With his tall and strong stature, Luke is often mistaken as Ariel and Billie's big brother when, on the contrary, he is the youngest — and only boy — in the family. He takes after his father and namesake, Jerry Wright, who has taught him everything he needed to know as a man — from corralling cattle, riding horses to the courteous ways a real cowboy ought to be. However, upon his mother's death, his father suffered greatly from the family's significant loss and therefore, had sought help from his nephew, Jackson Taylor, to keep an eye out for Luke as he attended the University of Texas at Austin. All throughout college, Luke lived and learned under Jackson's tutelage. Once he'd graduated, the plan had been to rejoin his father in Nashville. But Jackson's unexpected heart attack had shaken the family, and their plans, leading to both father and son to agree that, with everything Jackson had done for young Luke, it was only right that he joined his cousin in Los Angeles to look after him the way he did him.
