Top 10 Birds Most Likely To Kill You
10.Red-tailed Hawk

The Red-tailed Hawk is one of North America’s larger hawks, and it’s one of the most familiar. It is the most regularly sighted Buteo, or open country hawk, and can be found in farmland, highway margins, parks, native prairie, and at the edges of lightly wooded habitats.
Red-tailed Hawks weigh between 3 and 4.4 pounds, and have a wingspan of nearly 5 feet. The nest is placed in a tree near open areas, and it’s fiercely defended. When the nest is built in an area frequented by humans, the hawk may perceive humans as a threat and attempt to drive them from its territory.
Attacks usually involve fast swoops and raking with massive talons. In Connecticut, during the 2010 hawk nesting season, multiple people were attacked by a territorial individual. Several victims were struck on the head and injured, and school athletics classes had to be moved indoors.
9.Snowy Owl

The Snowy Owl – the large white bird immortalized by the Harry Potter series – is the most northerly bird of prey on the planet. Snowy Owls breed on the tundra around the Arctic Circle, and can tolerate temperatures as low as -50. The birds stand over 18 inches tall, with a wingspan of over 4 feet. Their weight can exceed 6 pounds. When walking on the arctic tundra, one must keep a cautious eye out for apparent patches of unmelted snow on the expanse of ground-cover vegetation.
The nest site of the “Ookpik” may be closely approached without any sign of alarm. But as soon as a threat is perceived, the patch of “snow” may burst into life as the Snowy Owl rushes to confront the trespasser. If the threat is a human, the owl may target the face and head with its razor sharped talons. Serious injuries – especially to the eyes – are a definite possibility. Bending over and protecting the face is a must – along with a hasty retreat.
8.Lammergier

Lammergier is German for “lamb vulture”. It was believed that the most predatory vulture species fed on lambs – but lambs are unlikely to be targeted unless they are sick or dying.
It is this bird’s penchant for hard food items that require aerial drpping to access that make it potentially dangerous. Lammergiers have adapted to favor the soft marrow inside bones, which is what remains when other vultures have stripped the carcass. To access the marrow, the bird carries the bones into the air and drops them to shatter on the rocks below.
This poses a definite threat to any humans in the vicinity. Lammergiers consider tortoises viable bone substitutes, and treat them in the same way. The Greek playwright Aeschylus is said to have been struck and killed when a tortoise fell from the sky – presumably dropped by a Lammergier.
7.Barred Owl

The Barred Owl is a fluffy, medium-sized bird of prey native to swamp forests in the Southern United States. Wingspans reach up to four feet, and weight ranges from 2.5 to over 3 pounds. Barred Owls target small animal prey, and have recently expanded their range northward and westward as far as British Columbia.
Hikers in the Pacific Northwest pay a price for walking in forests colonized by Barred Owls. Victims do not hear the owl coming, as specialized feathers muffle the owl’s swooping flight. The birds target the head with their razor sharp talons – clawing, pecking and squeezing. Bloody head injuries can result. Attacks have plagued parks in BC since 2001, and four Texas residents were bloodied in a series of owl strikes in 2007. Hardhats are a useful means of defense.
6.Great Northern Loon

The five types of Gaviiformes – commonly known as loons – are among Earth’s most primitive avian species, dating back to the earliest stages of bird evolution. Loons nest near lakes in the temperate forest, boreal forest and arctic tundra landscapes in Northern Eurasia and North America. In the winter, loons fly south a short way to spend the winter on sheltered bays across the Northern Hemisphere. These 8-12 pound birds possess razor sharp, pointed bills which they use to spear their fish prey.
Lake pollution has caused declines in loon populations, prompting avian scientists to place bands on the bird’s legs to track their movements. In one unfortunate case, an ornithologist was mistaken for a predator by the loon he was banding. The defensive bird plunged its sharpened bill, dagger fashion, through the ribcage and into the heart of the researcher, killing him instantly.
5.Mute Swan

The Mute Swan is one of the world’s largest waterfowl – not to mention one of the most aggressive and territorial. The birds are native to Eurasia, but have been introduced to many other parts of the world – most famously North America. Mute Swans, unlike other swan species, nest in park ponds, community lakes and other sites frequented by humans, and defend their nest fiercely against potential predators.
If a human approaches the lakeshore nest, the 26 pound bird will hiss and charge. The swan strikes its opponent with muscular wings that can span over 7 feet, and pecks and shoves until the threat is mitigated. Serious injuries – including broken bones, bruises and eye injuries – can occur. In one tragic case, a property caretaker drowned after being pushed out of a kayak by Mute Swans his own company had established on a lakeside community.
4.European Herring Gull

Colonially nesting gulls – especially larger species such as the European Herring Gull – can be highly aggressive towards perceived intruders. Rising garbage levels and reliable food availability in urban areas have encouraged the gulls to nest in these new habitats, increasing conflict with humans. The birds aggressively steal food from humans, causing potential injuries from the massive, razor-like bills. One boy suffered cuts to the face after a gull stole his sausage.
The birds can weigh more than 3 pounds, with wingspans around 6 feet. Territorial instincts are retained during nesting season. In 2001, a women in the UK suffered deep head wounds from an attack, and a dog was killed. In 2002, an elderly man died of a heart attack after being mobbed by gulls.
3.Australian Magpie

The Australian Magpie is a southern relative of crows and ravens, and it is closely linked to the butcherbird family. The feeding habits of this species are relatively harmless, as it focuses largely on ground-dwelling invertebrates. But the territorial behavior of this giant songbird – with a wingspan of nearly 3 feet – ranks it among the most dangerous avian species on the planet.
During their six week nesting season, the birds fearlessly swoop down in pairs to attack intruders wherever they are most vulnerable. For humans, this means that the head and face areas are targeted; eye injuries, serious flesh wounds and head injuries have all been reported. Fatal accidents have resulted when intruders such as cyclists or pedestrians have panicked after being battered on the head by the talons and the massive, pointed bill.
2.African Ostrich

The African Ostrich is the largest bird on earth, and is the sole remaining ostrich species following the tragic extinction of the Arabian Ostrich. Ostriches average 240 pounds, and may reach nearly 7 feet in height.
The bird’s long eyelashes and broad bills may appear comical – but a territorial ostrich is nothing to laugh about. Startled ostriches usually run – reaching speeds of 43 miles per hour – or flatten themselves close to the ground; but when their territory or young are threatened, they may attack humans.
Ostriches have massive leg bones and hoof-like, pointed nails extending several inches. A human target may be disemboweled or battered to death in seconds. In one region of South Africa, up to three attacks occur per year. A number of human deaths have resulted over the years from attacks following intrusions into ostrich breeding grounds.
1.Southern Cassowarry

The Southern Cassowarry is a rainforest dwelling member of the ratite family, native to Northwestern Australia and New Guinea. Cassowaries have black plumage and blue skin patches, with a bony head plate that gives it a saurian appearance. These birds weigh over 130 pounds, stand nearly 6 feet tall, and are fiercely territorial.
Armed with razor sharp spurs and one of the strongest kick forces of any animal, Cassowaries will not hesitate to challenge a perceived threat. Human intruders into Cassowary habitat have been ripped open, disemboweled or killed instantly by the force and slicing effect of a Cassowary attack.
Normally, Cassowaries peacefully gather plant material and arthropods from the forest floor – but as with all of the above birds, don’t let yourself be deceived.

