My dear trans girls, 

I want to share some ideas how to feel more feminine with you, especially with those of you who would like to feel that way but can’t come out of the closet yet.  

A few words first: Everyone has some image in their head when they hear the word “feminine” but those pictures don’t all look exactly alike. What may make one person feel feminine, may not work for someone else.

Don’t feel forced to try anything that doesn’t feel right (especially if you feel like those would make your dysphoria worse or you would risk outing yourself).

But with those things that feel right and safe, don’t be afraid to play and experiment with them. It’s fully normal to need a while of “trial and error” until you find your very own definition of femininity.

Here are my ideas: 

- buy and use women’s body lotion, deodorant, shower gel… (Here’s a letter about that, including some ideas what to say if someone asks)

- take bubble baths/use bath bombs

- browse websites of fashion magazines 

- watch make up/beauty tutorials on Youtube

-  paint your nails (If color feels too risky, choose clear polish for your fingernails or paint your toenails instead and wear closed shoes),

- use chapstick

- write short stories with a female character (nobody needs to know it’s actually you!)

- buy yourself flowers

- listen to “girly” music and/or girl empowerment songs (you’ll find playlists on youtube, for example)

- wear one piece of feminine clothing or jewellery (maybe something small/hard to notice)

- some trans girls wear/use something pink “ironically”, like a bright pink phone case etc.

- if your parents/classmates/whoever may ask don’t really know all your friends and you can easily make one up, a “Oh, that? Yeah, my friend gave that to me, she wears/owns the same one, she says it represents our friendship” story can explain a lot of different things, for example a necklace

- add a new color to your wardrobe (it doesn’t need to be pink or pastel colors - wine red, purple or light blue for example may also make you feel more feminine and will in most cases not cause questions)

- buy some cute decorations (possibly ”because it’s funny”, like a pillow with a unicorn on it)

Suicide-baiting, cyberharassmemt, cyberstalking, death/rape threats, and hate speech are illegal in all 50 states as well as Australia and the UK.

Some places include school suspension or expels. Some even include jail time for multiple years.

Also, yes. There are methods of catching someone’s IP. Even under a VPN.

Next time you get hit with anon hate?

Casually remind them you can very easily take this to the next level. And they can earn jail time while you lay back in your chair, having saved yourself and everyone else from a violent criminal.

Your online actions have real life consequences.

Make sure they learn that.

Or a “I can handle it.” No. That person will continue to harass others as well. And one of them may not be as strong as you. So do it for them and everyone else.
