drafts clearinghouse. expect nothing. also sometimes posts that i think will do a little *too* well go here. for the sake of my own pride i will not differentiate between those categories.

Yeah like. Being invasively overfamiliar with strangers online is generally a shitty way to act even if you think they're performing their gender weirdly! And, like with basically all intimate personal sharing, the lines are in fact different if you actually know each other, or are close friends!
There's actually a whole range of possible norms between "egg prime directive" and "if anyone seems like an egg, mock them over it. It's for their own good"

wait does this mean that languages with rolled rs sound really vulgar to native Japanese speakers? are japanese 6th graders snickering and elbowing each other any time they happen to hear Spanish or whatever?
hi max i was watching a movie (tampopo) and i noticed that one guy was rolling his r's in words that don't usually use rolled r's ("ore" for example). do you know why? was he just drunk?
The rolled [r] in Japanese is a sign of vulgarity. What was the conversational context?

According to the linked article It's 99.7% on whether the molecule we are interpreting as evidence of life is present. There is debate in the scientific community as to whether that molecule qualifies as definitive proof of the presence of life-- the universe is very big and it's possible that there are nonliving processes we don't know about that can also create it.
It's still extremely exciting! But it's a bit more complicated than "we are 99.7% certain that there is life on that planet."
We literally just found life on another planet and everybody is just like "and?" Life on earth so wild rn we don't even care 💀💀

Ethel Cain liked wincest in HIGH SCHOOL. When everyone was cringe. Now she writes incest into her lyrics as a metaphor for generational trauma not glorifying it. She’s not proshit she’s just a person who had a cringey fandom phase and for some reason, the ugly proshits latched onto it as proof that it’s ok to like incest. The show itself mocked the gay fanfics ppl made of them. Media literacy hi?
are you mad at me

@cryptotheism do you have any links on hand of ex employees saying this? I don't exactly doubt you but it'd be more comforting if I could see them saying it for myself
ok so obviously the layoffs are not great for the site flourishing but i think its plausible theyre good for the site surviving? the smaller overhead the better, right? assuming its always been a negative on the balance sheet, if its LESS of a negative, wordpress will presumably keep it going a while longer. and like, i mean obviously it would be nice for the website to be nicer but im not sure how obvious it is that more devs would lead to more traffic? it seems like traffic is mostly driven by exogenous cultural factors. they tried the communities thing, presumably it didnt work, and now theyre just gonna try to run it as cheaply as possible

this is apparently the sole subject around which heathcliff is capable of making something recognizable as a joke. it fascinates me.

it reminds me so much of this post every time
pessimistic and miserable or whatever but I wish every grim/venty type piece of art didn't inevitably prompt someone to make a vaguely condescending Happy Ending followup

having hairy armpits as a woman definitely is more taboo but i think the amount of effort that leg shaving takes is a really relevant factor too. I was a "shave pits and not legs" person for many years (armpit hair got so itchy when I let it grow out) but shaving your pits takes like 15 seconds in the shower while legs are a whole fuckin Project. Amount of time and effort women waste on this sort of thing should be a factor we consider.
#I have hairy pits now because i think it's hot lmao#it was itchy for MONTHS even after they were full grown but then it settled down#just takes longer to adjust/for the hair to soften or something than i would have expected