This Case Could Have The ICC Rule On Gender Violence For The First Time

The International Criminal Court is charging a militant linked to al-Qaeda in the Maghreb (AQIM) with gender-based persecution, which if upheld will be the first time that the court considers persecution on the basis of gender as a crime.
Al Hassan Ag Abdoul Aziz Ag Mohamed Ag Mahmoud is being held at the Hague on charges of crimes against humanity on the basis of gender and religion, and war crimes including rape, sexual slavery, and torture during the takeover of Timbuktu by Islamic militants in 2012.
The ICC alleges that Al Hassan was the de facto chief of the Islamic police after the takeover of one of the world’s oldest cities and that he participated in the policy of forced marriages, which led to the repeated rape and sexual enslavement of women and girls in Timbuktu and the surrounding region.
ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda said in a statement that the charges “can address the untold suffering inflicted upon the Malian population and what they hold dear as a people,” and emphasized that her office is committed to bringing charges “built on a strong evidentiary foundation.”
Feminist legal activists and others vigorously advocated for the inclusion of gender-based crimes in the statute that governs the ICC, in part as a response to mass rapes in Rwanda and Bosnia. But since the court was first established in 2002, it has yet to try a case where gender-based persecution was successfully prosecuted. Only one previous case has sought to bring charges of gender-based persecution, but the charges were dropped before reaching trial.
Peter Dejong / AFP / Getty Images
As a potential first of its kind, Al Hassan’s case could have a profound impact on international law. It would affirm the legal concept of gender-based persecution and give the court the opportunity to clarify what it even means by terms like “gender,” which remain the subject of substantial debate. (It’s unclear, for example, whether the law draws a distinction between biological sex and gender.) In Al Hassan’s case, legal scholar Rosemary Grey argues in a blog post that the court should take a broad view and examine “what it meant to be female in social terms, for women living under the rule of Ansar Dine and AQIM.”
Al Hassan, 40, was born outside of Timbuktu and is a member of the Tuareg ethnic group. His arrest warrant states that he joined the Islamist militant group Ansar Dine in spring 2012. Ansar Dine was a local affiliate of al-Qaeda that worked closely with AQIM and joined Tuareg rebels to launch an attack on Timbuktu in April 2012. The coalition had total control of Timbuktu, setting up Islamic courts and other functions, until January 2013, when French troops intervened and the militants fled.
“Stonings, amputations, and floggings have become the order of the day in an apparent attempt to force the local population to accept their worldview,” Corinne Dufka, a senior researcher on Africa at Human Rights Watch, said in 2012, describing the situation at the time. “In imposing their brand of Sharia law, they have also meted out a tragically cruel parody of justice and recruited and armed children as young as 12.”
In addition to gender-based crimes, Al Hassan is also facing a number of other charges including religious persecution, torture, and outrages upon personal dignity. For the religious-based charges, the court has alleged that he participated in the destruction of the mausoleums of Muslim saints.
Andrew Lebovich, an expert on Islamic movements in the Sahel, told BuzzFeed News that Al Hassan was a member of the city’s Islamic police but “by most local accounts does not appear to have been as senior as he has been depicted.” Lebovich noted that “more senior members of Ansar Dine are free and some are part of groups associated with Mali’s peace process.”
Al Hassan was transferred to the ICC by Malian authorities on March 31 and had his first court appearance on April 4 when Judge Marc Perrin de Brichambaut read the charges to him. The confirmation process for those charges is set to begin in September and will determine whether there is sufficient evidence to proceed with a trial.

These Overly Curious Kitties Will Have You Shaking Your Head
They say that curiosity killed the cat. Fortunately for these cats, they let their curiosity get the best of them but lived to tell the tale. What is it about cats that they continually find themselves in some really dumb situations? Just wait until you see the cat who discovered what a bee was!

Britain Has Set Out Its Most Detailed Explanation Yet For Why It Believes Russia Is Responsible For The Salisbury Poisoning

The British government has set out its most detailed explanation yet of why it believes Russia is responsible for the attempted assassinations of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia.
Sir Mark Sedwill, the prime minister's national security adviser, said Russia had been testing nerve agents on door handles – which is how police suspect the pair were poisoned – and email accounts belonging to Yulia Skripal had been targeted by Russian intelligence as far back as 2013.
In a letter to NATO secretary general Jens Stoltenberg on Friday, Sedwill said: “We therefore continue to judge that only Russia has the technical means, operational experience and motive for the attack on the Skripals and that it is highly likely that the Russian state was responsible. There is no plausible alternative explanation.”
It comes a day after the global chemical weapons watchdog, the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), confirmed the UK's findings that the Skripals were poisoned by the Novichok nerve agent in Salisbury on 4 March.
Sergei Skripal remains in hospital in serious condition, while Yulia Skripal has been released. A police officer, detective sergeant Nick Bailey, was inadvertently poisoned after tending to the pair, but was released from hospital on 22 March.
In the letter, Sedwill said Novichok was found in environmental samples taken at the scene and in biomedical samples from both Skripals and DS Bailey, and that the “highest concentrations were found on the handle of Mr Skripal’s front door”.
He said: “A combination of credible open-source reporting and intelligence shows that in the 1980s the Soviet Union developed a new class of ‘fourth generation’ nerve agents, known as Novichoks.
“The key institute responsible for this work was a branch of the State Institute for Organic Chemistry and Technology at Shikhany near Volgograd. The codeword for the offensive chemical weapons programme (of which Novichoks were one part) was FOLIANT.
“It is highly likely that Novichoks were developed to prevent detection by the West and to circumvent international chemical weapons controls. The Russian state has previously produced Novichoks and would still be capable of doing so.”
Getty / Facebook
Sedwill said Russia’s chemical weapons programme had continued after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and that by 1993, when Russia signed the Chemical Weapons Convention, it was “likely that some Novichoks had passed acceptance testing, allowing their use by the Russian military”.
“Russia further developed some Novichoks after ratifying the convention,” he said. “In the mid-2000s, President Putin was closely involved in the Russian chemical weapons programme.
“It is highly unlikely that any former Soviet republic (other than Russia) pursued an offensive chemical weapons programme after independence. It is unlikely that Novichoks could be made and deployed by non-state actors (eg a criminal or terrorist group), especially at the level of purity confirmed by OPCW.”
Turning to “operational experience”, Sedwill said Russian had a “proven record of conducting state-sponsored assassination”.
He pointed to the Owen report from the UK’s public inquiry into the death of Aleksandr Litvinenko which concluded in 2016 that he was “deliberately poisoned with Polonium 210, that there was a ‘strong probability’ that the FSB (Russia's security agency) directed the operation, and that President Putin ‘probably approved it’”.
He said Owen had said other cases between 2002 and 2006 suggested that the “Russian state may have been involved in the assassination of Mr Putin’s critics”. And Sedwill added that since 2006, there “have been numerous suspected Russian state-sponsored assassinations outside the former Soviet Union”.
Turning to how exactly nerve agents are used by Russia, Sedwill said: “During the 2000s, Russia commenced a programme to test means of delivering chemical warfare agents and to train personnel from special units in the use of these weapons.
“This programme subsequently included investigation of ways of delivering nerve agents, including by application to door handles. Within the last decade, Russia has produced and stockpiled small quantities of Novichoks under the same programme.”
Finally, on the motive, Sedwill said Sergei Skripal was a former Russian military intelligence (GRU) officer, convicted of espionage in 2004.
“It is highly likely that the Russian intelligence services view at least some of its defectors as legitimate targets for assassination,” he said.
“We have information indicating Russian intelligence service interest in the Skripals, dating back at least as far as 2013, when email accounts belonging to Yulia Skripal were targeted by GRU cyber specialists.”
Calling on NATO to take action, he concluded: “I know that NATO will remain seized of the need to confront the increasingly aggressive pattern of Russia behaviour of which the attack in Salisbury was an acute and recent example.”

