Fascinated by their natural embraces and seemingly intense, vibrant love, Toulouse-Lautrec quickly contracted a new obsession with painting lesbian-esque themes. Living in a brothel at the time, it was very easy to catch the prostitutes in their most vulnerable and truest forms. These works were not products of any real caring of serious social issues but more of an attempt to become closer with the lesbians in order to better understand their position and passion.
