A part of me frustrated that this is gonna be the thing that people argue over during summer break bc people will never see the nuances. Like let’s not forget that there were groups who thought Lewis would just come into Ferrari and immediately take that number one driver role. On top of the fact that Ferrari’s never really done that, it set Lewis up for failure when he was immediately getting podiums. Charles has been with Ferrari for years now. He knows the team, he knows the car, and he knows the system. And he’s just fucking talented. Of course it makes sense that he’s able to succeed where his teammate who’s figuring out a new team after 13 years isn’t. But ultimately Ferrari will have little to impact on Lewis’s legacy within sport. His legacy is not just his 7 wdc titles, but everything he’s done to push this sport towards inclusivity.

And the thing that pisses me off most about people using “fairness” as an excuse for why trans athletes should be banned is that it perpetuates the myth that biologically men are inherently stronger than women. Plus if you really wanted to focus on fairness you would ban the athletes who had parents who could afford private lessons, or children of professional athletes themselves. I can tell you right now those people had way more of an unfair advantage than any trans athlete.