India Is Heartbroken Over The Rape And Murder Of A Young Muslim Girl

NEW DELHI — The abduction, rape, and murder of an 8-year-old girl allegedly overseen by a retired government officer has outraged India and thrust the country’s pervasive rape culture into the limelight once again.
According to a police report seen by BuzzFeed News, the victim, Asifa Bano, was kidnapped in Northern India on Jan. 10, drugged, starved, locked up in a temple, and raped repeatedly by multiple men before she was killed a week later.
Protests are being organized across the country over Asifa’s murder, and a deluge of angry and heartbroken poems, illustrations, and messages for her have appeared on street corners and social media.
#JusticeForAsifa is the largest public outpouring of grief of this kind in India since a 23-year-old student was gang-raped on a bus in New Delhi in December 2012.
“Our daughters will definitely get justice.”
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is scrambling to match public anger over Asifa’s murder in Kathua, in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. On April 13, three months after she died, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said such incidents had no place in civilized society. “Our daughters will definitely get justice,” he said.
The Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi has also said that she plans to make the rape of children below 12 punishable with a death sentence.
But these measures now seem too little, too late.
Asifa belonged to the Bakarwal community, a nomadic pastoral tribe, who are primarily Sunni Muslims. Much of the anger over the story is based on the fact that the 8-year-old seems to have been the victim of a conspiracy centered around the greed for land, and a deep hatred of Muslims in Modi’s India.
Two days after Asifa’s death, a Hindu teenager confessed that he had abducted and attempted to rape her, murdering her only because he was afraid that her family would kill him for revenge. Further investigations by a special investigative unit (known as the Crime Branch) eventually uncovered what they say is the role played by at least three police officers in carrying out and covering up the crime. These officers, like the teenage boy, are also Hindu.
(None of those arrested in the case have been formally charged yet.)
Asifa’s story has thrown India’s communal politics into sharp relief: As the Crime Branch prepared to take their report to court, they were obstructed by lawyers chanting pro-Hindu slogans. Now, as the case is being prepared for trial, Deepika Singh Rajawat — the woman lawyer who will be representing Asifa’s case — has been threatened by the president of the bar association and warned not to appear in court.
The fact that Asifa and her family are Muslim, while her alleged murderers are right-wing Hindus, has also eclipsed any conversation on rape culture or the harassment of minority communities like the Bakarwals.
But ultimately this is the story of a terrible crime inflicted upon a young girl.
Supporters of a party that has been labelled as far-right and Hindu-nationalist protest against the Asifa investigation being handed to the Crime Branch, which some said was “going after innocent Hindus.”

