's an alternate. that's always what made the reveal he was an alternate so devastating--because it provides a reason to his issues he can't run away from. it feels weird to portray him as this cold conscious monster that Wants to hurt when in reality even if he does share the same internal instincts as most alternates, he clearly rejects them and holds them with enough guilt to try and kill himself over it. to avenge the treatment for jonah? to prevent himself from hurting anyone else? ANY reason is HEARTTTTBREAAAKINNNGG.

im rereading catching fire before reading sunrise on the reaping and there’s a little detail i didnt remember and it is that haymitch was sending the other victors messages through bread in the arena, so finnick was very fixated on any bread that arrived. but katniss of course doesnt know this so she’s just kind of annoyed by it, like finnick is counting the little rolls to figure out the message and katniss just goes “finnick and his fucking bread again🙄🙄”

I genuinely love Evelin so much, she's such an amazing character and as soon as I heard these lyrics ("the fruits" by Paris Paloma of anyone's wondering) I immediately thought of her and then I found a picture of The Montverde Angel on Pinterest and yeah here we are 😭😭

Dude your work is amazing! You draw people so well and accurate and give them this air that actually makes them feel alive to me, that's incredibly hard to do and I absolutely applaud you for it.

On a different note, I am always glad to talk to someone who'll not only listen to my weird TMC thoughts produced by a love for history and angst and by me overthinking for God knows how long, but actually have the same weird overthinking thoughts and is just as rabid about the characters and series as I am! Not to mention you just seem like a nice person and you're nice to talk to!

Like I'm actually so glad you did create this blog cause we not only gained another very talented artist and someone who is just as crazy about the series us a lot of us but we gained a nice person who is great to talk to.

[tmc unrelated] not sure if anyone will care, i just wanted to thank all who enjoy my work. i created this blog out of pure desperation for community on my biggest interest ever, since i struggled with mental health and isolation so bad for the past years of my life, especially last year, and tmc always helped me cope with it. could not put in words how happy i am that people care as much as i do for this series, and that's why i'm always so thankful and glad to receive any drawing requests, messages, comments and so on. this is my absolute comfort space. thank you <33333

No because this was exactly what I was thinking about! Like some of our characters saw the evolution of the mobile phone in real time! And not to mention all the video quality and graphics quality improvements that happened over the years! Also I was just thinking about how our fave characters would've seen 9/11 on TV like what 😭😭

Characters like Thatcher, Ruth, Dave, Lynn, Jude, Mark and Cesar would've been kids-teenagers when the AIDS crisis was happening. If they were in Australia, 2009 is when the Black Saturday fires started and ended. Might be some really horrible examples but I think about how much they would've seen and how it could shape their lives and view points a lot. Like these guys saw beauty standards and social standards change like wildfire 😭😭

I'M SO GLAD I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE WHO FELT LIKE THAT. It's crazy as well just how recent it is in the grand scheme of human history. 2009 was only 16 years ago. It gives me this sort of dread because timeline wise it wasn't that long ago. Ugh I love TMC sm.
