Thinking about how my grandma took my mom to Grauman's Chinese theater to see The Jungle Book in 1967 just after they had moved across the country to East LA, and how now 58 years later I'm in a project that is showing at that theater next week. My face — my performance — will be shown at that same exact theater.

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday issued a ban on 25 books, including works by several prominent authors, citing concerns over national security and public order.

The government has mandated the seizure of these books, claiming they spread misleading narratives, endorse terrorism, and encourage secessionism in the Union Territory.

Among the authors whose works have been banned are renowned Islamic scholar Syed Abul A’la Maududi, veteran academic and constitutional expert AG Noorani, acclaimed writer and activist Arundhati Roy, political scientist Sumantra Bose, historians Ayesha Jalal and Sugatha Bose, and Kashmiri academics and writers Hafsa Kanjwal, Ather Zia, and Essar Batool.

Officials stated that the decision was made after a thorough review of the content, which was deemed “objectionable” and “potentially harmful to public peace and national unity.”