The police report for which the investigative team interviewed and recorded the testimonies of 130 witnesses, and collected forensic and medical evidence, call records and cell phone locations, reveals a chilling picture of the organized fashion in which the accused allegedly hatched a plan, selected allies, assigned duties, paid off police officials, and executed the murder of an 8-year-old.
The report says the teenager who confessed to the crime on Jan. 19 — who cannot be named for legal reasons — was part of a wider conspiracy around Asifa’s abduction, rape, and murder.
The plan, police say, was originally hatched by the teenager’s 60-year-old uncle, Sanji Ram, at the beginning of the year, when the teenager first came to live with him.
Ram is described in the police charge sheet as a retired man with a record of harassing the Bakarwals; he would meddle in their land deals, and seize their cattle.
Ram had also found allies in a couple of local police officers — Head Constable Tilak Raj and Special Police Officer Deepak Khajuria. The police officers routinely picked fights with members of the tribe, and during the investigation they told officers that they believed the Bakarwals engaged in “cow slaughter” — a dog whistle for anti-Muslim sentiment in India — and, ironically, “peddling drugs to children.”
According to the teenager’s testimony, Ram started to poison his nephew with hate-filled conspiracies against the Bakarwals. One day, Ram is supposed to have told him that the best way to teach the Bakarwals a lesson would be to abduct Asifa (whom he had often seen in the forest, tending to her horses), drug her, and trap her in a local temple.
The teenager told police that he initially resisted his uncle’s plans, but he was convinced when Khajuria, one of the police officers, offered him some cigarettes, and told him that if he managed to kidnap Asifa, they would help him cheat and pass his school board exams. Convinced, the teenager enlisted another friend, named in the report as Parvesh Kumar, to help him execute the plan. The next day, the two friends allegedly purchased some over-the-counter drugs.
The report says that the teenager encountered Asifa on Jan. 10 as she looked for her horses. According to police, the teenager told Asifa he knew where the horses were, and took her to the temple where Kumar was waiting for them.
The police report says the two young men — apparently acting out of a desire to pass their school exams — drugged Asifa until she was unconscious, after which the teenager raped her. They tied her up and locked her in the temple alone.
The day after Asifa disappeared, her father, Muhammad Yusuf Pujwala, showed up outside the locked temple where his daughter was being held, still alive, and asked Ram if he knew Asifa’s whereabouts. On Jan. 12 he filed a complaint at the same police station where Khajuria was based, saying that he believed his daughter had been kidnapped.
Once Asifa’s father left the police station, the police report alleges that Khajuria visited the temple with over-the-counter psychiatric pills that Ram had advised him to buy a few days prior. Drugging Asifa so she would be unconscious once more, Khajuria also proceeded to rape the child, according to the report.
In the week that followed her disappearance, Asifa’s family, who knew the forests of Kathua better than most, repeatedly traced their paths around the forest, looking for any sign or trace of the child. Meanwhile, Khajuria also kept up the pretense of searching for the child in the village.
The report says that in the week she was held captive, Asifa was raped multiple times by the men. The teenager, who lit the lamps at the temple every evening, contacted Vishal Jangotra, Ram’s son, to come and join him in raping Asifa. Jangotra took a train from Uttar Pradesh, 17 hours away, to arrive at the temple in Kathua where Asifa was trapped. The police report says Khajuria then also showed up at Ram’s house under the pretext of looking for the missing girl, demanded money to pay off investigating officers, and asked Ram’s nephew to prepare Asifa for his arrival with a fresh round of drugs.
According to the charges levelled against them in the police report, a few days before Asifa’s body was found in the forest, Ram instructed the men that they needed to kill her. After raping her one last time, they strangled her and then hit her over the head with a large stone.
The teenager was arrested two days later, on Jan. 19. By then, news of Asifa’s death and the brutalized state that her body was found in had caused a political scandal: Leaders of the local opposition demanded that the police officers investigating the case be fired immediately. Asifa’s death was held up as evidence that minorities were no longer safe in Jammu. Hundreds of Bakarwals protested in different parts of the state. Imams at the mosques in Ramban, Khari, and Banihal warned the government that they would have a full-scale agitation on their hands if Asifa’s killers were not found.
To deal with all the attention on the case, the police report states that Khajuria told Ram he would attempt to pin Asifa’s murder on another tribal man, who was in police custody at the time for a separate crime.
But when he was interrogated by the police, Ram’s nephew said the crime was his alone. He described how he had abducted Asifa and held her captive in a cowshed, making no mention of the temple. He said that he made sure no harm came to her — he fed her, cleaned her up, tied her up again for a week — until he decided it was time to drop her home. The teenager admitted that he tried to rape Asifa when he was finally walking her back home through the forest. Scared by her threats that the Bakarwals would find and kill him, the teenager said he panicked and ended up killing her by dropping a rock on her head.
As a juvenile offender, the teenager would have received a lesser punishment for the crime. But investigations by the police revealed no traces of him or Asifa in the cowshed he had mentioned, or on the rock he claimed he had used to kill her. Despite this, late on Jan. 19, the police claimed they had solved the crime, and that a juvenile boy had confessed to Asifa’s murder.
Asifa’s death and the national conversation around it had turned distinctly communal by this point — a young Muslim girl had been brutally killed, and the government appeared to be looking for a way to close the investigation as quickly as possible, no matter how improbable it seemed that a lone teenage boy was responsible for the state that Asifa’s body was found in — limbs broken, bite marks on her face and shoulders.
In Jammu, the chief minister’s political opponents would not let the matter rest. As the protests across the state showed no signs of letting up, the case was finally transferred to the Crime Branch on Jan. 23, leading to the charge sheet we have today.
A Hindu boy had killed a Muslim girl, and now that the case had been transferred to a separate investigative unit, the Hindu right wing decided to play on Hindu–Muslim tensions to stage a protest of their own in Jammu, against the Muslim Bakarwals. One such right-wing group, the Hindu Ekta Manch, insisted that the case be investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation instead of the State Police’s Crime Branch, which, they said, appeared to be “going after innocent Hindus.”
On March 3, NDTV, an Indian news channel covering the protests, aired a clip of an elderly protester dressed in a black sweater, wearing rectangular spectacles and a smudge of vermillion on his forehead. It was Ram. By March 20, the Crime Branch’s investigation had named him as the chief conspirator in the abduction, rape, and murder of Asifa.

In Jammu and Kashmir, a single, troubled state in a region claimed by both India and Pakistan, the complex intersection of religion, geopolitics, and India’s history of human rights abuses in Kashmir have turned Asifa's death into a polarizing national issue.
In Kathua, the Bakarwals had found themselves under constant attack, not just from Ram, but also the state authorities and local right-wing groups. The state’s construction plans meant that the tribe was often forcibly relocated from their homes into narrow tracts of land where the Bakarwals’ cattle could not graze. After Asifa’s death, her family could not even find a piece of land to bury their daughter in Kathua. Now the Bakarwals are migrating once more.
This time, it’s not the weather that’s driving them further into the mountains, and chances are they will not return.

China’s Weibo Just Walked Back A Ban On LGBT Content After Users Protested
Afp / AFP / Getty Images
China's Weibo, the popular Twitter-like microblog site, has said it will not suppress LGBT content as planned, following a public outcry.
Thousands of Weibo users protested a three-month “clean-up campaign” that would have targeted LGBT content along with other subjects deemed obscene.
Over the weekend, people used hashtags like #IAmGay and #IHaveGayFriends, and many shared selfies and personal stories.
“My son and I love our country. No matter where we go, we always proudly tell people that we are from China,” wrote a Weibo user in Shanghai who said her son was gay in a widely shared post.
Weibo
“But today when I saw the first point in Weibo's announcement that they lumped in LGBTQ content with pornographic and violent content, I felt the violence of Weibo's discrimination against minority groups when it plays the role of a media outlet in a strong country like China.”
In the southwestern province of Sichuan, a radio host posted a viral video of LGBT rights activists offering free hugs on a busy street while wearing rainbow-printed eye masks.
Weibo
He said he hoped to share the video before it was too late.
In response to the online protests, Weibo announced on Monday that LGBT content would be exempt from censorship.
“The clean-up campaign will not target homosexual content, as it is intended to focus on cleaning up pornographic and violent content,” the site said in an official post on Monday.
It represents a rare case in which a Chinese social media company has agreed to scale back censorship of a topic in response to user protests.
The climbdown from Weibo comes amid a broad crackdown in China on online content. President Xi Jinping has tightened restrictions on online speech as well as the press, which is heavily censored.
An organization under the country's top media regulator listed content related to homosexuality along with incest, sexual assault, and pornography as targets for online censorship in a statement last June. But a Beijing court agreed this year to hear a case challenging the basis for the rules.
China decriminalized homosexuality in 1997, but the culture is still heavily conservative. LGBT activists in the country have still seen occasional success in campaigning for greater rights and acceptance.

