         she  stutters  rather  quietly for  a  moment , gaze turning doe - eyed  for          a  short - lived  moment  as  the  markings  move  rather  frantically  in           surprise and cluster beneath the t - shirt , unseen for the moment  being.

     ❝ y’know, sometimes things don’t work out – ❞

            her words cut off, and she is reminded of the hum of the never-ending nightlife [ this incessant buzz/buzz/buzz that refuses to leave her mind&ears ] , and she is mesmerized by it . fingers curl up and rest by her mouth , a barely-there touch to bring her back into reality ; a shiver down her spine as the sound of neon signs reduces itself to mere background noise . these hands , those hands , HER HANDS – they brush against her hair [ it’s so soft ; unreal and yet it IS ] .  

            repressed memories of her childhood come up , and she quietly pushes them back [ AWAY , AWAY ;  GO AWAY ] . her eyes open for a brief moment , and roman wonders why that stupid noise still rings in her ears [ perhaps the lack of sleep for the past four days – is she becoming an INSOMNIAC ?  ] she hopes not as she looks at the stranger with a half-lidded gaze, bringing the hot , bitter coffee to her lips.
