⚜️ This Foot-Combat Helm, ca. 1510, was the “beste helmett” of Sir Giles Capel — a knight in the retinue of Henry VIII. According to his will, it was to be hung above his tomb, and legend has it he may have worn it during the iconic Field of Cloth of Gold tournament in 1520.

The helmet was removed from the tomb and entered a private collection in 1840. After that, it passed through several private collections in Britain and France before being sold to the Metropolitan Museum in New York in 1904.

⚜️ Перед вами Турнирный шлем сэра Джайлза Кэйпела, одного из придворных Генриха VIII, ок. 1510 года. Шлем относится к типу "большой бацинет" и предназначен для пешего боя. Ранее он висел над могилой сэра Кэйпела, как указано в его завещании: этот его «лучший шлем» и его меч будут там хранится. Возможно, именно в нем он участвовал в легендарном поединке между Англией и Францией в Кале в 1520 г.

Шлем был снят с надгробья и попал в частную коллекцию в 1840 году. После этого наголовье находилось в нескольких частных собраниях в Британии и Франции, пока в 1904 году не было продано в нью-йоркский музей Метрополитен.