So Uplifting: Meet Some Tough Kids Who Have Battled Cancer
Despite all the miraculous advances in health care in the United States, many families are still affected by childhood cancer. Every year around 15,700 children are diagnosed, meaning that approximately 43 children per day get the life-changing news. Cancer does not discriminate based on gender, class, or ethnicity, and it is the number one cause of death by disease for children. There has been a push to increase research funding to find a cure, as the number of diagnosed cases has not declined in over twenty years. Although childhood cancer is a terrifying reality, let’s read about some kids who have battled the illness with the strength and grace of adults twice their age.
Prepare to be amazed by these kids, who are truly heroic spirits and inspiring examples of strength in the face of adversity.
Jayden’s Journey
Photo Credit: Jayden/ Kids Beating Cancer
When Jayden was eight years old, his parents took him to the doctor due to some strange symptoms that weren’t clearing up. After a battery of tests, it was revealed that the young boy had acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). This is one of the most common childhood cancers, which causes bone marrow to produce too many white blood cells.
Jayden needed a bone marrow transplant in order to survive his illness. He found a match in his little sister Azara. Despite suffering from a difficult illness, Jayden is a totally normal kid who loves Spiderman, Sonic the Hedgehog, football and Legos. After receiving his transplant in July of 2016, Jayden was on the road to remission.
Read on to find out what special treat got our next warrior “super-duper excited.”

Matthew is a part of the organization called “Tackle Kids Cancer” which gets pro sports players involved in raising money for childhood cancer research. I don’t want to get the needles or the nighttime pills.” He also finds it difficult to stay overnight in the hospital away from his younger brother.

Matthew was treated to a meeting with Giant’s quarterback Eli Manning who is working with the organization. This was was an amazing surprise for Matthew because he counts himself as the Giants' biggest fan! For a moment, he got to take a break from cancer and bask in the company of one of his heroes. Matthew said, “I’m so excited. Hailey Tamagno was only two and a half years old when she was first diagnosed with cancer. She originally had pain in her leg and started to exhibit a limp. Hailey’s mom took her to the doctor to have blood work and they ended up getting the news no one wants. Missy said,“Her pediatrician called me late Wednesday night, like 8:30 p.m., which was unusual. He said the results were somewhat abnormal and said we should have more testing done the next day.”

Hailey was diagnosed with leukemia, but luckily she was diagnosed extremely early. Hailey’s form of leukemia is called acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), which is the most common form of cancer in children. Hailey responded well to treatment, and due to a combination of early detection and treatment, she is now cancer free. Four-year-old Hailey is now a happy and healthy preschool student.

Matthew The Ambassador

When Matthew was nine years old, he was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML). This kind of cancer is typically found in adults and rarely in children. Chronic myelogenous leukemia affects the blood-forming cells in the bone marrow. The cancer typically spreads from beyond the bone marrow and into the blood. From there it can also spread to other parts of the body and is considered hard to treat.

For Matthew, this meant that he needed a bone marrow transplant. When he was almost 10 years old he was finally matched with a donor named Angelika from Germany. Matty’s treatment was successful and he is now in remission. Throughout his cancer journey, he always managed to keep a smile on his face. However, this was only the beginning of tiny Alex’s struggle. One year later, Alex’s mother mom discovered that children with down syndrome are most susceptible to getting leukemia. At only 27 months he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the most common kind of childhood cancer with a high cure rate.

She also had to undergo surgery to have a tumor resection as well as two different stem cell transplants. Mandy also had to go through antibody therapy and radiation. After being declared cancer free for almost two years, she relapsed in 2015. Since then, the six-year-old has done 22 cycles of chemotherapy. Still in treatment, Mandy is a normal little girl who still loves dance, art, and playing with her dolls.

It is a cancer that starts in the lymphocytes, or white blood cells, which regulate the body’s immune system. This cancer has a relatively high survival rate, especially if treated early. After being diagnosed, Grayson began a rigorous form of treatment that included both chemotherapy and radiation. Grayson achieved remission for 11 months.

Sadly, as is common with cancer at times, Grayson relapsed in July of 2016. He again had to face chemo, a stem cell transplant, along with more radiation. It was soon discovered that she had a pediatric brain tumor. After monitoring the tumor for a time, Mikayla's doctors recommended proton therapy which is a form of radiation.

This type of radiation is supposed to be more precise without affecting surrounding areas of the body. This is said to be particularly important when it comes to kids whose tiny bodies are still growing. Luckily, Mikayla responded well to treatments with minimal side effects. Although they faced a lengthy battle, as Mikayla’s dad Demetrius said, “We’re a team. We’re in this together.”

Dalen continues his fight and he and his family members remain steadfast in their hope. Dalen, like many boys his age, is a big fan of superheroes. For his mom, Dalen is her own superhero. Gabriella then had to endure multiple surgeries, chemotherapy, and proton therapy (a more concentrated form of radiation treatments). While Gabriella did, unfortunately, lose sight in one of her eyes and also suffered from related balance and depth-perception issues, she never lost sight of the things she loved. Chickens come and go but shaming is forever. If you thought that shaming was exclusive to cats and dogs then you’re in for a real treat. These chickens know no bounds. Not even their owners can control them. So that means it’s time to put them to shame for attacking the baby or ruining the garden. You won’t believe what some of these chickens did.
This Chicken Thinks She’s Something She Isn’t
urbanfarmscapes / Instagram
This chicken must have lived a past life as a crow or something. What is she doing sleeping in the tree as if she could fly? One of these days, she could end up injured if she does decide to try and flap her wings.

Having a pet frog is already something out of the ordinary. Usually, you'll have a fish or something if you want an aqua based pet. These Parents Are Here To Show The Positive Sides Of Raising Kids With Autism
Children with autism spectrum disorders face many challenges navigating life as they grow up, but we shouldn’t forget that their parents face many difficulties as well. Parents of autistic children sometimes admit that the challenges of autism can create an overwhelming and often isolating experience, as other people fail to fully understand exactly what they’re going through. But many parents have found an outlet through social media, to seek and offer their support while advocating for autism awareness. You’re about to meet some amazing families and hear all about their journeys with autism.
This Mom And Son Gave A TEDx Talk About Their Journey
Photo: @benjitalk / Instagram
This is Debby and her son Benji, who was diagnosed with autism when he was three years old. Debby has shared her and Benji’s experience on their blog, Benji Talks. Benji did not speak at the time and the doctors told Debby that they worried he might not ever gain that ability.
But many years later, Benji is a teenager on the cusp of entering high school. He is very talented with the ability to play multiple instruments and has an uncanny memory for major roadways in the United States. In 2017, Benji even gave a TEDx talk and shared his experiences growing up with autism.

Benji is one of many autistic kids who overcome the challenges that come with ASD. 2017 was an especially big year because Benji had his Bar Mitzvah ceremony. While Debby offered a low-key celebration, Benji asked her, "I have climbed some seriously big mountains, don't you think I deserve a traditional Bar Mitzvah?" He then went on to impress a room of 250 people in leading the service entirely by himself.

Debby writes, "So maybe if you are told that your child will never be able to speak, learn or socialize, think of Benji and have hope." Benji has even taken over writing the blog himself.

"},"3":
http://www.giveitlove.com/these-parents-are-here-to-show-the-positive-sides-of-raising-kids-with-autism/3/

This Mom Has Learned A Lot From Her Son

Emmy is a mother of two, whose son Boston has autism. Despite the challenges of being a mother of two young children, let alone grappling with the challenges of autism, Emmy shares with her followers that she wouldn't trade her children for anything in the world.

One thing that's consistent among all parents of autistic children is the unconditional love and support that they feel towards their children. Parenting young children is difficult enough, but the added challenge of autism can make things that much harder. It's okay for these parents to admit that, especially when they have a strong community online to support each other.

"},"4":
http://www.giveitlove.com/these-parents-are-here-to-show-the-positive-sides-of-raising-kids-with-autism/4/

Photo: @iamemmykate / Instagram

Emmy shared this photo of her son Boston after a difficult day of trying to get to the hospital for his sister's doctor appointment. It proved especially overwhelming due to the number of people that were around, but thankfully an understanding passerby noticed he was having a difficult time and helped Emmy and her kids get where they needed to go.

On World Autism Day, Emmy wrote, "It’s about little lives, it’s about learning, teaching, understanding, it’s about embracing different but most of all it’s about acceptance, love and humanity... Thank you Boston, for teaching me what true love is, what true compassion is, what true understanding is."

"},"5":
http://www.giveitlove.com/these-parents-are-here-to-show-the-positive-sides-of-raising-kids-with-autism/5/

Kids With Autism Are Still Like Any Other Kids Their Age

Four-year-old Laurence was featured on Able Finder, which is a site that shares the stories of other differently abled peoples all over the world. In addition to autism, Laurence was born with a malformation on his left eye which exacerbates the developmental challenges faced with autism. Despite this, Laurence's mother Fern shares that he is still like any other boy his age.

"He is always full of fun and loves to be outdoors. He has a real passion for Lego and wants to build the kits as independently as possible. He also loves to bake, would happily do so every day and his particular favourite is chocolate brownies,” Fern tells Able Finder.

"},"6":
http://www.giveitlove.com/these-parents-are-here-to-show-the-positive-sides-of-raising-kids-with-autism/6/

This Mom Says The Bad Days Are Why We Need To Raise Awareness

Photo: @fvs_life / Instagram

World Autism Awareness Day is on the first day of April, and it kicks off Autism Awareness Month. Autism supporters all over the world wear blue to advocate for autism awareness. Fern shares this photo of Laurence sporting blue attire in honor of the day but discloses that it was from the previous year.

Fern writes, "[Unfortunately], it was a bad (autism) day for us, lots of worries, tears and meltdowns but this is why we need to share this.. to help raise awareness and understanding of what Autism is and means for us. "

"},"7":
http://www.giveitlove.com/these-parents-are-here-to-show-the-positive-sides-of-raising-kids-with-autism/7/

This Single Mom Didn't Know What To Do

Photo: @andthispotato / Instagram

This is Nicole and her son, Levi. Nicole started her blog And This Potato to foster a community from which to offer and receive support from others who share similar experiences in raising a child with ASD.

Nicole writes on her blog, "When Levi was diagnosed at 2 1/2 with nonverbal autism I felt lost and afraid of what the future might hold. It felt like navigating through unknown territory alone. Autism had never touched my family or friends so I threw myself at the mercy of the All-Knowing Google and Facebook support groups... I found myself in the winter of 2016 as a struggling single mother of a special needs child."

"},"8":
http://www.giveitlove.com/these-parents-are-here-to-show-the-positive-sides-of-raising-kids-with-autism/8/

She Had Misconceptions About Autism

Photo: @andthispotato / Instagram

Nicole is also a single parent, so her journey in raising Levi is certainly not easy. This was another reason she decided to start her blog and communicate with other parents going through the same struggles.

Nicole writes, "[Before] Levi, I had no idea what autism really was. I thought autism was a behavioral disorder. I thought parents used autism as an excuse to not vaccinate their children. Wow-- I was so wrong! I acknowledge I was severely misinformed about autism. I choose to remember what I used to think about autism... so if I get a dirty look or comment from someone because of Levi, I know that they're probably just misinformed like I was."

"},"9":
http://www.giveitlove.com/these-parents-are-here-to-show-the-positive-sides-of-raising-kids-with-autism/9/

Every Little Step Counts

Photo: @andthispotato / Instagram

What may seem like a small step for most people is actually a big leap for someone with autism. Nicole shares that Levi's auditory sensory issues were so bad that attempts to impart 'listening therapy' led to a huge meltdown. Eventually, something amazing happened when Nicole tried new headphones hooked up to a DVD player for Levi.

"I put on Cars and put the headphones on his head, expecting him to just throw them off and be done with them in an instant. It's been 10 minutes and their [sic] still on. This is HUGE! This opens the door to many, many things. I'm so proud," she shared.

"},"10":
http://www.giveitlove.com/these-parents-are-here-to-show-the-positive-sides-of-raising-kids-with-autism/10/

Let Them Be Little

Photo: @andthispotato / Instagram

Nicole and Levi are certainly on this journey together. Because Levi is still pre-kindergarten age Nicole also gets to experience the joy of raising a boy, apart from the challenges they both face because of ASD.

With this photo, she shared, "He's covered in dirt but having a blast. Good days are hard to come by in January and we only have hours before the rain. It's taking me a lot not to stop him. The mother and girl in me is like 'Eww, you're so dirty. Stop!' But he's so happy. Boys and dirt go hand-in-hand. Who am I to stop love?"

The next mother and son also know a little thing or two about progress...

"},"11":
http://www.giveitlove.com/these-parents-are-here-to-show-the-positive-sides-of-raising-kids-with-autism/11/

Different, But Not Less

Photo: @ablefinder / Instagram

Ethan is a boy from Texas who is growing up with autism. His mother is behind his Instagram account where she shares moments from Ethan's autism journey.

His mother tells Able Finder, "I wouldn't have my son any other way. Without all the things that Ethan is judged for, I wouldn't have Ethan at all. He is bright like the sky, LOVES his cars and anything with wheels really. He's caring, loving, happy and so brave. Ethan is Ethan and I will always be there for him. I will always be his advocate, best friend, and loving mom. My son has autism, it makes him different but by no means less."

"},"12":
http://www.giveitlove.com/these-parents-are-here-to-show-the-positive-sides-of-raising-kids-with-autism/12/

Photo: @ethans_adventures / Instagram

On Instagram, Ethan's mother shared a video of him in which he opens a gift, giddily marveling at what's inside. He even says a few sentences. Another mother asked her when Ethan started to talk since her own two-year-old is still nonverbal.

Ethan's mother replied, "[Ethan] started putting two-three words together a few months ago. So very recent. We are still working on it sometimes he doesn’t know how to associate words with meanings. He’ll get there trust me. My son was also that 2,3,4,5 yr old non-verbal.. but look at him now... Progress is amazing."

"},"13":
http://www.giveitlove.com/these-parents-are-here-to-show-the-positive-sides-of-raising-kids-with-autism/13/

There Are Good Days And Bad Days

Photo: @ethans_adventures / Instagram

Ethan's mother uses the account to advocate for autism awareness, sharing that despite the milestones and moments of progress, it isn't always easy. Despite the judgments she and Ethan get from passersby, she keeps her head held high.

"I am an Autism mom, we have good days, we have bad days and days we try to forget. I watch my child struggle on a daily basis. I watch him trying to work with the world around him, it hurts. Ethan's mother says it's okay to admit when things are hard. With this picture, she shared the following:

"I rarely post about the days where autism isn’t good to us. I try to keep it as uplifting and supporting as possible... It’s okay to talk about the ugly days because speaking the raw truth about parenting a special needs child, will bring people more understanding and we would have less judgment..... Parenthood isn’t always sunshine and giggles. Sometimes is depression, meltdowns, tears, and anger. This is for those mamas going through hard times. Kortney writes, "She helps in so many ways with Kaed. Kortney writes, "She has been working with Kaedyn for a year and a half and at one time she was the most disliked person in Kaesyn's world. But the relationship they've built and earned trust make me extremely happy. She knows exactly what he needs when he needs it."

Caylin writes, "To some, drinking from a glass may seem so simple, but when you lack the muscle tone in your mouth area it can make it very difficult... Children with autism spectrum disorders face many challenges navigating life as they grow up, but we shouldn't forget that their parents face many difficulties as well. Parents of autistic children sometimes admit that the challenges of autism can create an overwhelming and often isolating experience, as other people fail to fully understand exactly what they're going through. But many parents have found an outlet through social media, to seek and offer their support while advocating for autism awareness. You're about to meet some amazing families and hear all about their journeys with autism.

http://www.giveitlove.com/quiz-can-you-guess-the-board-game-from-one-image/"};_WF.emit("flexformat_init");

2nd Graders Should Be Able To Pass This QUIZ But Most Adults Can’t!
Depending on your age, the second grade was a long time ago. What seemed like such trivial knowledge now that you’re grown, was probably more useful than you think. For instance, what color do you get when mixing red and blue? The truth is, you might not be able to remember it all and this quiz will put your memory to the test. Most adults can’t pass this quiz so go ahead and try your best. You’ll be surprised when you see what was taught in the second grade. And once you finish, we dare you to see if any of your friends can beat your score.

QUIZ: OMG, How Many Of These Acronyms Do You Know?
From LOL to BRB, acronyms have taken over our culture with a BEG (you know what this means don’t you?). Chatting with friends online or through text messages has become a game of deciphering codes that lost their secrets ages ago. Some organizations are even known by their acronym instead of their real name. Do you have an acumen for acronyms? Click the start button to find out!

Say Hello To Luke
Luke Thill / YouTube

Obsession Turned Reality

Luke Thill / YouTube

Kids can spend hours on the internet. There is so much information out there that will keep you occupied. Thill stumbled upon something on YouTube one day that got his full attention. A tiny house.

"I was just on YouTube looking around and came across a tiny house idea and then that spiraled into looking at almost every YouTube video there is, it felt like," Thill told ABC News. "I got obsessed with them and decided to build my own."

"},"3":
http://www.giveitlove.com/13-year-old-proves-1500-and-a-good-work-ethic-is-all-you-need-to-build-a-home/3/

Parental Ground Rules

Luke Thill / Facebook

Parents are supposed to encourage their children to do great things. Once Thill's parents saw he wanted to build a tiny home, the support was there. But it didn't come without some rules. Afterall, he was aiming to build it in their backyard.

“We said, ‘If you’re that serious we have to set some ground rules,’” Thill's dad Greg told ABC News. “We told him he had to have the financial responsibility of it, raise the money and choose the materials and stay in the budget.”

"},"4":
http://www.giveitlove.com/13-year-old-proves-1500-and-a-good-work-ethic-is-all-you-need-to-build-a-home/4/

All In The Family

Luke Thill / Facebook

Thill started this project in 2016. Ordinarily, this would be a daunting task for a person of any age. In his situation, the help of Thill's family was invaluable. He couldn't have done it on his own.

His father helped with the construction, and his mom chipped in with interior design. Thill's twin brother and sister were also in on the act. Thill would later learn how to bargain.

Bargaining and a Work Ethic Like No Other

Luke Thill / YouTube

Outside of his family's help, Thill also gained assistance through bargaining. He used his resources well and ended up getting the job done efficiently. Thill called upon the people he met in his life that he knew would be of help. But not without returning the favor!

"I have a neighbor who is a professional electrician, so I cleaned his garage out, and he taught me how to wire the house," said Thill. "And in Cub Scouts, I knew a guy who was a carpet layer, and I mowed at his apartment buildings, and he helped me install the carpet."

"},"6":
http://www.giveitlove.com/13-year-old-proves-1500-and-a-good-work-ethic-is-all-you-need-to-build-a-home/6/

Trust The Process

Youtube / Luke Thill

Thill started building his new home in 2016. But according to him, it's not finished yet. The 13-year-old faced some troubles during the process but never gave up. Thill doesn't have an end date, but we know that he will tackle every problem he runs into, even if it extends the "finish" date.

“He’s a very driven kid for his age,” said Luke's dad. “There were times the project got stalled out, and he had to earn more money for the next phase. He wouldn't let it go and kept working at it."

"},"7":
http://www.giveitlove.com/13-year-old-proves-1500-and-a-good-work-ethic-is-all-you-need-to-build-a-home/7/

The Fascination With It All

Luke Thill / YouTube

For someone so young, Thill seems like he already has life figured out. Beyond his obsession with YouTube videos, there were other motives why he wanted to pursue this. And hearing the reasons, it sounds like he's going to be a responsible young man in the future.

Thill said, "I like the minimalism. And I wanted to have a house without a huge mortgage.” It's pretty safe to say that you can count on one hand other 13-year-olds you know that have this type of mindset.

"},"8":
http://www.giveitlove.com/13-year-old-proves-1500-and-a-good-work-ethic-is-all-you-need-to-build-a-home/8/

Cutting Out The Costs

Luke Thill / YouTube

If you're wondering how this tiny home only cost $1,500, we'll tell you. The charming house is assembled with low-cost materials that help minimize the price of building it. Thill was smart in picking what to use for materials.

The tiny house novice used reclaimed materials. For example, there was the leftover siding he got from his grandma. There were also several windows and a front door that he received from his uncle.

"},"9":
http://www.giveitlove.com/13-year-old-proves-1500-and-a-good-work-ethic-is-all-you-need-to-build-a-home/9/

What's It Like In There?

Luke Thill / YouTube

If you think that you can't fit much inside this tiny house- think again. Consider everything you can fit inside an average bedroom and multiply that by two. The home has space for the necessities, plus a little more.

For starters, it has a loft. There's also a kitchen area with a beautiful counter. Some shelves lead to the sitting area. An ottoman is in place of a couch, and there is a TV mounted on the wall. He also installed a flip-down table.

"},"10":
http://www.giveitlove.com/13-year-old-proves-1500-and-a-good-work-ethic-is-all-you-need-to-build-a-home/10/

Simply Inspirational

Luke Thill / YouTube

"I want to show kids it's possible to build at this age," said Thill. But he has done more than that with this tiny house. When you know someone so young is capable of something like this, it opens the door for others. It allows anyone to look at an idea and not be afraid to tackle it.

"Everyone had to have a big house, and now people have changed and realized it's not practical," Thill said to the Des Moines Register. "You can save money, travel the world, and do what you want instead."

"},"11":
http://www.giveitlove.com/13-year-old-proves-1500-and-a-good-work-ethic-is-all-you-need-to-build-a-home/11/

Utilizing The House Wisely

Luke Thill / YouTube

Thill didn't go through all this work just to prove a point. He spent all those hours and $1,500 for a reason. And once again, his purpose for this house has a certain level of maturity to it. Homework gets done in the tiny house.

Thill only sleeps in it a few nights a week, but that's sure to change as he gets older and makes a bigger one. “The main purpose is to be my starter home,” he said. “I’m going to save money and expand.”

"},"12":
http://www.giveitlove.com/13-year-old-proves-1500-and-a-good-work-ethic-is-all-you-need-to-build-a-home/12/

The Attention He Deserves

Luke Thill / Facebook

The principal at Thill's school called him into his office one day, the reason unknown to Thill. “I don’t go there very often,” he said. “I’ve never gone there for anything bad.” Thill must have been curious as to why he was being called up.

It turns out; his principal was friends with someone from the local newspaper. Thill got interviewed, and his tiny house ended up making the front page of the paper. Trouble wasn't waiting for Thill, but recognition was.

"},"13":
http://www.giveitlove.com/13-year-old-proves-1500-and-a-good-work-ethic-is-all-you-need-to-build-a-home/13/

Festival Life

Luke Thill / Facebook

Not only was Thill featured on the front page of the local newspaper but he also runs a YouTube channel that has over 32,000 followers. When you combine those two sources of engagement, it only makes sense that he would be invited to speak at the TinyFest Festival, a gathering dedicated to building tiny homes.

It's also ironic that he had just earned his merit badge for public speaking from Boy Scouts. Thill had some encouraging words for the crowd in attendance that aligned with his inspirational path.

"},"14":
http://www.giveitlove.com/13-year-old-proves-1500-and-a-good-work-ethic-is-all-you-need-to-build-a-home/14/

Strengthening His Bond With Dad

Luke Thill / YouTube

This project was an incredible experience for Thill and his whole family. More specifically, Thill and his father got a chance to grow closer together. Thill completed the bulk of the work, but his dad worked closely with him.

"Me and him spent nights and days building it. He was really busy, but he made sure to spend time with me and coached me through the process of building a house. I'm really grateful for a good dad, mom, and a good family."

"},"15":
http://www.giveitlove.com/13-year-old-proves-1500-and-a-good-work-ethic-is-all-you-need-to-build-a-home/15/

Making A Business

Luke Thill / Facebook

It's clear that this young teen is going places. Building the tiny house was just the tip of the iceberg. Thill has more ideas in that head of his. Branching out to retail was Thill's next move.

He already had thousands of supporters, so it made perfect sense for him to make merchandise. He now has sweatshirts and T-shirts. It was initially just to help him get exposure, but it isn't a bad way to help raise more money.

"},"16":
http://www.giveitlove.com/13-year-old-proves-1500-and-a-good-work-ethic-is-all-you-need-to-build-a-home/16/

How's Living In It?

Luke Thill / YouTube

So is the space entirely livable? Not exactly, but it is manageable. Being equipped with electricity isn't enough. The small fridge would be good for midnight snacks, but that's about it.

The most important factor this house is missing is plumbing! There is no running water. Thiller couldn't get that situated, but it's okay. He was trying to muster up a way to get water in there, but it was too much for him to handle. But the lack of plumbing only inspired him to want to expand.

"},"17":
http://www.giveitlove.com/13-year-old-proves-1500-and-a-good-work-ethic-is-all-you-need-to-build-a-home/17/

Sometimes We Might Make A Mistake Or Two

Luke Thill / Facebook

When humans do something for the first time, it's natural to mess up. Everyone does, and that's okay. It's especially acceptable when you are a 13-year-old building a home for the first time!

Thill had some mistakes in the process that he told his subscribers about in his YouTube videos. He explained how the counter he tried to make was a disaster. He also had planned on using a light fixture in the loft that ended up being too big. This mistake caused people to bump their heads when they came in.

"},"18":
http://www.giveitlove.com/13-year-old-proves-1500-and-a-good-work-ethic-is-all-you-need-to-build-a-home/18/

Call Friends!

Luke Thill / YouTube

This tiny home is ideal for 13-year-olds and their friends. Every day after school, they can go over and not worry about getting in the way of the parents. All young kids need is wifi and a TV.

The only issue with having friends over at Thill's home is the lack of plumbing. Friends who have to use the restroom must walk to the main house and use his parents'.

"},"19":
http://www.giveitlove.com/13-year-old-proves-1500-and-a-good-work-ethic-is-all-you-need-to-build-a-home/19/

The First Night In

Luke Thill / Facebook After putting so much time and hard work into this, you can imagine how excited Thill was to sleep in his new home. Even after installing the necessary insulation, it was still up in the air if the house was habitable.

In the thick of the winter, Thill chose to spend the first night in his tiny house. It was below freezing, but he was up for the challenge. After that night, he was proud to announce that it was so warm upstairs in the loft, he had to open up a window.

"},"20":
http://www.giveitlove.com/13-year-old-proves-1500-and-a-good-work-ethic-is-all-you-need-to-build-a-home/20/

The Next Steps

Luke Thill / YouTube

The first tiny house was a practice run for Thill. He says that he plans on making more efficient tiny houses down the line. An ultimate goal of his is to build one that he can bring along with him when he goes to college.

But before that happens, he is going to make one that is entirely livable. A house that he can live in full-time. The original tiny house is going to be sold to help finance his upcoming projects. The documentation of it will be on his YouTube. Good luck Luke!
